019-001* K.H.Y.E.S. كَا ف-هَا-يَا-عَين -صَ اد Dh ikru Ra ĥmati Ra b bika `Ab dahu Zakar īyā 019-002* [This is] a Reminder of your Lord's mercy towards his servant Zachariah ذِكْرُ رَ حْمَةِ رَ بِّكَ عَب ْدَه ُ زَكَر ِيَّا 'Idh Nād á Ra b bahu Nidā 'an Kh afīyāan 019-003* when he appealed to his Lord with a suppressed cry. إِذْ نَادَى رَ بَّه ُ نِدَا ءً خَ فِيّا ً Q ā la Ra b bi 'Inn ī Wahana A l-`Ažmu Minn ī Wa A sh ta`ala A r-Ra 'su Sh aybāan Wa Lam 'Akun Bidu`ā 'ika Ra b bi Sh aq īyāan 019-004* He said: "My Lord, my bones are tottering for me and my head is glistening with white hair, while I have never been grumbling in my appeal to You, my Lord! ق َا لَ رَ بِّ إِنّ ِي وَهَنَ ا لْعَظْ مُ مِنّ ِي وَا شْتَعَلَ ا ل رَّأْسُ شَيْبا ً وَلَمْ أَكُن ْ بِدُعَا ئِكَ رَ بِّ شَقِ يّا ً Wa 'Inn ī Kh iftu A l-Mawāliya Min Warā 'ī Wa Kānati A m ra 'atī `Āq irā an Fahab Lī Min Ladun ka Walīyāan 019-005* Yet I fear for my heirs after me from Your presence وَإِنّ ِي خِ فْتُ ا لْمَوَالِيَ مِن ْ وَرَا ئِ ي وَكَانَتِ ا مْرَ أَتِي عَاقِ را ً فَهَب ْ لِي مِن ْ لَدُ ن ْكَ وَلِيّا ً Yar ith unī Wa Yar ith u Min 'Ā li Ya`q ū ba ۖ Wa A j `alhu Ra b bi Ra đīyāan 019-006* who may inherit from me, and inherit from Jacob's house. Make him someone we can approve of, my Lord!" يَر ِثُنِي وَيَر ِثُ مِن ْ آلِ يَعْق ُو بَ ۖ وَا ج ْعَلْهُ رَ بِّ رَ ضِ يّا ً Yā Zakar īyā 'Inn ā Nubash sh iru ka Bigh ulā min A smuhu Yaĥyá Lam Naj `al Lahu Min Q ab lu Samīyāan 019-007* "Zachariah, We bring you news about a boy whose name will be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." يَازَكَر ِيَّا إِنّ َا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُ لاَم ٍ ا سْمُه ُ يَحْيَى لَمْ نَج ْعَل ْ لَه ُ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلُ سَمِيّا ً Q ā la Ra b bi 'Ann á Yakū nu Lī Gh ulā mun Wa Kānat A m ra 'atī `Āq irā an Wa Q ad Balagh tu Mina A l-Kibar i `Itīyāan 019-008* He said: "My Lord, how will I have a boy while my wife is barren and I have reached such extreme old age?" ق َا لَ رَ بِّ أَنّ َى يَكُو نُ لِي غُ لاَمٌ وَكَانَتْ ا مْرَ أَتِي عَاقِ را ً وَقَ د ْ بَلَغْ تُ مِنَ ا لْكِبَر ِ عِتِيّا ً Q ā la Kadh ālika Q ā la Ra b buka Huwa `Alayya Hayyinun Wa Q ad Kh alaq tuka Min Q ab lu Wa Lam Taku Sh ay'ā an 019-009* He said: "Just as your Lord has said: 'It is a trifling thing for me [to do]. I created you before while you were still nothing!"' ق َا لَ كَذَلِكَ ق َا لَ رَ بُّكَ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَقَ د ْ خَ لَق ْتُكَ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلُ وَلَمْ تَكُ شَيْئا ً Q ā la Ra b bi A j `al Lī 'Ā yatan ۚ Q ā la 'Ā yatuka 'Allā Tukallima A n -Nā sa Th alāth a Layā lin Sawīyāan 019-010* He said: "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said: "Your sign will be that you will not speak to any people for three nights in a row." ق َا لَ رَ بِّ ا ج ْعَل لِي آيَة ً ۚ ق َا لَ آيَتُكَ أَلاَّ تُكَلِّمَ ا ل نّ َا سَ ثَلاَثَ لَيَا لٍ سَوِيّا ً Fakh ara ja `Alá Q awmihi Mina A l-Miĥrā bi Fa'awĥá 'Ilayhim 'An Sab biĥū Bukra tan Wa `Ash īyāan 019-011* He came forth to his folk from the sanctuary and revealed to them how they should glorify [God] both morning and evening. فَخَ رَ جَ عَلَى قَ وْمِه ِ ِ مِنَ ا لْمِحْرَا بِ فَأَوْحَى إِلَيْهِمْ أَن ْ سَبِّحُوا بُكْرَ ة ً وَعَشِيّا ً Yā Yaĥyá Kh udh i A l-Kitā ba Biq ūwatin ۖ Wa 'Ā taynā hu A l-Ĥukma Ş abīyāan 019-012* "John, hold firmly to the Book." We gave him discretion as a young boy يَايَحْيَى خُ ذِ ا لْكِتَا بَ بِقُ وَّةٍ وَآتَيْنَا هُ ۖ ا لْحُكْمَ صَ بِيّا ً Wa Ĥanānāan Min Ladunn ā Wa Zakāatan ۖ Wa Kā na Taq īyāan 019-013* plus compassion from Our presence and innocence. He was conscientious وَحَنَانا ً مِن ْ لَدُنّ َا وَزَكَا ة ً ۖ وَكَا نَ تَقِ يّا ً Wa Barrā an Biwālidayhi Wa Lam Yakun Jab bārā an `Aş īyāan 019-014* and considerate towards his parents, and was not demanding, rebellious. وَبَرّا ً بِوَالِدَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَكُن ْ جَبَّارا ً عَصِ يّا ً Wa Salā mun `Alayhi Yawma Wulida Wa Yawma Yamū tu Wa Yawma Yub `ath u Ĥayyāan 019-015* Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he is raised to life again! Mary (II) وَسَلاَمٌ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوْمَ يَمُو تُ وَيَوْمَ يُب ْعَثُ حَيّا ً Wa A dh kur Fī A l-Kitā bi Mary ama 'Idh A n tabadh at Min 'Ahlihā Makānāan Sh arq īyāan 019-016* Mention in the Book how Mary withdrew from her people to an Eastem place. وَا ذْكُرْ فِي ا لْكِتَا بِ مَرْيَمَ إِذْ ا ن تَبَذَتْ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا مَكَانا ً شَرْقِ يّا ً Fā ttakh adh at Min Dūnihim Ĥijābāan Fa'arsalnā 'Ilayhā Rūĥanā Fatamath th ala Lahā Bash arā an Sawīyāan 019-017* She chose to be secluded from them. We sent her Our spirit, who presented himself to her as a full-grown human being. فَا تَّخَ ذَتْ مِن ْ دُونِهِمْ حِجَابا ً فَأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهَا رُوحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرا ً سَوِيّا ً Q ālat 'Inn ī 'A`ūdh u Bir -Ra ĥmani Min ka 'In Kun ta Taq īyāan 019-018* She said: "I take refuge with the Mercy-giving from you, unless you are someone who does his duty." قَ الَتْ إِنّ ِي أَعُو ذُ بِا ل رَّحْمَنِ مِن ْكَ إِن ْ كُن تَ تَقِ يّا ً Q ā la 'Inn amā 'Anā Ra sū lu Ra b biki Li'haba Laki Gh ulāmāan Zakīyāan 019-019* He said: 'I am only your Lord's messenger to bestow a clean-living boy on you," ق َا لَ إِنّ َمَا أَنَا رَ سُو لُ رَ بِّكِ لِأهَبَ لَكِ غُ لاَما ً زَكِيّا ً Q ālat 'Ann á Yakū nu Lī Gh ulā mun Wa Lam Yam sasnī Bash aru n Wa Lam 'Aku Bagh īyāan 019-020* She said: "How shall I have a boy when no human being has ever touched me, nor am I a loose woman?" قَ الَتْ أَنّ َى يَكُو نُ لِي غُ لاَمٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِي بَشَرٌ وَلَمْ أَكُ بَغِ يّا ً Q ā la Kadh āliki Q ā la Ra b buki Huwa `Alayya Hayyinun ۖ Wa Linaj `alahu 'Ā yatan Lilnn ā si Wa Ra ĥmatan Minn ā ۚ Wa Kā na 'Am rā an Maq đīyāan 019-021* He said: "Thus your Lord has said: "It is a simple matter for Me [to do]. We will grant him as a sign for mankind and a mercy from Ourself." It is a matter that has been decided." ق َا لَ كَذَلِكِ ق َا لَ رَ بُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ ۖ وَلِنَج ْعَلَهُ آيَة ً لِلنّ َا سِ وَرَ حْمَة ً مِنّ َا ۚ وَكَا نَ أَمْرا ً مَق ْضِ يّا ً Faĥamalat/hu Fān tabadh at Bihi Makānāan Q aş īyāan 019-022* So she conceived him, and withdrew to a remote place to have him. فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَا ن تَبَذَتْ بِه ِ ِ مَكَانا ً قَ صِ يّا ً Fa'ajā 'ahā A l-Makh ā đu 'Ilá Jidh `i A n -Nakh lati Q ālat Yā Laytanī Mittu Q ab la Hādh ā Wa Kun tu Nasyāan Man sīyāan 019-023* Labor pains came over her by the trunk of a datepalm. She said: "If only I had died before this, and been forgotten, overlooked!" فَأَجَا ءَهَا ا لْمَخ َا ضُ إِلَى جِذْعِ ا ل نّ َخْ لَةِ قَ الَتْ يَال َيْتَنِي مِتُّ قَ ب ْلَ هَذَا وَكُن تُ نَسْيا ً مَن ْسِيّا ً Fanādāhā Min Taĥtihā 'Allā Taĥzanī Q ad Ja`ala Ra b buki Taĥtaki Sar īyāan 019-024* Someone called out to her from below where she was: "Dont feel so sad! Your Lord has placed a brook at your feet. فَنَادَاهَا مِن ْ تَحْتِهَا أَلاَّ تَحْزَنِي قَ د ْ جَعَلَ رَ بُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَر ِيّا ً Wa Huzzī 'Ilayki Bijidh `i A n -Nakh lati Tusāq iţ `Alayki Ru ţ abāan Janīyāan 019-025* Shake the trunk of the datepalm towards you so it will drop some fresh dates on you. وَهُزِّي إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ ا ل نّ َخْ لَةِ تُسَاقِ ط ْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَ با ً جَنِيّا ً Fakulī Wa A sh ra bī Wa Q arr ī `Aynāan ۖ Fa'imm ā Tara ynn a Mina A l-Bash ar i 'Aĥadāan Faq ūlī 'Inn ī Nadh artu Lilrra ĥmani Ş awmāan Falan 'Ukallima A l-Yawma 'In sīyāan 019-026* Eat and drink, and refresh yourself. Should you see even a single human being, then say: "I have vowed to keep a fast to the Mercy-giving whereby I'll never speak to any person today!"' فَكُلِي وَا شْرَ بِي وَقَ رِّي عَيْنا ً ۖ فَإِمّ َا تَرَ يْنّ َ مِنَ ا لْبَشَر ِ أَحَدا ً فَقُ ولِي إِنّ ِي نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ صَ وْما ً فَلَنْ أُكَلِّمَ ا لْيَوْمَ إِن سِيّا ً Fa'atat Bihi Q awmahā Taĥmiluhu ۖ Q ālū Yā Mary amu Laq ad Ji'ti Sh ay'ā an Far īyāan 019-027* She carried him back to her family. They said: " Mary , you have brought something hard to believe! فَأَتَتْ بِه ِ ِ قَ وْمَهَا تَحْمِلُه ُ ۖ قَ الُوا يَامَرْيَمُ لَقَ د ْ جِئْتِ شَيْئا ً فَر ِيّا ً Yā 'Ukh ta Hārū na Mā Kā na 'Abū ki A m ra 'a Saw'in Wa Mā Kānat 'Umm uki Bagh īyāan 019-028* Kinswoman of Aaron, your father was no evil man, nor was your mother a loose woman." يَا أُخْ تَ هَارُو نَ مَا كَا نَ أَبُو كِ ا مْرَ أَ سَوْءٍ وَمَا كَا نَتْ أُمّ ُكِ بَغِ يّا ً Fa'ash āra t 'Ilayhi ۖ Q ālū Kayfa Nukallimu Man Kā na Fī A l-Mahdi Ş abīyāan 019-029* She pointed to him. They said: "How shall we talk to someone who is a child in the cradle?" Jesus Speech As a Child فَأَشَارَ تْ إِلَيْهِ ۖ قَ الُوا كَيْفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَن ْ كَا نَ فِي ا لْمَهْدِ صَ بِيّا ً Q ā la 'Inn ī `Ab du A l-Lahi 'Ā tāniya A l-Kitā ba Wa Ja`alanī Nabīyāan 019-030* He said: "I am God's servant. He has given me the Book and made me a prophet. ق َا لَ إِنّ ِي عَب ْدُ ا ل لَّهِ آتَانِيَ ا لْكِتَا بَ وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيّا ً Wa Ja`alanī Mubāra kāan 'Ayna Mā Kun tu Wa 'Awş ānī Biş -Ş alāati Wa A z-Zakāati Mā Dum tu Ĥayyāan 019-031* He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and commissioned me to pray and [pay] the welfare tax so long as I live; وَجَعَلَنِي مُبَارَ كا ً أَيْنَ مَا كُن تُ وَأَوْصَ انِي بِا ل صّ َلاَةِ وَا ل زَّكَا ةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيّا ً Wa Barrā an Biwālidatī Wa Lam Yaj `alnī Jab bārā an Sh aq īyāan 019-032* and [to act] considerate towards my mother. He has not made me domineering, hard to get along with. وَبَرّا ً بِوَالِدَتِي وَلَمْ يَج ْعَلْنِي جَبَّارا ً شَقِ يّا ً Wa A s-Salā mu `Alayya Yawma Wulid tu Wa Yawma 'Amū tu Wa Yawma 'Ub `ath u Ĥayyāan 019-033* Peace be on the day I was born, and the day I shall die and the day I am raised to life again!" وَا لسَّلاَمُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِد ْتُ وَيَوْمَ أَمُو تُ وَيَوْمَ أُب ْعَثُ حَيّا ً Dh ālika `Īsá A b nu Mary ama ۚ Q awla A l-Ĥaq q i A l-Ladh ī Fī hi Yam tarū na 019-034* Such was Jesus, the son of Mary ; [it is] a true statement which they are still puzzling over. ذَلِكَ عِيسَى ا ب ْنُ مَرْيَمَ ۚ قَ وْلَ ا لْحَقّ ِ ا لَّذِي فِي ه ِ ِ يَمْتَرُو نَ Mā Kā na Lillahi 'An Yattakh idh a Min Waladin ۖ Sub ĥānahu ۚ 'Idh ā Q ađá 'Am rā an Fa'inn amā Yaq ū lu Lahu Kun Fayakū nu 019-035* It is not God's role to adopt a son. Glory be to Him! Whenever He determines upon some matter, He merely tells it: "Be!", and it is. مَا كَا نَ لِلَّهِ أَن ْ يَتَّخِ ذَ مِن ْ وَلَدٍ ۖ سُب ْحَانَهُ~ ُ ۚ إِذَا قَ ضَ ى أَمْرا ً فَإِنّ َمَا يَق ُو لُ لَه ُ كُن ْ فَيَكُو نُ Wa 'Inn a A l-Laha Ra b bī Wa Ra b bukum Fā`budū hu ۚ Hādh ā Ş irā ţ un Mustaq ī mun 019-036* God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him [Alone]. This is a Straight Road [to follow]. وَإِنّ َ ا ل لَّهَ رَ بِّي وَرَ بُّكُمْ فَا عْبُدُو ه ُ ۚ هَذَا صِ رَا ط ٌ مُسْتَق ِي مٌ Fākh talafa A l-'Aĥzā bu Min Baynihim ۖ Fawaylun Lilladh ī na Kafarū Min Mash /hadi Yawmin `Ažī min 019-037* Factions have differed among themselves, yet how awful will it be for those who disbelieve when it comes to the spectacle on such a dreadful day! فَا خْ تَلَفَ ا لأَحْزَا بُ مِن ْ بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ فَوَيْل ٌ لِلَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا مِن ْ مَشْهَدِ يَوْمٍ عَظ ِي مٍ 'Asmi` Bihim Wa 'Ab ş ir Yawma Ya'tūnanā ۖ Lakini A ž-Ž ālimū na A l-Yawma Fī Đ alā lin Mubī nin 019-038* Listen to them and watch for the day when they will come to Us; though wrongdoers are in obvious error even today. أَسْمِعْ بِهِمْ وَأَب ْصِ رْ يَوْمَ يَأْتُونَنَا ۖ لَكِنِ ا ل ظّ َالِمُو نَ ا لْيَوْمَ فِي ضَ لاَلٍ مُبِي نٍ Wa 'An dh ir hum Yawma A l-Ĥasra ti 'Idh Q uđiya A l-'Am ru Wa Hum Fī Gh aflatin Wa Hum Lā Yu'uminū na 019-039* Warn them of the Day of Regret when the matter will be decided; they act so heedless and still do not believe. وَأَن ذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ ا لْحَسْرَ ةِ إِذْ قُ ضِ يَ ا لأَمْرُ وَهُمْ فِي غَ فْلَةٍ وَهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُو نَ 'Inn ā Naĥnu Nar ith u A l-'Arđa Wa Man `Alayhā Wa 'Ilaynā Yurja`ū na 019-040* It is We Who will inherit the earth plus anyone on it; to Us shall they return! Abraham (III) إِنّ َا نَحْنُ نَر ِثُ ا لأَرْضَ وَمَنْ عَلَيْهَا وَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُو نَ Wa A dh kur Fī A l-Kitā bi 'Ib rā hī ma ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na Ş id dīq āan Nabīyāan 019-041* Mention Abraham in the Book. He was a truthful prophet وَا ذْكُرْ فِي ا لْكِتَا بِ إِب ْرَ اهِي مَ ۚ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ صِ دِّيق ا ً نَبِيّا ً 'Idh Q ā la Li'abī hi Yā 'Abati Lima Ta`budu Mā Lā Yasma`u Wa Lā Yub ş iru Wa Lā Yugh nī `An ka Sh ay'ā an 019-042* when he told his father: "My father, why do you worship something that neither hears nor perceives [anything], and does not benefit you in anyway"? إِذْ ق َا لَ لِأَبِي ه ِ ِ يَا أَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لاَ يَسْمَعُ وَلاَ يُب ْصِ ر ُ وَلاَ يُغْ نِي عَن ْكَ شَيْئا ً Yā 'Abati 'Inn ī Q ad Jā 'anī Mina A l-`Ilmi Mā Lam Ya'tika Fa A ttabi`nī 'Ahdika Ş irā ţ āan Sawīyāan 019-043* My father, I have been given some knowledge which has not come to you, so follow me: I'll guide you along a Level Road. يَا أَبَتِ إِنّ ِي قَ د ْ جَا ءَنِي مِنَ ا لْعِلْمِ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِكَ فَا تَّبِعْنِي أَهْدِكَ صِ رَ اط ا ً سَوِيّا ً Yā 'Abati Lā Ta`budi A sh -Sh ayţ ā na ۖ 'Inn a A sh -Sh ayţ ā na Kā na Lilrra ĥmani `Aş īyāan 019-044* My father, do not serve Satan! Satan was defiant towards the Mercygiving. يَا أَبَتِ لاَ تَعْبُدِ ا ل شَّيْط َا نَ إِنّ َ ۖ ا ل شَّيْط َا نَ كَا نَ لِلرَّحْمَنِ عَصِ يّا ً Yā 'Abati 'Inn ī 'Akh ā fu 'An Yamassaka `Adh ā bun Mina A r-Ra ĥmā ni Fatakū na Lilsh sh ayţ ā ni Walīyāan 019-045* My father, I fear lest some torment from the Mercy-giving should afflict you, and you become a partisan of Satan." يَا أَبَتِ إِنّ ِي أَخ َا فُ أَن ْ يَمَسَّكَ عَذَا بٌ مِنَ ا ل رَّحْمَنِ فَتَكُو نَ لِلشَّيْط َا نِ وَلِيّا ً Q ā la 'Arā gh ibun 'An ta `An 'Ā lihatī Yā 'Ib rā hī mu ۖ La'in Lam Tan tahi La'arjumann aka ۖ Wa A hjurnī Malīyāan 019-046* He said: "Do you dislike my gods, Abraham ? If you do not stop, I'll cast you out. Leave me alone as soon as you can!" His Farewell ق َا لَ أَرَ اغِ بٌ أَن ْتَ عَن ْ آلِهَتِي يَاإِب ْراهِي مُ لَئِن ْ ۖ لَمْ تَن تَه ِ ِ لَأَرْجُمَنّ َكَ وَا هْجُرْنِي ۖ مَلِيّا ً Q ā la Salā mun `Alayka ۖ Sa'astagh fir u Laka Ra b bī ۖ 'Inn ahu Kā na Bī Ĥafīyāan 019-047* He said: "Peace be upon you! I'll seek forgiveness for you from my Lord; He has been so Gracious towards me. ق َا لَ سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكَ ۖ سَأَسْتَغْ فِر ُ لَكَ رَ بِّي ۖ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ بِي حَفِيّا ً Wa 'A`tazilukum Wa Mā Tad `ū na Min Dū ni A l-Lahi Wa 'Ad `ū Ra b bī `Asá 'Allā 'Akū na Bidu`ā 'i Ra b bī Sh aq īyāan 019-048* I'll move away from you (all) and from anything you appeal to instead of God. I shall appeal to my Lord; perhaps I'll not feel quite so miserable with my Lord's appeal." وَأَعْتَزِلُكُمْ وَمَا تَد ْعُو نَ مِن ْ دُو نِ ا ل لَّهِ وَأَد ْعُو رَ بِّي عَسَى أَلاَّ أَكُو نَ بِدُعَا ءِ رَ بِّي شَقِ يّا ً Falamm ā A `tazalahum Wa Mā Ya`budū na Min Dū ni A l-Lahi Wahab nā Lahu 'Isĥā q a Wa Ya`q ū ba ۖ Wa Kullā Ja`alnā Nabīyāan 019-049* When he moved away from them and what they worshipped instead of God, We bestowed Isaac and Jacob on him. Each We made a prophet. فَلَمّ َا ا عْتَزَلَهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُو نَ مِن ْ دُو نِ ا ل لَّهِ وَهَب ْنَا لَهُ~ ُ إِسْحَا قَ وَيَعْق ُو بَ ۖ وَكُلاَّ جَعَلْنَا نَبِيّا ً Wa Wahab nā Lahum Min Ra ĥmatinā Wa Ja`alnā Lahum Lisā na Ş id q in `Alīyāan 019-050* We bestowed some of Our mercy on them and granted them a sublime tongue for telling truth. Other Prophets (IV) وَوَهَب ْنَا لَهُم ْ مِن ْ رَ حْمَتِنَا وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ لِسَا نَ صِ د ْقٍ عَلِيّا ً Wa A dh kur Fī A l-Kitā bi Mūsá ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na Mukh laş āan Wa Kā na Ra sūlāan Nabīyāan 019-051* Mention Moses in the Book. He was sincere, and was a messenger, a prophet. وَا ذْكُرْ فِي ا لْكِتَا بِ مُوسَى ۚ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ مُخْ لَص ا ً وَكَا نَ رَ سُولا ً نَبِيّا ً Wa Nādaynā hu Min Jānibi A ţ -Ţ ū r i A l-'Aymani Wa Q arra b nā hu Najīyāan 019-052* We called out to him from the right side of the Mountain, and brought him close to confide in. وَنَادَيْنَا ه ُ مِن ْ جَانِبِ ا ل طّ ُو ر ِ ا لأَيْمَنِ وَقَ رَّب ْنَا ه ُ نَجِيّا ً Wa Wahab nā Lahu Min Ra ĥmatinā 'Akh ā hu Hārū na Nabīyāan 019-053* We bestowed his brother Aaron on him as a prophet through Our mercy. وَوَهَب ْنَا لَه ُ مِن ْ رَ حْمَتِنَا أَخ َا ه ُ هَارُو نَ نَبِيّا ً Wa A dh kur Fī A l-Kitā bi 'Ismā`ī la ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na Ş ādiq a A l-Wa`di Wa Kā na Ra sūlāan Nabīyāan 019-054* Mention Ishmael in the Book. He kept true to the Promise, and was a messenger, a prophet. وَا ذْكُرْ فِي ا لْكِتَا بِ إِسْمَاعِي لَ ۚ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ صَ ادِقَ ا لْوَعْدِ وَكَا نَ رَ سُولا ً نَبِيّا ً Wa Kā na Ya'muru 'Ahlahu Biş -Ş alāati Wa A z-Zakāati Wa Kā na `In da Ra b bihi Marđīyāan 019-055* He used to order his people to pray and [pay] the welfare tax; he was approved by his Lord. وَكَا نَ يَأْمُرُ أَهْلَه ُ بِا ل صّ َلاَةِ وَا ل زَّكَا ةِ وَكَا نَ عِن ْدَ رَ بِّه ِ ِ مَرْضِ يّا ً Wa A dh kur Fī A l-Kitā bi 'Id r ī sa ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na Ş id dīq āan Nabīyāan 019-056* Mention Idifs in the Book. He was a truthful prophet; وَا ذْكُرْ فِي ا لْكِتَا بِ إِد ْر ِي سَ ۚ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ صِ دِّيق ا ً نَبِيّا ً Wa Ra fa`nā hu Makānāan `Alīyāan 019-057* We raised him to a lofty place. BOW DOWN HERE وَرَ فَعْنَا ه ُ مَكَانا ً عَلِيّا ً 'Ū lā 'ika A l-Ladh ī na 'An`ama A l-Lahu `Alayhim Mina A n -Nabīyī na Min Dh urr īyati 'Ā dama Wa Mimm an Ĥamalnā Ma`a Nūĥin Wa Min Dh urr īyati 'Ib rā hī ma Wa 'Isrā 'ī la Wa Mimm an Hadaynā Wa A j tabaynā ۚ 'Idh ā Tutlá `Alayhim 'Ā yā tu A r-Ra ĥmā ni Kh arrū Suj jadāan Wa Bukīyāan 019-058* Those are some of the prophets from Adam's offspring whom God has favored, and some of those We transported along with Noah, and some of Abraham 's and Ishmael's offspring, as well as some (others) We have guided and chosen. Whenever the Mercy-giving's signs are recited to them, they drop down on their knees and weep! The Garden أُ وْلَا ئِكَ ا لَّذِي نَ أَنْعَمَ ا ل لَّهُ عَلَيْهِم ْ مِنَ ا ل نّ َبِيِّي نَ مِن ْ ذُرِّيَّةِ آدَمَ وَمِمّ َنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُو حٍ وَمِن ْ ذُرِّيَّةِ إِب ْرَ اهِي مَ وَإِسْرَا ئِي لَ وَمِمّ َنْ هَدَيْنَا وَا ج ْتَبَيْنَا ۚ إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِمْ آيَا تُ ا ل رَّحْمَنِ خَ رُّوا سُجَّدا ً وَبُكِيّا ً Fakh alafa Min Ba`dihim Kh alfun 'Ađā`ū A ş -Ş alāata Wa A ttaba`ū A sh -Sh ahawā ti ۖ Fasawfa Yalq awna Gh ayyāan 019-059* Descendants have replaced them who neglected prayer and followed [their own] passions. They shall meet with aimlessness فَخَ لَفَ مِن ْ بَعْدِهِمْ خَ لْفٌ أَضَ اعُوا ا ل صّ َلاَةَ وَا تَّبَعُوا ا ل شَّهَوَا تِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَ وْنَ غَ يّا ً 'Illā Man Tā ba Wa 'Ā mana Wa `Amila Ş āliĥāan Fa'ū lā 'ika Yad kh ulū na A l-Jann ata Wa Lā Yužlamū na Sh ay'ā an 019-060* except for anyone who turns around (in repentance) and believes, and acts honorably; those will enter the Garden and not be harmed in any way- إِلاَّ مَن ْ تَا بَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَ ال ِحا ً فَأُ وْلَا ئِكَ يَد ْخُ لُو نَ ا لْجَنّ َةَ وَلاَ يُظْ لَمُو نَ شَيْئا ً Jann ā ti `Ad nin A llatī Wa`ada A r-Ra ĥmā nu `Ibādahu Bil-Gh aybi ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na Wa`duhu Ma'tīyāan 019-061* -the gardens of Eden which the Mercy-giving has promised His servants even though [they are still] Unseen. So far as He is concerned, His promise has already been fulfilled. جَنّ َا تِ عَد ْنٍ ا لَّتِي وَعَدَ ا ل رَّحْمَنُ عِبَادَه ُ بِا لْغَ يْبِ ۚ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ وَعْدُه ُ مَأْتِيّا ً Lā Yasma`ū na Fīhā Lagh wan 'Illā Salāmāan ۖ Wa Lahum R izq uhum Fīhā Bukra tan Wa `Ash īyāan 019-062* They will hear no nonsense in it, only: "Peace!" (as a greeting); they will have their provision there both morning and evening. لاَ يَسْمَعُو نَ فِيهَا لَغْ وا ً إِلاَّ سَلاَما ً ۖ وَلَهُمْ ر ِزْقُ هُمْ فِيهَا بُكْرَ ة ً وَعَشِيّا ً Tilka A l-Jann atu A llatī Nūr ith u Min `Ibādinā Man Kā na Taq īyāan 019-063* Such is the Garden which We bequeath to those of Our servants who have been pious. The Angels' Message: God's Vastness تِلْكَ ا لْجَنّ َةُ ا لَّتِي نُور ِثُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا مَن ْ كَا نَ تَقِ يّا ً Wa Mā Natanazzalu 'Illā Bi'am r i Ra b bika ۖ Lahu Mā Bayna 'Aydīnā Wa Mā Kh alfanā Wa Mā Bayna Dh ālika ۚ Wa Mā Kā na Ra b buka Nasīyāan 019-064* We never descend except at your Lord's command. He owns whatever is in front of us and whatever is behind us, and whatever lies in between. Your Lord is not forgetful, وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلاَّ بِأَمْر ِ رَ بِّكَ ۖ لَه ُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَمَا خَ لْفَنَا وَمَا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ ۚ وَمَا كَا نَ رَ بُّكَ نَسِيّا ً Ra b bu A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā Fā`bud /hu Wa A ş ţ abir Li`ibādatihi ۚ Hal Ta`lamu Lahu Samīyāan 019-065* [for He is] the Lord of Heaven and Earth and whatever lies in between them! So serve Him and persevere in His worship. Do you know of any other title for Him?" Hell (V) رَ بُّ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَا عْبُد ْهُ وَا صْ طَ بِرْ لِعِبَادَتِه ِ ِ ۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَه ُ سَمِيّا ً Wa Yaq ū lu A l-'In sā nu 'A'idh ā Mā Mittu Lasawfa 'Ukh ra ju Ĥayyāan 019-066* Everyman says: "When I die will I be brought forth alive [again]?" وَيَق ُو لُ ا لإِن سَا نُ أَئِذَا مَا مِتُّ لَسَوْفَ أُخْ رَ جُ حَيّا ً 'Awalā Yadh kuru A l-'In sā nu 'Ann ā Kh alaq nā hu Min Q ab lu Wa Lam Yaku Sh ay'ā an 019-067* Does man not recall that We already created him once when he was nothing? أَوَلاَ يَذْكُرُ ا لإِن سَا نُ أَنّ َا خَ لَق ْنَا ه ُ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلُ وَلَمْ يَكُ شَيْئا ً Fawara b bika Lanaĥsh ura nn ahum Wa A sh -Sh ayāţ ī na Th umm a Lanuĥđira nn ahum Ĥawla Jahann ama Jith īyāan 019-068* By your Lord, We shall summon both them and the devils; then We shall parade them forth to crouch around Hell! فَوَرَ بِّكَ لَنَحْشُرَ نّ َهُمْ وَا ل شَّيَاط ِي نَ ثُمّ َ لَنُحْضِ رَ نّ َهُمْ حَوْلَ جَهَنّ َمَ جِثِيّا ً Th umm a Lanan zi`ann a Min Kulli Sh ī`atin 'Ayyuhum 'Ash ad du `Alá A r-Ra ĥmā ni `Itīyāan 019-069* Next We shall drag those away from every sect who have been the most insolent towards the Mercy-giving. ثُمّ َ لَنَن زِعَنّ َ مِن ْ كُلِّ شِيعَةٍ أَيُّهُمْ أَشَدُّ عَلَى ا ل رَّحْمَنِ عِتِيّا ً Th umm a Lanaĥnu 'A`lamu Bial-Ladh ī na Hum 'Awlá Bihā Ş ilīyāan 019-070* Thus We are quite Aware as to who are the closest to roasting in it; ثُمّ َ لَنَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِا لَّذِي نَ هُمْ أَوْلَى بِهَا صِ لِيّا ً Wa 'In Min kum 'Illā Wa A r iduhā ۚ Kā na `Alá Ra b bika Ĥatmāan Maq đīyāan 019-071* there is not one of you but he will be led up to it. That is a decree determined by your Lord. وَإِن ْ مِن ْكُمْ إِلاَّ وَا ر ِدُهَا ۚ كَا نَ عَلَى رَ بِّكَ حَتْما ً مَق ْضِ يّا ً Th umm a Nunaj jī A l-Ladh ī na A ttaq aw Wa Nadh aru A ž-Ž ālimī na Fīhā Jith īyāan 019-072* Then We shall save those who have heeded and leave the wrongdoers crouching inside. ثُمّ َ نُنَجِّي ا لَّذِي نَ ا تَّقَ وْا وَنَذَرُ ا ل ظّ َالِمِي نَ فِيهَا جِثِيّا ً Wa 'Idh ā Tutlá `Alayhim 'Ā yātunā Bayyinā tin Q ā la A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Lilladh ī na 'Ā manū 'Ayyu A l-Far īq ayni Kh ayru n Maq āmāan Wa 'Aĥsanu Nadīyāan 019-073* Whenever Our clear signs are recited to them, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: 'Which group is better in status and a finer club to join?" وَإِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا بَيِّنَا ت ٍ ق َا لَ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا لِلَّذِي نَ آمَنُو ا أَيُّ ا لْفَر ِيقَ يْنِ خَ يْرٌ مَقَ اما ً وَأَحْسَنُ نَدِيّا ً Wa Kam 'Ahlaknā Q ab lahum Min Q arnin Hum 'Aĥsanu 'Ath āth āan Wa R i'yāan 019-074* How many generations have We wiped out before them who were even finer in equipment and appearance! وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَ ب ْلَهُم ْ مِن ْ قَ رْنٍ هُمْ أَحْسَنُ أَثَاثا ً وَر ِئْيا ً Q ul Man Kā na Fī A đ-Đ alālati Falyam dud Lahu A r-Ra ĥmā nu Mad dāan ۚ Ĥattá 'Idh ā Ra 'aw Mā Yū`adū na 'Imm ā A l-`Adh ā ba Wa 'Imm ā A s-Sā`ata Fasaya`lamū na Man Huwa Sh arru n Makānāan Wa 'Ađ`afu Jun dāan 019-075* SAY: "May the Mercy-giving extend an opportunity to anyone who has been in error so that when they see what they are threatened with, whether it is torment or even the Hour, they will know who is in a worse plight and has the weakest following. قُ لْ مَن ْ كَا نَ فِي ا ل ضّ َلاَلَةِ فَلْيَمْدُد ْ لَهُ ا ل رَّحْمَنُ مَدّا ً ۚ حَتَّى إِذَا رَ أَوْا مَا يُوعَدُو نَ إِمّ َا ا لْعَذَا بَ وَإِمّ َا ا ل سَّاعَةَ فَسَيَعْلَمُو نَ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مَكَانا ً وَأَضْ عَفُ جُن دا ً Wa Yazī du A l-Lahu A l-Ladh ī na A htadaw Hud áan Wa ۗ A l-Bāq iyā tu A ş -Ş āliĥā tu Kh ayru n `In da Ra b bika Th awābāan Wa Kh ayru n Mara d dāan 019-076* God increases guidance for those who have consented to be guide while honorable deeds that endure are best with your Lord as recompense and yield the best returns. False Gods are Futile وَيَزِي دُ ا ل لَّهُ ا لَّذِي نَ ا هْتَدَوْا هُدى ً ۗ وَا لْبَاقِ يَا تُ ا ل صّ َالِحَا تُ خَ يْرٌ عِن ْدَ رَ بِّكَ ثَوَابا ً وَخَ يْرٌ مَرَ دّا ً 'Afara 'ayta A l-Ladh ī Kafara Bi'ā yātinā Wa Q ā la La'ū tayann a Mālāan Wa Waladāan 019-077* Have you seen someone who disowns Our signs and says: "I shall still be given wealth and children? أَفَرَ أَيْتَ ا لَّذِي كَفَرَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَق َا لَ لَأُ وتَيَنّ َ مَالا ً وَوَلَدا ً 'Ā ţ ţ ala`a A l-Gh ayba 'Am A ttakh adh a `In da A r-Ra ĥmā ni `Ahdāan 019-078* Has he probed the Unseen or made a pled with the Mercy-giving? أَا طّ َلَعَ ا لْغَ يْبَ أَمْ ا تَّخَ ذَ عِن ْدَ ا ل رَّحْمَنِ عَهْدا ً Kallā ۚ Sanaktubu Mā Yaq ū lu Wa Namud du Lahu Mina A l-`Adh ā bi Mad dāan 019-079* Not at all! We shall write down anything he says and extend a chance of torment to him; كَلاَّ ۚ سَنَكْتُبُ مَا يَق ُو لُ وَنَمُدُّ لَه ُ مِنَ ا لْعَذَا بِ مَدّا ً Wa Nar ith uhu Mā Yaq ū lu Wa Ya'tīnā Fardāan 019-080* We will inherit anything he says, and he will come to Us as an individual. وَنَر ِثُه ُ مَا يَق ُو لُ وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدا ً Wa A ttakh adh ū Min Dū ni A l-Lahi 'Ā lihatan Liyakūnū Lahum `Izzāan 019-081* They have adopted other deities instead of God, so they will mean [more] influence for them. وَا تَّخَ ذُوا مِن ْ دُو نِ ا ل لَّهِ آلِهَة ً لِيَكُونُوا لَهُمْ عِزّا ً Kallā ۚ Sayakfurū na Bi`ibādatihim Wa Yakūnū na `Alayhim Đ id dāan 019-082*Not at all! The [false gods] will reject their own worship and pit themselves against them. (VI) كَلاَّ ۚ سَيَكْفُرُو نَ بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ وَيَكُونُو نَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضِ دّا ً 'Alam Tara 'Ann ā 'Arsalnā A sh -Sh ayāţ ī na `Alá A l-Kāfir ī na Ta'uuzzuhum 'Azzāan 019-083* Have you not seen how We send devils to disbelievers, to provoke them to fury? أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنّ َا أَرْسَلْنَا ا ل شَّيَاط ِي نَ عَلَى ا لْكَافِر ِي نَ تَؤُزُّهُمْ أَزّا ً Falā Ta`jal `Alayhim ۖ 'Inn amā Na`ud du Lahum `Ad dāan 019-084* So do not act hasty towards them; We are only counting out so much [time] for them. فَلاَ تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنّ َمَا نَعُدُّ لَهُمْ عَدّا ً Yawma Naĥsh uru A l-Muttaq ī na 'Ilá A r-Ra ĥmā ni Wafdāan 019-085* Some day We shall summon the heedful in a delegation before the Mercy-giving, يَوْمَ نَحْشُرُ ا لْمُتَّق ِي نَ إِلَى ا ل رَّحْمَنِ وَفْدا ً Wa Nasū q u A l-Muj r imī na 'Ilá Jahann ama Wir dāan 019-086* and drive criminals in a drove towards Hell. وَنَسُو قُ ا لْمُج ْر ِمِي نَ إِلَى جَهَنّ َمَ وِرْدا ً Lā Yam likū na A sh -Sh afā`ata 'Illā Mani A ttakh adh a `In da A r-Ra ĥmā ni `Ahdāan 019-087* They will possess no power of intercession except for someone who has already accepted a pledge from the Mercy-giving. God Needs No Son لاَ يَمْلِكُو نَ ا ل شَّفَاعَةَ إِلاَّ مَنِ ا تَّخَ ذَ عِن ْدَ ا ل رَّحْمَنِ عَهْدا ً Wa Q ālū A ttakh adh a A r-Ra ĥmā nu Waladāan 019-088* They say: "The Mercy-giving has adopted a son!" وَقَ الُوا ا تَّخَ ذَ ا ل رَّحْمَنُ وَلَدا ً Laq ad Ji'tum Sh ay'ā an 'Id dāan 019-089* You have brought up something monstrous! لَقَ د ْ جِئْتُمْ شَيْئا ً إِدّا ً Takā du A s-Samāwā tu Yatafaţ ţ arna Minhu Wa Tan sh aq q u A l-'Arđu Wa Takh irru A l-Jibā lu Had dāan 019-090* "Me heavens almost burst apart from it, while the earth splits open and the mountains fall down with a crash تَكَا دُ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تُ يَتَفَطّ َرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَن شَقّ ُ ا لأَرْضُ وَتَخِ رُّ ا لْجِبَا لُ هَدّا ً 'An Da`aw Lilrra ĥmani Waladāan 019-091* that anyone should ascribe a son to the Mercy-giving! أَن ْ دَعَوْا لِلرَّحْمَنِ وَلَدا ً Wa Mā Yan bagh ī Lilrra ĥmani 'An Yattakh idh a Waladāan 019-092* It is not proper for the Mercy-giving to adopt a son. وَمَا يَن ْبَغِ ي لِلرَّحْمَنِ أَن ْ يَتَّخِ ذَ وَلَدا ً 'In Kullu Man Fī A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi 'Illā 'Ā tī A r-Ra ĥmā ni `Ab dāan 019-093* Everyone who is in Heaven and Earth comes to the Mercy-giving merely as a servant; إِن ْ كُلُّ مَن ْ فِي ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ إِلاَّ آتِي ا ل رَّحْمَنِ عَب ْدا ً Laq ad 'Aĥş āhum Wa `Ad dahum `Ad dāan 019-094* He numbers them and counts them up. لَقَ د ْ أَحْصَ اهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدّا ً Wa Kulluhum 'Ā tī hi Yawma A l-Q iyāmati Fardāan 019-095* Each of them is coming to Him on Resurrection Day as an individual. وَكُلُّهُمْ آتِي ه ِ ِ يَوْمَ ا لْقِ يَامَةِ فَرْدا ً 'Inn a A l-Ladh ī na 'Ā manū Wa `Amilū A ş -Ş āliĥā ti Sayaj `alu Lahumu A r-Ra ĥmā nu Wud dāan 019-096* The Mercy-giving will grant affection to those who believe and perform honorable deeds. إِنّ َ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ا ل صّ َالِحَا تِ سَيَج ْعَلُ لَهُمُ ا ل رَّحْمَنُ وُدّا ً Fa'inn amā Yassarnā hu Bilisānika Litubash sh ir a Bihi A l-Muttaq ī na Wa Tun dh ir a Bihi Q awmāan Lud dāan 019-097* We have made it easy for your tongue so you may announce good news about it to those who do their duty, and warn headstrong folk by means of it. فَإِنّ َمَا يَسَّرْنَا ه ُ بِلِسَانِكَ لِتُبَشِّر َ بِهِ ا لْمُتَّق ِي نَ وَتُن ذِر َ بِه ِ ِ قَ وْما ً لُدّا ً Wa Kam 'Ahlaknā Q ab lahum Min Q arnin Hal Tuĥissu Minhum Min 'Aĥadin 'Aw Tasma`u Lahum R ikzāan 019-098* How many generations have We wiped out before them? Do you find any trace of even one of them, or hear a murmur from them? وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَ ب ْلَهُم ْ مِن ْ قَ رْنٍ هَلْ تُحِسُّ مِنْهُم ْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ أَوْ تَسْمَعُ لَهُمْ ر ِكْزا ً Next Sūrah
