| Wa As-Samā'i Dhāti Al-Burūji | 085.001 By the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs; | وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ |
| Wa Al-Yawmi Al-Maw`ūdi | 085.002 By the promised Day (of Judgment); | وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ |
| Wa Shāhidin Wa Mash/hūdin | 085.003 By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness;- | وَشَاهِد ٍ وَمَشْهُود ٍ |
| Qutila 'Aşĥābu Al-'Ukhdūdi | 085.004 Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire), | قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الأُخْدُودِ |
| An-Nāri Dhāti Al-Waqūdi | 085.005 Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel: | النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ |
| 'Idh Hum `Alayhā Qu`ūdun | 085.006 Behold! they sat over against the (fire), | إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُود ٌ |
| Wa Hum `Alá Mā Yaf`alūna Bil-Mu'uminīna Shuhūdun | 085.007 And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers. | وَهُمْ عَلَى مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُود ٌ |
| Wa Mā Naqamū Minhum 'Illā 'An Yu'uminū Bil-Lahi Al-`Azīzi Al-Ĥamīdi | 085.008 And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in God, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!- | وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلاَّ أَنْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ |
| Al-Ladhī Lahu Mulku As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa ۚ Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Shahīdun | 085.009 Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And God is Witness to all things. | الَّذِي لَه ُُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء ٍ شَهِيد ٌ |
| 'Inna Al-Ladhīna Fatanū Al-Mu'uminīna Wa Al-Mu'umināti Thumma Lam Yatūbū Falahum `Adhābu Jahannama Wa Lahum `Adhābu Al-Ĥarīqi | 085.010 Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire. | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ |
| 'Inna Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Lahum Jannātun Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru ۚ Dhālika Al-Fawzu Al-Kabīru | 085.011 For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires), | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّات ٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ ۚ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ |
| 'Inna Baţsha Rabbika Lashadīdun | 085.012 Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord. | إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيد ٌ |
| 'Innahu Huwa Yubdi'u Wa Yu`īdu | 085.013 It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life). | إِنَّه ُُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ |
| Wa Huwa Al-Ghafūru Al-Wadūdu | 085.014 And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness, | وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ |
| Dhū Al-`Arshi Al-Majīdu | 085.015 Lord of the Throne of Glory, | ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ |
| Fa``ālun Limā Yurīdu | 085.016 Doer (without let) of all that He intends. | فَعَّال ٌ لِمَا يُرِيدُ |
| Hal 'Atāka Ĥadīthu Al-Junūdi | 085.017 Has the story reached thee, of the forces- | هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ |
| Fir`awna Wa Thamūda | 085.018 Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? | فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ |
| Bali Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fī Takdhībin | 085.019 And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)! | بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيب ٍ |
| Wa Allāhu Min Warā'ihim Muĥīţun | 085.020 But God doth encompass them from behind! | وَاللَّهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ مُحِيط ٌ |
| Bal Huwa Qur'ānun Majīdun | 085.021 Day, this is a Glorious Qur'an, | بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآن ٌ مَجِيد ٌ |
| Fī Lawĥin Maĥfūžin | 085.022 (Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved! | فِي لَوْح ٍ مَحْفُوظ ٍ |
