| THESE 30 VERY early Meccan verses were revealed after Night 92 and before Morning Bright! 93. Its title of 'Daybreak' or Al-Fajr should be compared with that of Al-Falaq or 'Dawn' 113 (and also with the last line in Chapter 97). This chapter ends with a short but moving passage on 'The Tranquil Soul" which finally has found rest. In the name of God, the Mercy-giving, the Merciful ! | ||
| Wa Al-Fajri | 089-001* By the Daybreak | وَالْفَجْرِ |
| Wa Layālin `Ashrin | 089-002* and ten nights | وَلَيَالٍ عَشْر ٍ |
| Wa Ash-Shaf`i Wa Al-Watri | 089-003* and the even and the odd, | وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ |
| Wa Al-Layli 'Idhā Yasri | 089-004* and night as it journeys on, | وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ |
| Hal Fī Dhālika Qasamun Lidhī Ĥijrin | 089-005* does that not contain an oath for someone who is mindful? | هَلْ فِي ذَلِكَ قَسَم ٌ لِذِي حِجْر ٍ |
| 'Alam Tara Kayfa Fa`ala Rabbuka Bi`ādin | 089-006* Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad, | أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَاد ٍ |
| 'Irama Dhāti Al-`Imādi | 089-007* [the people of] Iram, possessing columns | إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ |
| Allatī Lam Yukhlaq Mithluhā Fī Al-Bilādi | 089-008* whose like had never been created in the land? | الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلاَدِ |
| Wa Thamūda Al-Ladhīna Jābū Aş-Şakhra Bil-Wādi | 089-009* And Thamud who carved rock out of the valley; | وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ |
| Wa Fir`awna Dhī Al-'Awtādi | 089-010* and Pharaoh wielding kingpins | وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الأَوْتَادِ |
| Al-Ladhīna Ţaghaw Fī Al-Bilādi | 089-011* who were (all) so arrogant in the land | الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلاَدِ |
| Fa'aktharū Fīhā Al-Fasāda | 089-012* and increased corruption there? | فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ |
| Faşabba `Alayhim Rabbuka Sawţa `Adhābin | 089-013* Your Lord unleashed the scourge of torment on them. | فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ |
| 'Inna Rabbaka Labiālmirşādi | 089-014* Your Lord is ever on the lookout! | إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ |
| Fa'ammā Al-'Insānu 'Idhā Mā Abtalāhu Rabbuhu Fa'akramahu Wa Na``amahu Fayaqūlu Rabbī 'Akramani | 089-015* Yet everyman says, whenever his Lord tests him by honoring and favoring him: "My Lord has honored me!"; | فَأَمَّا الإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلاَه ُ رَبُّه ُ فَأَكْرَمَه ُ وَنَعَّمَه ُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ |
| Wa 'Ammā 'Idhā Mā Abtalāhu Faqadara `Alayhi Rizqahu Fayaqūlu Rabbī 'Ahānani | 089-016* while whenever He tests him by rationing His sustenance for him, he says: "My Lord has disgraced me." Charity | وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلاَه ُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَه ُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ |
| Kallā ۖ Bal Lā Tukrimūna Al-Yatīma | 089-017* Rather you are not generous with the orphan | كَلاَّ ۖ بَل لاَ تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ |
| Wa Lā Taĥāđđūna `Alá Ţa`āmi Al-Miskīni | 089-018* nor do you promote feeding the needy, | وَلاَ تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ |
| Wa Ta'kulūna At-Turātha 'Aklāan Lammāan | 089-019* and greedily use up anything you inherit. | وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلا ً لَمّا ً |
| Wa Tuĥibbūna Al-Māla Ĥubbāan Jammāan | 089-020* You love money till it's brimming over! | وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبّا ً جَمّا ً |
| Kallā 'Idhā Dukkati Al-'Arđu Dakkāan Dakkāan | 089-021* Indeed when the earth has been completely flattened out | كَلاَّ إِذَا دُكَّتِ الأَرْضُ دَكّا ً دَكّا ً |
| Wa Jā'a Rabbuka Wa Al-Malaku Şaffāan Şaffāan | 089-022* and your Lord comes with the angels, row upon row, | وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفّا ً صَفّا ً |
| Wa Jī'a Yawma'idhin Bijahannama ۚ Yawma'idhin Yatadhakkaru Al-'Insānu Wa 'Anná Lahu Adh-Dhikrá | 089-023* and brings up Hell on that day; on that day everyman will remember, as if remembrance even matters to him! | وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّى لَهُ الذِّكْرَى |
| Yaqūlu Yā Laytanī Qaddamtu Liĥayātī | 089-024* He will say: "It's too bad for me! What did I send on ahead during my lifetime?" | يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي |
| Fayawma'idhin Lā Yu`adhdhibu `Adhābahu 'Aĥadun | 089-025* On that day, no one will torment [anyone] with torment like His, | فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاَ يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ~ُ أَحَد ٌ |
| Wa Lā Yūthiqu Wathāqahu 'Aĥadun | 089-026* and no one will hold to any agreement as he will hold to His! The Tranquil Soul | وَلاَ يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ~ُ أَحَد ٌ |
| Yā 'Ayyatuhā An-Nafsu Al-Muţma'innahu | 089-027* O Tranquil soul, | يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ |
| Arji`ī 'Ilá Rabbiki Rāđiyatan Marđīyahan | 089-028* return to your Lord well pleased and pleasing [Him]! | ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَة ً مَرْضِيَّة ً |
| Fādkhulī Fī `Ibādī | 089-029* Enter among My servants, | فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي |
| Wa Adkhulī Jannatī | 089-030* and. enter My garden. | وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي |
