THIS CHAPTER containing 12 more verses from Madina was revealed after The [Inner] Apartments 49 and before Haggling 64. It forms the last of twelve Madinese chapters that are found in this portion of the Quran. The subject matter concerns the Prophet's own family life and disputes with his wives Hafsa and Aisha over Mary the Egyptian (i), the mother of his shortlived son Ibrahim or Abraham. The light given to believers is pictured in section ii; and then a parable on both "Bad and Good Wives", which includes a final statement on Mary, Jesus' saintly mother. In the name of God, the Mercy-giving, the Merciful! Handling Impossible Oaths (i)

You seek to please your wives while God is Forgiving, Merciful.

He let some of it be known, and overlooked part [of it]. However when he informed her about it, she said: "Who told you about this?", he said: "The Aware, the Informed One told me so."

Perhaps your Lord will remit your evil deeds for you and show you into gardens through which rivers flow, on a day when God will not let the Prophet be humiliated. Those who believe will stand alongside him, their light streaming on ahead of them and to their right. They will say: "Our Lord, perfect our light for us, and forgive us!
