070-001* A skeptic was asking about torment that is bound to happen | سَأَلَ سَائِل ٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِع ٍ | Lilkāfiryna Laysa Lahu Dāfi`un | 070-002* to disbelievers; there will be no defence against it | لِلْكَافِرينَ لَيْسَ لَه ُ دَافِع ٌ |
Mina Al-Lahi Dhī Al-Ma`āriji | 070-003* [since it comes] from God Who owns the staircases leading upward. | مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ |
Ta`ruju Al-Malā'ikatu Wa Ar-Rūĥu 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu Khamsīna 'Alfa Sanahin | 070-004* The angels and the Spirit will climb up to Him on a day whose range is fifty thousand years | تَعْرُجُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْم ٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُه ُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَة ٍ |
Fāşbir Şabrāan Jamīlāan | 070-005* So act patient with a handsome patience! | فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرا ً جَمِيلا ً |
'Innahum Yarawnahu Ba`īdāan | 070-006* They consider it is far away | إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَه ُ بَعِيدا ً |
Wa Narāhu Qarībāan | 070-007* while We see it as nearby | وَنَرَاه ُ قَرِيبا ً |
Yawma Takūnu As-Samā'u Kālmuhli | 070-008* on a day when the sky will be like molten brass | يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ |
Wa Takūnu Al-Jibālu Kāl`ihni | 070-009* and the mountains like tufts of yarn. | وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ |
Wa Lā Yas'alu Ĥamīmun Ĥamīmāan | 070-010* No close friend will question any [other] friend; | وَلاَ يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيما ً |
Yubaşşarūnahum ۚ Yawaddu Al-Mujrimu Law Yaftadī Min `Adhābi Yawmi'idhin Bibanīhi | 070-011* they will merely give each other a knowing look. A criminal might like to ransom himself from that day's torment through his children, | يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ |
Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa 'Akhīhi | 070-012* his wife, a brother of his, | وَصَاحِبَتِه ِِ وَأَخِيهِ |
Wa Faşīlatihi Allatī Tu'uwyhi | 070-013* his family circle which has sheltered him, | وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْويهِ |
Wa Man Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Thumma Yunjīhi | 070-014* and everyone who is on earth if [such action] might then save him. | وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعا ً ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ |
Kallā ۖ 'Innahā Lažá | 070-015* Of course not; it would flare up | كَلاَّ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَى |
Nazzā`atan Lilshshawá | 070-016* tugging at his scalp, | نَزَّاعَة ً لِلشَّوَى |
Tad`ū Man 'Adbara Wa Tawallá | 070-017* claiming anyone who tries to escape and turns away, | تَدْعُوا مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّى |
Wa Jama`a Fa'aw`á | 070-018* through saving (things) up and hoarding (them). Man's Character | وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَى |
'Inna Al-'Insāna Khuliqa Halū`āan | 070-019* Man has been created restless, | إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعا ً |
'Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Jazū`āan | 070-020* so he panics whenever any evil touches him, | إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعا ً |
Wa 'Idhā Massahu Al-Khayru Manū`āan | 070-021* and withdraws when some good touches him; | وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعا ً |
'Illā Al-Muşallīna | 070-022* except for the prayerful | إِلاَّ الْمُصَلِّينَ |
Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Dā'imūna | 070-023* who are constant at their prayers | الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī 'Amwālihim Ĥaqqun Ma`lūmun | 070-024* and whose wealth comprises an acknowledged responsibility | وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُوم ٌ |
Lilssā'ili Wa Al-Maĥrūmi | 070-025* towards the beggar and the destitute; Moral's; Conduct | لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuşaddiqūna Biyawmi Ad-Dīni | 070-026* and the ones who accept the Day for Repayment, | وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Min `Adhābi Rabbihim Mushfiqūna | 070-027* and those who are apprehensive about their Lord's torment- | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ |
'Inna `Adhāba Rabbihim Ghayru Ma'mūnin | 070-028* (their Lord's torment is nothing to feel too safe from!)- | إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُون ٍ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna | 070-029* and the ones who preserve their chastity, | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ |
'Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'Aw Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna | 070-030* except with their own spouses or those living under their control; with such they are blameless. | إِلاَّ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ |
Famani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna | 070-031* Those who desire [to go] beyond that, will be going too far___ | فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ فَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna | 070-032* and the ones who preserve their trusts and oaths, | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bishahādātihim Qā'imūna | 070-033* and the ones who stand by their testimony, | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Yuĥāfižūna | 070-034* and the ones who attend to their prayer- | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ |
'Ūlā'ika Fī Jannātin Mukramūna | 070-035* those will be honored in gardens. The Fate of Disbelievers (ii) | أُوْلَائِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُكْرَمُونَ |
Famāli Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Qibalaka Muhţi`īna | 070-036* Yet what is wrong with those who disbelieve, that they should try to dash on ahead of you | فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ |
`Ani Al-Yamīni Wa `Ani Ash-Shimāli `Izīna | 070-037* in batches to the right and on the left? | عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ |
'Ayaţma`u Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yudkhala Jannata Na`īmin | 070-038* Does every man among them aspire to enter the Garden of Bliss? | أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيم ٍ |
Kallā ۖ 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Mimmā Ya`lamūna | 070-039* Of course not! We created them out of something they well know. | كَلاَّ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ |
Falā 'Uqsimu Birabbi Al-Mashāriqi Wa Al-Maghāribi 'Innā Laqādirūna | 070-040* And I do swear by the Lord of the Eastern places and the Western places that We are Able | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ |
`Alá 'An Nubaddila Khayrāan Minhum Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna | 070-041* to replace them with someone better than they are. We shall never be overruled! | عَلَى أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرا ً مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ |
Fadharhum Yakhūđū Wa Yal`abū Ĥattá Yulāqū Yawmahumu Al-Ladhī Yū`adūna | 070-042* Leave them speculating and playing around until they face their day which they have been promised, | فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّى يُلاَقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ |
Yawma Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajdāthi Sirā`āan Ka'annahum 'Ilá Nuşubin Yūfiđūna | 070-043* the day when they will hasten forth from their graves as if they were rushing towards some objective, | يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعا ً كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَى نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ |
Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun ۚ Dhālika Al-Yawmu Al-Ladhī Kānū Yū`adūna | 070-044* their eyesight cast down, disgrace overshadowing them on that day which they have been threatened with! | خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ |
