H. طَ اهَا Mā 'An zalnā `Alayka A l-Q ur'ā na Litash q á 020-002* We have not sent the Quran down to you in order to upset you, مَا أَن ْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ا لْقُ رْآنَ لِتَشْقَ ى 'Illā Tadh kira tan Liman Yakh sh á 020-003* but only as a Reminder for someone who acts cautiously; إِلاَّ تَذْكِرَ ة ً لِمَن ْ يَخْ شَى Tan zīlāan Mimm an Kh alaq a A l-'Arđa Wa A s-Samāwā ti A l-`Ulā 020-004* [it is] a revelation from the One Who created the earth and the highest heavens, تَن زِيلا ً مِمّ َنْ خَ لَقَ ا لأَرْضَ وَا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ ا لْعُلاَ Ar-Ra ĥmā nu `Alá A l-`Arsh i A stawá 020-005* the Mercy-giving [Who is] settled on the Throne. ا ل رَّحْمَنُ عَلَى ا لْعَرْشِ ا سْتَوَى Lahu Mā Fī A s-Samāwā ti Wa Mā Fī A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā Wa Mā Taĥta A th -Th ará 020-006* He owns whatever is in Heaven and whatever is on Earth, as well as whatever lies in between them, and what lies underneath the sod. لَه ُ مَا فِي ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَمَا فِي ا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ ا ل ثَّرَ ى Wa 'In Taj har Bil-Q awli Fa'inn ahu Ya`lamu A s-Sir ra Wa 'Akh fá 020-007* No matter whether you speak out loud, He still knows your secrets and what is even more suppressed. وَإِن ْ تَج ْهَرْ بِا لْقَ وْلِ فَإِنّ َه ُ يَعْلَمُ ا ل سِّرَّ وَأَخْ فَى Al-Lahu Lā 'Ilā ha 'Illā Huwa ۖ Lahu A l-'Asmā 'u A l-Ĥusn á 020-008* God, there is no deity except Him! His are the Finest Names! Moses' Story ا ل لَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ا لأَسْمَا ءُ ا لْحُسْنَى Wa Hal 'Atā ka Ĥadīth u Mūsá 020-009* Has Moses' story ever reached you? وَهَلْ أَتَا كَ حَدِي ثُ مُوسَى 'Idh Ra 'á Nārā an Faq ā la Li'hlihi A m kuth ū 'Inn ī 'Ā nastu Nārā an La`allī 'Ā tīkum Minhā Biq abasin 'Aw 'Ajidu `Alá A n -Nā r i Hud áan 020-010* Once he saw a fire and told his family: "Wait here; I have glimpsed a fire. Maybe I can bring you a coal from it, or find some guidance at the fire." Disbelievers' Victims إِذْ رَ أَى نَارا ً فَق َا لَ لِأهْلِهِ ا مْكُثُو ا إِنّ ِي آنَسْتُ نَارا ً لَعَلِّي آتِيكُم ْ مِنْهَا بِقَ بَسٍ أَوْ أَجِدُ عَلَى ا ل نّ َا ر ِ هُدى ً Falamm ā 'Atāhā Nūdī Yā Mūsá 020-011* As he came up to it, [a voice] called out: "Moses, فَلَمّ َا أَتَاهَا نُودِي يَامُوسَى 'Inn ī 'Anā Ra b buka Fākh la` Na`layka ۖ 'Inn aka Bil-Wā di A l-Muq ad dasi Ţ ūáan 020-012* I am your Lord! Take off your sandals; you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa. إِنّ ِي أَنَا رَ بُّكَ فَا خْ لَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ إِنّ َكَ بِا لْوَا دِ ا لْمُقَ دَّسِ طُ وى ً Wa 'Anā A kh tartuka Fāstami` Limā Yūĥá 020-013* I have chosen you, so listen to whatever is revealed: وَأَنَا ا خْ تَرْتُكَ فَا سْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَى 'Inn anī 'Anā A l-Lahu Lā 'Ilā ha 'Illā 'Anā Fā`bud nī Wa 'Aq imi A ş -Ş alāata Lidh ikr ī 020-014* I am God [Alone]! There is no deity except Myself, so serve Me and keep up prayer to remember Me by. إِنّ َنِي أَنَا ا ل لَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنَا فَا عْبُد ْنِي وَأَقِ مِ ا ل صّ َلاَةَ لِذِكْر ِي 'Inn a A s-Sā`ata 'Ā tiyatun 'Akā du 'Ukh fīhā Lituj zá Kullu Nafsin Bimā Tas`á 020-015* The Hour is coming! I am keeping it hidden so that each soul may be rewarded for whatever it accomplishes. إِنّ َ ا ل سَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ أَكَا دُ أُخْ فِيهَا لِتُج ْزَى كُلُّ نَفْس ٍ بِمَا تَسْعَى Falā Yaş ud dann aka `Anhā Man Lā Yu'uminu Bihā Wa A ttaba`a Hawā hu Fatard á 020-016* So do not let anyone who does not believe in it and follows his own passion, bar you from it so that you may perish! فَلاَ يَصُ دَّنّ َكَ عَنْهَا مَن ْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَا تَّبَعَ هَوَا ه ُ فَتَرْدَى Wa Mā Tilka Biyamīnika Yā Mūsá 020-017* "What do you have in your right hand, Moses?" وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَامُوسَى Q ā la Hiya `Aş ā ya 'Atawakka'u `Alayhā Wa 'Ahush sh u Bihā `Alá Gh anamī Wa Liya Fīhā Ma'ā r ibu 'Ukh rá 020-018* He said: "It is my staff. I lean on it, and beat down fodder for my sheep and goats with it; and I have still other uses for it." ق َا لَ هِيَ عَص َا يَ أَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَى غَ نَمِي وَلِيَ فِيهَا مَآر ِبُ أُخْ رَ ى Q ā la 'Alq ihā Yā Mūsá 020-019* He said: "Toss it down, Moses." ق َا لَ أَلْقِ هَا يَامُوسَى Fa'alq āhā Fa'idh ā Hiya Ĥayyatun Tas`á 020-020* So he threw it down, and just imagine, it became a snake that crawled along! فَأَلْقَ اهَا فَإِذَا هِيَ حَيَّة ٌ تَسْعَى Q ā la Kh udh /hā Wa Lā Takh af ۖ Sanu`īduhā Sīra tahā A l-'Ū lá 020-021* He said: "Pick it up, and do not be afraid. We shall return it to its original shape. ق َا لَ خُ ذْهَا وَلاَ تَخَ فْ ۖ سَنُعِيدُهَا سِيرَ تَهَا ا لأُ ولَى Wa A đmum Yadaka 'Ilá Janāĥika Takh ru j Bayđā 'a Min Gh ayr i Sū 'in 'Ā yatan 'Ukh rá 020-022* And stick your hand under your armpit: it will come out white without [showing] any blemish, as another sign وَا ضْ مُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَى جَنَاحِكَ تَخْ رُج ْ بَيْض َا ءَ مِنْ غَ يْر ِ سُو ء ٍ آيَةً أُخْ رَ ى Linur iyaka Min 'Ā yātinā A l-Kub rá 020-023* so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs! لِنُر ِيَكَ مِن ْ آيَاتِنَا ا لْكُب ْرَ ى A dh /hab 'Ilá Fir `awna 'Inn ahu Ţ agh á 020-024* Go to Pharaoh; he has been so arrogant." Moses' Prayer (II) ا ذْهَب ْ إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ إِنّ َه ُ طَ غَ ى Q ā la Ra b bi A sh ra ĥ Lī Ş ad r ī 020-025* He said: "My Lord, ease my breast for me! ق َا لَ رَ بِّ ا شْرَ حْ لِي صَ د ْر ِي Wa Yassir Lī 'Am r ī 020-026* Make my affair easier for me, وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْر ِي Wa A ĥlul `Uq datan Min Lisānī 020-027* and loose a knot from my tongue وَا حْلُلْ عُق ْدَة ً مِن ْ لِسَانِي Yafq ahū Q awlī 020-028* so they may understand whatever I say. يَفْقَ هُوا قَ وْلِي Wa A j `al Lī Wazīrā an Min 'Ahlī 020-029* Grant me a helpmate from my own people, وَا ج ْعَل ْ لِي وَزِيرا ً مِنْ أَهْلِي Hārū na 'Akh ī 020-030* Aaron, my brother. هَارُو نَ أَخِ ي A sh dud Bihi 'Azr ī 020-031* "Back me up by means of him ا شْدُد ْ بِهِ أَزْر ِي Wa 'Ash r ik/hu Fī 'Am r ī 020-032* and let him share in my affair وَأَشْر ِكْهُ فِي أَمْر ِي Kay Nusab biĥaka Kath īrā an 020-033* so that we may glorify You frequently كَيْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيرا ً Wa Nadh kura ka Kath īrā an 020-034* and mention You often, وَنَذْكُرَ كَ كَثِيرا ً 'Inn aka Kun ta Binā Baş īrā an 020-035* since You have been Observant of us." إِنّ َكَ كُن ْتَ بِنَا بَصِ يرا ً Q ā la Q ad 'Ū tī ta Su'ulaka Yā Mūsá 020-036* He said: "You have been granted your request, Moses. ق َا لَ قَ د ْ أُ وتِي تَ سُؤْلَكَ يَامُوسَى Wa Laq ad Manann ā `Alayka Marra tan 'Ukh rá 020-037* We endowed you another time وَلَقَ د ْ مَنَنّ َا عَلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أُخْ رَ ى 'Idh 'Awĥaynā 'Ilá 'Umm ika Mā Yūĥá 020-038* when We revealed whatever was revealed to your mother: إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى أُمّ ِكَ مَا يُوحَى 'Ani A q dh ifī hi Fī A t-Tābū ti Fāq dh ifī hi Fī A l-Yamm i Falyulq ihi A l-Yamm u Bis-Sāĥili Ya'kh udh /hu `Adū wun Lī Wa`adū wun Lahu ۚ Wa 'Alq aytu `Alayka Maĥab batan Minn ī Wa Lituş na`a `Alá `Ayni 020-039* "Cast him into the chest, and toss it into the river. The current will throw him up on the shore where an enemy of Mine as well as an enemy of his will pick him up." "I have lavished love of My own on you so that you might be made into My darling. أَنِ ا ق ْذِفِي ه ِ ِ فِي ا ل تَّابُو تِ فَا ق ْذِفِي ه ِ ِ فِي ا لْيَمّ ِ فَلْيُلْقِ هِ ا لْيَمّ ُ بِا ل سَّاحِلِ يَأْخُ ذْهُ عَدُوٌّ لِي وَعَدُوٌّ لَه ُ ۚ وَأَلْقَ يْتُ عَلَيْكَ مَحَبَّة ً مِنّ ِي وَلِتُصْ نَعَ عَلَى عَيْنِ 'Idh Tam sh ī 'Ukh tuka Fataq ū lu Hal 'Adullukum `Alá Man Yakfuluhu ۖ Fara ja`nā ka 'Ilá 'Umm ika Kay Taq arra `Aynuhā Wa Lā Taĥzana ۚ Wa Q atalta Nafsāan Fanaj jaynā ka Mina A l-Gh amm i Wa Fatann ā ka Futūnāan ۚ Falabith ta Sinī na Fī 'Ahli Mad yana Th umm a Ji'ta `Alá Q adar in Yā Mūsá 020-040* So your sister was walking along, and said: "Shall I lead you to someone who will take care of him?' Thus We returned you to your mother to comfort her and so she would not feel so sad. "You killed a soul and We saved you from grief. We tested you severely, and you stayed among the people of Midian for years. Then you came just as fate [decreed], Moses. إِذْ تَمْشِي أُخْ تُكَ فَتَق ُو لُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى مَن ْ يَكْفُلُه ُ ۖ فَرَ جَعْنَا كَ إِلَى أُمّ ِكَ كَيْ تَقَ رَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلاَ تَحْزَنَ ۚ وَقَ تَلْتَ نَفْسا ً فَنَجَّيْنَا كَ مِنَ ا لْغَ مّ ِ وَفَتَنّ َا كَ فُتُونا ً ۚ فَلَبِثْتَ سِنِي نَ فِي أَهْلِ مَد ْيَنَ ثُمّ َ جِئْتَ عَلَى قَ دَرٍ يَامُوسَى Wa A ş ţ ana`tuka Linafsī 020-041* I have produced you for Myself. وَا صْ طَ نَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِي A dh /hab 'An ta Wa 'Akh ū ka Bi'ā yātī Wa Lā Taniyā Fī Dh ikr ī 020-042* Take My signs away, both you and your brother, and do not neglect to mention Me. ا ذْهَب ْ أَن ْتَ وَأَخ ُو كَ بِآيَاتِي وَلاَ تَنِيَا فِي ذِكْر ِي A dh /habā 'Ilá Fir `awna 'Inn ahu Ţ agh á 020-043* Go to Pharaoh; he has been so arrogant. ا ذْهَبَا إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ إِنّ َه ُ طَ غَ ى Faq ūlā Lahu Q awlāan Layyināan La`allahu Yatadh akkaru 'Aw Yakh sh á 020-044* Speak a soft word to him so that he may be reminded or even feel afraid." The Greeting to non-Muslims فَقُ ولاَ لَه ُ قَ وْلا ً لَيِّنا ً لَعَلَّه ُ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْ شَى Q ālā Ra b banā 'Inn anā Nakh ā fu 'An Yafru ţ a `Alaynā 'Aw 'An Yaţ gh á 020-045* They both said: "Our Lord, we fear lest he crack down on us or that he should act arrogant." قَ الاَ رَ بَّنَا إِنّ َنَا نَخ َا فُ أَن ْ يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَا أَوْ أَن ْ يَط ْغَ ى Q ā la Lā Takh āfā ۖ 'Inn anī Ma`akumā 'Asma`u Wa 'Ará 020-046* He said: "Do not fear; I am with you both. I both hear and see. ق َا لَ لاَ تَخَ افَا ۖ إِنّ َنِي مَعَكُمَا أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَ ى Fa'tiyā hu Faq ūlā 'Inn ā Ra sūlā Ra b bika Fa'arsil Ma`anā Banī 'Isrā 'ī la Wa Lā Tu`adh dh ib hum ۖ Q ad Ji'nā ka Bi'ā yatin Min Ra b bika Wa ۖ A s-Salā mu `Alá Mani A ttaba`a A l-Hud á 020-047* Go to him and say: "We are both messengers from your Lord. Send the Children of Israel away with us and do not torment them. We have brought you a sign from your Lord, and may "Peace be upon whoever follows guidance." فَأْتِيَا ه ُ فَقُ ولاَ إِنّ َا رَ سُولاَ رَ بِّكَ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ وَلاَ تُعَذِّب ْهُمْ ۖ قَ د ْ جِئْنَا كَ بِآيَةٍ مِن ْ رَ بِّكَ ۖ وَا ل سَّلاَمُ عَلَى مَنِ ا تَّبَعَ ا لْهُدَى 'Inn ā Q ad 'Ū ĥiya 'Ilaynā 'Ann a A l-`Adh ā ba `Alá Man Kadh dh aba Wa Tawallá 020-048* As for us, it has been revealed to us that torment is due anyone who says it is a lie and turns away!'" إِنّ َا قَ د ْ أُ وحِيَ إِلَيْنَا أَنّ َ ا لْعَذَا بَ عَلَى مَن ْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى Q ā la Faman Ra b bukumā Yā Mūsá 020-049* He said; "Who is Lord for both of you, Moses?" ق َا لَ فَمَن ْ رَ بُّكُمَا يَامُوسَى Q ā la Ra b bunā A l-Ladh ī 'A`ţ á Kulla Sh ay'in Kh alq ahu Th umm a Had á 020-050* He said: "Our Lord is the One Who has given everything its own constitution; then guided it." ق َا لَ رَ بُّنَا ا لَّذِي أَعْطَ ى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَ لْقَ ه ُ ثُمّ َ هَدَى Q ā la Famā Bā lu A l-Q urū ni A l-'Ū lá 020-051* He said: "So what was the attitude during earlier centuries?" ق َا لَ فَمَا بَا لُ ا لْقُ رُو نِ ا لأُ ولَى Q ā la `Ilmuhā `In da Ra b bī Fī Kitā bin ۖ Lā Yađillu Ra b bī Wa Lā Yan sá 020-052* He said: "Knowledge concerning them rests in a Book with my Lord. My Lord neither misses anything, nor does He forget, ق َا لَ عِلْمُهَا عِن ْدَ رَ بِّي فِي كِتَا بٍ ۖ لاَ يَضِ لُّ رَ بِّي وَلاَ يَن سَى Al-Ladh ī Ja`ala Lakumu A l-'Arđa Mahdāan Wa Salaka Lakum Fīhā Subulāan Wa 'An zala Mina A s-Samā 'i Mā 'an Fa'akh ra j nā Bihi 'Azwājāan Min Nabā tin Sh attá 020-053* [since he is the One] Who has laid out the earth as a carpet for you and has traced highways on it for you, and sent down water from the sky, We have brought forth every sort of plant with it, of various types. ا لَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ا لأَرْضَ مَهْدا ً وَسَلَكَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلا ً وَأَن زَلَ مِنَ ا ل سَّمَا ءِ مَا ء ً فَأَخْ رَ ج ْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجا ً مِن ْ نَبَا ت ٍ شَتَّى Kulū Wa A r`aw 'An`āmakum ۗ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yā tin Li'wlī A n -Nuhá 020-054* Eat and pasture your livestock [on it]; in that are signs for men of accomplishment. A Burial Prayer (III) كُلُوا وَا رْعَوْا أَنْعَامَكُمْ ۗ إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَا تٍ لِأوْلِي ا ل نّ ُهَى Minhā Kh alaq nākum Wa Fīhā Nu`īdukum Wa Minhā Nukh r ijukum Tāra tan 'Ukh rá 020-055* "From it We have created you and We will return you to it, and from it shall We bring you forth for another chance." مِنْهَا خَ لَق ْنَاكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْ ر ِجُكُمْ تَارَ ةً أُخْ رَ ى Wa Laq ad 'Ara ynā hu 'Ā yātinā Kullahā Fakadh dh aba Wa 'Ab á 020-056* Yet We showed him all Our signs, and he said they were ties and rejected them! وَلَقَ د ْ أَرَ يْنَا هُ آيَاتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَأَبَى Q ā la 'Aji'tanā Litukh r ijanā Min 'Arđinā Bisiĥr ika Yā Mūsá 020-057* He said: "Have you come to us to turn us out of our land through your magic, Moses? ق َا لَ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْ ر ِجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِ نَا بِسِحْر ِكَ يَامُوسَى Falana'tiyann aka Bisiĥr in Mith lihi Fāj `al Baynanā Wa Baynaka Maw`idāan Lā Nukh lifuhu Naĥnu Wa Lā 'An ta Makānāan Sūáan 020-058* We will bring magic to match it, so make an appointment between us and you in some convenient place which neither we nor you will break." فَلَنَأْتِيَنّ َكَ بِسِحْرٍ مِثْلِه ِ ِ فَا ج ْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِدا ً لاَ نُخْ لِفُه ُ نَحْنُ وَلاَ أَن ْتَ مَكَانا ً سُوى ً Q ā la Maw`idukum Yawmu A z-Zīnati Wa 'An Yuĥsh ara A n -Nā su Đ uĥáan 020-059* He said: "Your appointment will be on Decoration Day so that people may be summoned early in the morning." ق َا لَ مَوْعِدُكُمْ يَوْمُ ا ل زِّينَةِ وَأَن ْ يُحْشَرَ ا ل نّ َا سُ ضُ حى ً Fatawallá Fir `awnu Fajama`a Kaydahu Th umm a 'Atá 020-060* So Pharaoh turned away and put his plan together; then he came [back]. فَتَوَلَّى فِرْعَوْنُ فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَه ُ ثُمّ َ أَتَى Q ā la Lahum Mūsá Waylakum Lā Taftarū `Alá A l-Lahi Kadh ibāan Fayusĥitakum Bi`adh ā bin ۖ Wa Q ad Kh ā ba Mani A ftará 020-061* Moses told them: "Watch out for yourselves! Dont invent any lie about God lest He blot you out through torment. Anyone who invents things will be disappointed." ق َا لَ لَهُم ْ مُوسَى وَيْلَكُمْ لاَ تَفْتَرُوا عَلَى ا ل لَّهِ كَذِبا ً فَيُسْحِتَكُم ْ بِعَذَا بٍ ۖ وَقَ د ْ خ َا بَ مَنِ ا فْتَرَ ى Fatanāza`ū 'Am ra hum Baynahum Wa 'Asarrū A n -Naj wá 020-062* They debated their case among themselves and kept the discussion secret. فَتَنَازَعُو ا أَمْرَ هُم ْ بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا ا ل نّ َج ْوَى Q ālū 'In Hadh ā ni Lasāĥirā ni Yur īdā ni 'An Yukh r ijākum Min 'Arđikum Bisiĥr ihimā Wa Yadh /habā Biţ ar īq atikumu A l-Muth lá 020-063* They said: "These are both magicians who want to expel you from your land by means of their magic, and do away with your exemplary ways. قَ الُو ا إِنْ هَذَا نِ لَسَاحِرَا نِ يُر ِيدَا نِ أَن ْ يُخْ ر ِجَاكُم ْ مِنْ أَرْضِ كُم ْ بِسِحْر ِهِمَا وَيَذْهَبَا بِطَ ر ِيقَ تِكُمُ ا لْمُثْلَى Fa'aj mi`ū Kaydakum Th umm a A 'tū Ş affāan ۚ Wa Q ad 'Aflaĥa A l-Yawma Mani A sta`lá 020-064* Get together for your scheme; then come all lined up. Whoever comes out on top today will prosper!" The Tournament of Magic فَأَج ْمِعُوا كَيْدَكُمْ ثُمّ َ ا ئْتُوا صَ فّا ً ۚ وَقَ د ْ أَفْلَحَ ا لْيَوْمَ مَنِ ا سْتَعْلَى Q ālū Yā Mūsá 'Imm ā 'An Tulq iya Wa 'Imm ā 'An Nakū na 'Awwala Man 'Alq á 020-065* They said: "Moses, either you will cast [something] or shall we be the first to cast [a spell]?" قَ الُوا يَامُوسَى إِمّ َا أَن ْ تُلْقِ يَ وَإِمّ َا أَن ْ نَكُو نَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَلْقَ ى Q ā la Bal 'Alq ū ۖ Fa'idh ā Ĥibāluhum Wa `Iş īyuhum Yukh ayyalu 'Ilayhi Min Siĥr ihim 'Ann ahā Tas`á 020-066* He said: "Rather you throw [first]." You should have seen their ropes and rods! It appeared to him as if they were moving around because of their magic, ق َا لَ بَلْ أَلْقُ وا ۖ فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِ يُّهُمْ يُخَ يَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن ْ سِحْر ِهِمْ أَنّ َهَا تَسْعَى Fa'awjasa Fī Nafsihi Kh īfatan Mūsá 020-067* so Moses conceived a fear within himself. فَأَوْجَسَ فِي نَفْسِه ِ ِ خِ يفَة ً مُوسَى Q ulnā Lā Takh af 'Inn aka 'An ta A l-'A`lá 020-068* We said: "Do not act afraid: you will come out on top! قُ لْنَا لاَ تَخَ فْ إِنّ َكَ أَن ْتَ ا لأَعْلَى Wa 'Alq i Mā Fī Yamīnika Talq af Mā Ş ana`ū ۖ 'Inn amā Ş ana`ū Kaydu Sāĥir in ۖ Wa Lā Yufliĥu A s-Sāĥir u Ĥayth u 'Atá 020-069* Throw down what is in your right hand so it will swallow up anything they have produced. What they have produced is only some magician's trick, and no magician succeeds no matter where he goes." وَأَلْقِ مَا فِي يَمِينِكَ تَلْقَ فْ مَا صَ نَعُو ا ۖ إِنّ َمَا صَ نَعُوا كَيْدُ سَاحِرٍ ۖ وَلاَ يُفْلِحُ ا ل سَّاحِر ُ حَيْثُ أَتَى Fa'ulq iya A s-Saĥara tu Suj jadāan Q ālū 'Ā mann ā Bira b bi Hārū na Wa Mūsá 020-070* So the magicians threw themselves down on their knees. They said: "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses." فَأُلْقِ يَ ا ل سَّحَرَ ةُ سُجَّدا ً قَ الُو ا آمَنّ َا بِرَ بِّ هَارُو نَ وَمُوسَى Q ā la 'Ā man tum Lahu Q ab la 'An 'Ā dh ana Lakum ۖ 'Inn ahu Lakabīru kumu A l-Ladh ī `Allamakumu A s-Siĥra ۖ Fala'uq aţ ţ i`ann a 'Aydiyakum Wa 'Arjulakum Min Kh ilā fin Wa La'uş allibann akum Fī Judh ū `i A n -Nakh li Wa Lata`lamunn a 'Ayyunā 'Ash ad du `Adh ābāan Wa 'Ab q á 020-071* He said: "Have you believed in Him before I permit you to? He must be your chief who has taught you magic! I'll cut your hands and feet off on opposite sides, and have you crucified on the trunks of datepalms, so you may know which of us is harsher with torment and going to last longer." ق َا لَ آمَن ْتُمْ لَه ُ قَ ب ْلَ أَن ْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنّ َه ُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ا لَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ ا ل سِّحْرَ ۖ فَلَأُقَ طّ ِعَنّ َ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم ْ مِنْ خِ لاَفٍ وَلَأُصَ لِّبَنّ َكُمْ فِي جُذُو عِ ا ل نّ َخْ لِ وَلَتَعْلَمُنّ َ أَيُّنَا أَشَدُّ عَذَابا ً وَأَب ْقَ ى Q ālū Lan Nu'uth ira ka `Alá Mā Jā 'anā Mina A l-Bayyinā ti Wa A l-Ladh ī Faţ ara nā ۖ Fāq đi Mā 'An ta Q āđin ۖ 'Inn amā Taq đī Hadh ihi A l-Ĥayāata A d -Dun yā 020-072* They said: "We will never choose you before explanations have come to us nor ahead of the One Who originated us. Decide anything you may decide; you are no judge: You will only decide during this worldly life. قَ الُوا لَن ْ نُؤْثِرَ كَ عَلَى مَا جَا ءَنَا مِنَ ا لْبَيِّنَا تِ وَا لَّذِي فَطَ رَ نَا ۖ فَا ق ْضِ مَا أَن ْتَ ق َا ض ٍ ۖ إِنّ َمَا تَق ْضِ ي هَذِهِ ا لْحَيَا ةَ ا ل دُّن ْيَا 'Inn ā 'Ā mann ā Bira b binā Liyagh fir a Lanā Kh aţ āyānā Wa Mā 'Akra htanā `Alayhi Mina A s-Siĥr i Wa ۗ A ll ā hu Kh ayru n Wa 'Ab q á 020-073* We believe in our Lord, so He may forgive us our mistakes as well as for any magic you have compelled us to perform. God is Better and more Enduring." Hell and Heaven as Rewards إِنّ َا آمَنّ َا بِرَ بِّنَا لِيَغْ فِر َ لَنَا خَ طَ ايَانَا وَمَا أَكْرَ هْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ا ل سِّحْر ِ ۗ وَا ل لَّهُ خَ يْرٌ وَأَب ْقَ ى 'Inn ahu Man Ya'ti Ra b bahu Muj r imāan Fa'inn a Lahu Jahann ama Lā Yamū tu Fīhā Wa Lā Yaĥyā 020-074* Anyone who comes to his Lord as a criminal will have HELL [as his reward]; he will neither die in it, nor yet will he live [a decent life]. إِنّ َه ُ مَن ْ يَأْتِ رَ بَّه ُ مُج ْر ِما ً فَإِنّ َ لَه ُ جَهَنّ َمَ لاَ يَمُو تُ فِيهَا وَلاَ يَحْيَا Wa Man Ya'tihi Mu'umināan Q ad `Amila A ş -Ş āliĥā ti Fa'ū lā 'ika Lahumu A d -Dara jā tu A l-`Ulā 020-075* Whoever comes to Him as a believer has performed honorable deeds; those will have the highest ranks, وَمَن ْ يَأْتِه ِ ِ مُؤْمِنا ً قَ د ْ عَمِلَ ا ل صّ َالِحَا تِ فَأُ وْلَا ئِكَ لَهُمُ ا ل دَّرَ جَا تُ ا لْعُلاَ Jann ā tu `Ad nin Taj r ī Min Taĥtihā A l-'Anhā ru Kh ālidī na Fīhā ۚ Wa Dh alika Jazā 'u Man Tazakká 020-076* the gardens of Eden through which rivers flow, to live in for ever. That will be the reward for anyone who becomes purified. (IV) جَنّ َا تُ عَد ْنٍ تَج ْر ِي مِن ْ تَحْتِهَا ا لأَنْهَا رُ خَ الِدِي نَ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَلِكَ جَزَا ءُ مَن ْ تَزَكَّى Wa Laq ad 'Awĥaynā 'Ilá Mūsá 'An 'Asr i Bi`ibādī Fāđr ib Lahum Ţ ar īq āan Fī A l-Baĥr i Yabasāan Lā Takh ā fu Dara kāan Wa Lā Takh sh á 020-077* We inspired Moses [as follows]: "Travel with My servants at night and open up a dry road through the sea for them. Do not fear being overtaken nor dread anything." وَلَقَ د ْ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنْ أَسْر ِ بِعِبَادِي فَا ضْ ر ِب ْ لَهُمْ طَ ر ِيق ا ً فِي ا لْبَحْر ِ يَبَسا ً لاَ تَخ َا فُ دَرَ كا ً وَلاَ تَخْ شَى Fa'atba`ahum Fir `awnu Bijunūdihi Fagh ash iyahum Mina A l-Yamm i Mā Gh ash iyahum 020-078* Pharaoh had them pursued by his troops, and the flood overwhelmed them as only it could overwhelm them. فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِه ِ ِ فَغَ شِيَهُم ْ مِنَ ا لْيَمّ ِ مَا غَ شِيَهُمْ Wa 'Ađalla Fir `awnu Q awmahu Wa Mā Had á 020-079* Pharaoh led his folk astray and did not guide [them]. وَأَضَ لَّ فِرْعَوْنُ قَ وْمَه ُ وَمَا هَدَى Yā Banī 'Isrā 'ī la Q ad 'An jaynākum Min `Adūwikum Wa Wā`ad nākum Jāniba A ţ -Ţ ū r i A l-'Aymana Wa Nazzalnā `Alaykumu A l-Mann a Wa A s-Salwá 020-080* Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy and made an appointment for you on the right side of the Mountain, and sent down manna and quail for you. يَابَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ قَ د ْ أَن جَيْنَاكُم ْ مِنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَوَاعَد ْنَاكُمْ جَانِبَ ا ل طّ ُو ر ِ ا لأَيْمَنَ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ا لْمَنّ َ وَا ل سَّلْوَى Kulū Min Ţ ayyibā ti Mā Ra zaq nākum Wa Lā Taţ gh aw Fī hi Fayaĥilla `Alaykum Gh ađabī ۖ Wa Man Yaĥlil `Alayhi Gh ađabī Faq ad Hawá 020-081* "Eat some of the wholesome things We have provided you with and do not act arrogantly while doing so, lest My anger light upon you; anyone My anger lights upon will surely collapse. كُلُوا مِن ْ طَ يِّبَا تِ مَا رَ زَق ْنَاكُمْ وَلاَ تَط ْغَ وْا فِي ه ِ ِ فَيَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَ ضَ بِي ۖ وَمَن ْ يَحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَ ضَ بِي فَقَ د ْ هَوَى Wa 'Inn ī Lagh affā ru n Liman Tā ba Wa 'Ā mana Wa `Amila Ş āliĥāan Th umm a A htad á 020-082* Yet I am quite Forgiving towards anyone who turns (in repentance) and believes, and acts honorably; then he will be guided." وَإِنّ ِي لَغَ فَّا رٌ لِمَن ْ تَا بَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَ ال ِحا ً ثُمّ َ ا هْتَدَى Wa Mā 'A`jalaka `An Q awmika Yā Mūsá 020-083* "Whatever made you hurry away from your people, Moses?" وَمَا أَعْجَلَكَ عَن ْ قَ وْمِكَ يَامُوسَى Q ā la Hum 'Ū lā 'i `Alá 'Ath ar ī Wa `Ajiltu 'Ilayka Ra b bi Litarđá 020-084* He said: "They were close upon my tracks, while I have hastened to You, my Lord, so You may feel pleased." ق َا لَ هُمْ أُ ولاَءِ عَلَى أَثَر ِي وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَ بِّ لِتَرْضَ ى Q ā la Fa'inn ā Q ad Fatann ā Q awmaka Min Ba`dika Wa 'Ađallahumu A s-Sāmir ī yu 020-085* He said: "We have tested your folk in your absence and the Samaritan has led them astray." ق َا لَ فَإِنّ َا قَ د ْ فَتَنّ َا قَ وْمَكَ مِن ْ بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَ لَّهُمُ ا ل سَّامِر ِيُّ Fara ja`a Mūsá 'Ilá Q awmihi Gh ađbā na 'Asifāan ۚ Q ā la Yā Q awmi 'Alam Ya`id kum Ra b bukum Wa`dāan Ĥasanāan ۚ 'Afaţ ā la `Alaykumu A l-`Ahdu 'Am 'Ara d tum 'An Yaĥilla `Alaykum Gh ađabun Min Ra b bikum Fa'akh laftum Maw`idī 020-086* Moses returned to his people angry, sorrowful. He said: "My folk, did your Lord not make you a handsome promise? Did the agreement seem too long in reaching you, or did you want anger from your Lord to settle upon you, so that you broke the appointment to meet Me?" فَرَ جَعَ مُوسَى إِلَى قَ وْمِه ِ ِ غَ ضْ بَا نَ أَسِفا ً ۚ ق َا لَ يَاقَ وْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِد ْكُمْ رَ بُّكُمْ وَعْدا ً حَسَنا ً أَفَط َا لَ ۚ عَلَيْكُمُ ا لْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَ د ْتُمْ أَن ْ يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَ ضَ بٌ مِن ْ رَ بِّكُمْ فَأَخْ لَفْتُم ْ مَوْعِدِي Q ālū Mā 'Akh lafnā Maw`idaka Bimalkinā Wa Lakinn ā Ĥumm ilnā 'Awzārā an Min Zīnati A l-Q awmi Faq adh afnāhā Fakadh alika 'Alq á A s-Sāmir ī yu 020-087* They said: "We did not break your appointment of our own accord, but we had to carry loads of the people's ornaments and toss them [into a furnace]. That is what the Samaritan suggested." قَ الُوا مَا أَخْ لَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَكِنّ َا حُمّ ِلْنَا أَوْزَارا ً مِن ْ زِينَةِ ا لْقَ وْمِ فَقَ ذَفْنَاهَا فَكَذَلِكَ أَلْقَ ى ا ل سَّامِر ِيُّ Fa'akh ra ja Lahum `Ij lāan Jasadāan Lahu Kh uwā ru n Faq ālū Hādh ā 'Ilahukum Wa 'Ilahu Mūsá Fanasiya 020-088* He produced a calf for them in the shape of a body that mooed. They said: "This is your god, the god of Moses; he has forgotten [it]." فَأَخْ رَ جَ لَهُمْ عِج ْلا ً جَسَدا ً لَه ُ خُ وَا ر ٌ فَقَ الُوا هَذَا إِلَهُكُمْ وَإِلَه ُ مُوسَى فَنَسِيَ 'Afalā Yara wna 'Allā Yarji`u 'Ilayhim Q awlāan Wa Lā Yam liku Lahum Đ arrā an Wa Lā Naf`āan 020-089* Did they not consider it would not talk back to them, nor control any harm or advantage for them? (V) أَفَلاَ يَرَ وْنَ أَلاَّ يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَ وْلا ً وَلاَ يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَ رّا ً وَلاَ نَفْعا ً Wa Laq ad Q ā la Lahum Hārū nu Min Q ab lu Yā Q awmi 'Inn amā Futin tum Bihi ۖ Wa 'Inn a Ra b bakumu A r-Ra ĥmā nu Fa A ttabi`ūnī Wa 'Aţ ī`ū 'Am r ī 020-090* Now Aaron had already told them: "My people, you are only being tested by means of it. Your Lord is the Mercy-giving, so follow me and obey my command!" وَلَقَ د ْ ق َا لَ لَهُمْ هَارُو نُ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلُ يَاقَ وْمِ إِنّ َمَا فُتِن تُم ْ بِه ِ ِ وَإِنّ َ ۖ رَ بَّكُمُ ا ل رَّحْمَنُ فَا تَّبِعُونِي وَأَطِ يعُو ا أَمْر ِي Q ālū Lan Nab ra ĥa `Alayhi `Ākifī na Ĥattá Yarji`a 'Ilaynā Mūsá 020-091* They said: "We will never quit being devoted to it until Moses returns to us." قَ الُوا لَن ْ نَب ْرَ حَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفِي نَ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَى Q ā la Yā Hārū nu Mā Mana`aka 'Idh Ra 'aytahum Đ allū 020-092* He said: "Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw they had strayed ق َا لَ يَاهَارُو نُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَ أَيْتَهُمْ ضَ لُّوا 'Allā Tattabi`anī ۖ 'Afa`aş ayta 'Am r ī 020-093* from having them follow me? Did you disobey my order?" أَلاَّ تَتَّبِعَنِي ۖ أَفَعَصَ يْتَ أَمْر ِي Q ā la Yab na'uumm a Lā Ta'kh udh Biliĥyatī Wa Lā Bira 'sī 'Inn ī Kh ash ī tu ۖ 'An Taq ū la Farra q ta Bayna Banī 'Isrā 'ī la Wa Lam Tarq ub Q awlī 020-094* He said: "My (blood) brother, do not seize me by my beard nor by my head! I dreaded you would say: 'You have brought dissension to the Children of Israel and did not observe what I said."' ق َا لَ يَب ْنَؤُمّ َ لاَ تَأْخُ ذْ بِلِحْيَتِي وَلاَ بِرَ أْسِي إِنّ ِي خَ شِي تُ ۖ أَن ْ تَق ُو لَ فَرَّق ْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُ ب ْ قَ وْلِي Q ā la Famā Kh aţ buka Yā Sāmir ī yu 020-095* He said: "What have you been trying to do, 0 Samaritan?" ق َا لَ فَمَا خَ ط ْبُكَ يَاسَامِر ِيُّ Q ā la Baş urtu Bimā Lam Yab ş urū Bihi Faq abađtu Q ab đatan Min 'Ath ar i A r-Ra sū li Fanabadh tuhā Wa Kadh alika Sawwalat Lī Nafsī 020-096* He said: "I noticed something they do not notice, so I snatched a handful from the messenger's footprints and flung it away. Thus my soul has lured me on." The Samaritan Untouchable ق َا لَ بَصُ رْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَب ْصُ رُوا بِه ِ ِ فَقَ بَضْ تُ قَ ب ْضَ ة ً مِنْ أَثَر ِ ا ل رَّسُو لِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِي نَفْسِي Q ā la Fādh /hab Fa'inn a Laka Fī A l-Ĥayāati 'An Taq ū la Lā Misā sa ۖ Wa 'Inn a Laka Maw`idāan Lan Tukh lafahu ۖ Wa A n žur 'Ilá 'Ilahika A l-Ladh ī Ž alta `Alayhi `Ākifāan ۖ Lanuĥarr iq ann ahu Th umm a Lanan sifann ahu Fī A l-Yamm i Nasfāan 020-097* He said: "Go away! During your lifetime you will say: 'Dont touch [me]!' You have an appointment [for your torment] which will not be broken. Look at your god which you have become so devoted to: we shall burn it up, then scatter its remains in the flood." ق َا لَ فَا ذْهَب ْ فَإِنّ َ لَكَ فِي ا لْحَيَا ةِ أَن ْ تَق ُو لَ لاَ مِسَا سَ ۖ وَإِنّ َ لَكَ مَوْعِدا ً لَن ْ تُخْ لَفَه ُ ۖ وَا ن ظُ رْ إِلَى إِلَهِكَ ا لَّذِي ظَ لْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفا ً ۖ لَنُحَرِّقَ نّ َه ُ ثُمّ َ لَنَن سِفَنّ َه ُ فِي ا لْيَمّ ِ نَسْفا ً 'Inn amā 'Ilahukumu A l-Lahu A l-Ladh ī Lā 'Ilā ha 'Illā Huwa ۚ Wasi`a Kulla Sh ay'in `Ilmāan 020-098* Your God is God [Alone]; there is no other deity than Him! He is Vaster than everything in knowledge. إِنّ َمَا إِلَهُكُمُ ا ل لَّهُ ا لَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْما ً Kadh ālika Naq uş ş u `Alayka Min 'An bā 'i Mā Q ad Sabaq a ۚ Wa Q ad 'Ā taynā ka Min Ladunn ā Dh ikrā an 020-099* Thus We relate some news to you about what has occurred previously; We have even brought you a Reminder from Our very presence. كَذَلِكَ نَقُ صّ ُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَن ْبَا ءِ مَا قَ د ْ سَبَقَ ۚ وَقَ د ْ آتَيْنَا كَ مِن ْ لَدُنّ َا ذِكْرا ً Man 'A`ra đa `Anhu Fa'inn ahu Yaĥmilu Yawma A l-Q iyāmati Wizrā an 020-100* Anyone who evades it will bear a burden on Resurrection Day مَنْ أَعْرَ ضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنّ َه ُ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ ا لْقِ يَامَةِ وِزْرا ً Kh ālidī na Fī hi ۖ Wa Sā 'a Lahum Yawma A l-Q iyāmati Ĥim lāan 020-101* which he will remain with. Evil will be such a load for them on Resurrection Day , خَ الِدِي نَ فِي ه ِ ِ ۖ وَسَا ءَ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ ا لْقِ يَامَةِ حِمْلا ً Yawma Yun fakh u Fī A ş -Ş ū r i ۚ Wa Naĥsh uru A l-Muj r imī na Yawma'idh in Zurq āan 020-102* the day when the Trumpet shall be blown. We shall summon bleary-eyed criminals on that day. يَوْمَ يُن ْفَخُ فِي ا ل صّ ُو ر ِ ۚ وَنَحْشُرُ ا لْمُج ْر ِمِي نَ يَوْمَئِذٍ زُرْق ا ً Yatakh āfatū na Baynahum 'In Labith tum 'Illā `Ash rā an 020-103* They will mutter to one another: "Did you only stay away ten [days]?" يَتَخَ افَتُو نَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِن ْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلاَّ عَشْرا ً Naĥnu 'A`lamu Bimā Yaq ūlū na 'Idh Yaq ū lu 'Am th aluhum Ţ ar īq atan 'In Labith tum 'Illā Yawmāan 020-104* We are quite Aware of what they will say when the best behaved among them will say,. "You have only stayed away a day!" Resurrection Day (VI) نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُ ولُو نَ إِذْ يَق ُو لُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ طَ ر ِيقَ ة ً إِن ْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلاَّ يَوْما ً Wa Yas'alūnaka `Ani A l-Jibā li Faq ul Yan sifuhā Ra b bī Nasfāan 020-105* They will ask you about the mountains, SO SAY: "My Lord will crumble them into powder وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ ا لْجِبَا لِ فَقُ لْ يَن سِفُهَا رَ بِّي نَسْفا ً Fayadh aru hā Q ā`āan Ş afş afāan 020-106* and leave them as flat as a prairie. فَيَذَرُهَا قَ اعا ً صَ فْصَ فا ً Lā Tará Fīhā `Iwajāan Wa Lā 'Am tāan 020-107* You will see no rough spots nor any unevenness on them. لاَ تَرَ ى فِيهَا عِوَجا ً وَلاَ أَمْتا ً Yawma'idh in Yattabi`ū na A d -Dā`ī Lā `Iwaja Lahu ۖ Wa Kh ash a`ati A l-'Aş wā tu Lilrra ĥmani Falā Tasma`u 'Illā Ham sāan 020-108* On that day they will follow the Crier who has no crookedness in him either; their voices will be hushed before the Mercy-giving and you will hear only [people] shuffling past. يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَّبِعُو نَ ا ل دَّاعِي لاَ عِوَجَ لَه ُ ۖ وَخَ شَعَتِ ا لأَصْ وَا تُ لِلرَّحْمَنِ فَلاَ تَسْمَعُ إِلاَّ هَمْسا ً Yawma'idh in Lā Tan fa`u A sh -Sh afā`atu 'Illā Man 'Adh ina Lahu A r-Ra ĥmā nu Wa Ra điya Lahu Q awlāan 020-109* On that day intercession will only benefit someone whom the Mercygiving has permitted to enjoy it, and whose statement has pleased Him. يَوْمَئِذٍ لاَ تَن فَعُ ا ل شَّفَاعَةُ إِلاَّ مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ا ل رَّحْمَنُ وَرَ ضِ يَ لَه ُ قَ وْلا ً Ya`lamu Mā Bayna 'Aydīhim Wa Mā Kh alfahum Wa Lā Yuĥīţ ū na Bihi `Ilmāan 020-110* He knows what lies in front of them and what is behind them, while they do not embrace any knowledge about Him. يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَ لْفَهُمْ وَلاَ يُحِيط ُو نَ بِه ِ ِ عِلْما ً Wa `Anati A l-Wujū hu Lilĥayyi A l-Q ayyū mi ۖ Wa Q ad Kh ā ba Man Ĥamala Ž ulmāan 020-111* Faces will seem downcast before the Living, the Eternal, and anyone who carries a load of harm will have blundered, وَعَنَتِ ا لْوُجُو ه ُ لِلْحَيِّ ا لْقَ يُّو مِ ۖ وَقَ د ْ خ َا بَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُ لْما ً Wa Man Ya`mal Mina A ş -Ş āliĥā ti Wa Huwa Mu'uminun Falā Yakh ā fu Ž ulmāan Wa Lā Hađmāan 020-112* while anyone who has performed honorable deeds and is a believer will need fear no harm nor any injustice. وَمَن ْ يَعْمَلْ مِنَ ا ل صّ َالِحَا تِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِن ٌ فَلاَ يَخ َا فُ ظُ لْما ً وَلاَ هَضْ ما ً Wa Kadh alika 'An zalnā hu Q ur'ā nāan `Ara bīyāan Wa Ş arra fnā Fī hi Mina A l-Wa`ī di La`allahum Yattaq ū na 'Aw Yuĥdith u Lahum Dh ikrā an 020-113* Thus We have sent it down as an Arabic reading and set forth some of the Threat in it so that they may do their duty, or so it will arouse them to remember. وَكَذَلِكَ أَن زَلْنَا ه ُ قُ رْآنا ً عَرَ بِيّا ً وَصَ رَّفْنَا فِي ه ِ ِ مِنَ ا لْوَعِي دِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّق ُو نَ أَوْ يُحْدِثُ لَهُمْ ذِكْرا ً Fata`ālá A l-Lahu A l-Maliku A l-Ĥaq q u ۗ Wa Lā Ta`jal Bil-Q ur'ā ni Min Q ab li 'An Yuq đá 'Ilayka Waĥyuhu ۖ Wa Q ul Ra b bi Zid nī `Ilmāan 020-114* Exalted is God, the True Controller! How to Read the Quran Do not hurry while reading [the Quran] before its revelation has been accomplished for you, and [rather] SAY: "My Lord, increase me in knowledge!" Adam's Fall فَتَعَالَى ا ل لَّهُ ا لْمَلِكُ ا لْحَقّ ُ ۗ وَلاَ تَعْجَلْ بِا لْقُ رْآنِ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلِ أَن ْ يُق ْضَ ى إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُه ُ ۖ وَقُ لْ رَ بِّ زِد ْنِي عِلْما ً Wa Laq ad `Ahid nā 'Ilá 'Ā dama Min Q ab lu Fanasiya Wa Lam Najid Lahu `Azmāan 020-115* We had already made a pledge with Adam which he forgot. We found he had no determination. (VII) وَلَقَ د ْ عَهِد ْنَا إِلَى آدَمَ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلُ فَنَسِيَ وَلَمْ نَجِد ْ لَه ُ عَزْما ً Wa 'Idh Q ulnā Lilmalā 'ikati A sjudū Li'dama Fasajadū 'Illā 'Ib lī sa 'Ab á 020-116* When We told the angels: "Bow down on your knees before Adam," they [all] knelt down except for Diabolis; he refused [to do so]. وَإِذْ قُ لْنَا لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ ا سْجُدُوا لِأدَمَ فَسَجَدُو ا إِلاَّ إِب ْلِي سَ أَبَى Faq ulnā Yā 'Ā damu 'Inn a Hādh ā `Adū wun Laka Wa Lizawjika Falā Yukh r ijann akumā Mina A l-Jann ati Fatash q á 020-117* We said: "Adam, this is an enemy for both you and your wife. Do not let him turn either of you out of the Garden, so you will regret it. فَقُ لْنَا يَاآدَمُ إِنّ َ هَذَا عَدُوٌّ لَكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ فَلاَ يُخْ ر ِجَنّ َكُمَا مِنَ ا لْجَنّ َةِ فَتَشْقَ ى 'Inn a Laka 'Allā Tajū `a Fīhā Wa Lā Ta`rá 020-118* You have so much in it that you need go neither hungry nor naked; إِنّ َ لَكَ أَلاَّ تَجُو عَ فِيهَا وَلاَ تَعْرَ ى Wa 'Ann aka Lā Tažma'u Fīhā Wa Lā Tađĥá 020-119* you will neither thirst there nor fell sunstruck." وَأَنّ َكَ لاَ تَظْ مَأُ فِيهَا وَلاَ تَضْ حَى Fawaswasa 'Ilayhi A sh -Sh ayţ ā nu Q ā la Yā 'Ā damu Hal 'Adulluka `Alá Sh ajara ti A l-Kh uldi Wa Mulkin Lā Yab lá 020-120* Satan whispered to him; he said: "Adam, shall I lead you to the Tree of Immortality and such control as will never disappear?" فَوَسْوَسَ إِلَيْهِ ا ل شَّيْط َا نُ ق َا لَ يَاآدَمُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى شَجَرَ ةِ ا لْخُ لْدِ وَمُلْك ٍ لاَ يَب ْلَى Fa'akalā Minhā Fabadat Lahumā Saw'ā tuhumā Wa Ţ afiq ā Yakh ş ifā ni `Alayhimā Min Wara q i A l-Jann ati ۚ Wa `Aş á 'Ā damu Ra b bahu Fagh awá 020-121* So they both ate some of it, and their private parts became apparent to them. They set to patching themselves over with leaves from the Garden. Adam had disobeyed his Lord and was misled! فَأَكَلاَ مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَ فِقَ ا يَخْ صِ فَا نِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن ْ وَرَ قِ ا لْجَنّ َةِ ۚ وَعَصَ ى آدَمُ رَ بَّه ُ فَغَ وَى Th umm a A j tabā hu Ra b buhu Fatā ba `Alayhi Wa Had á 020-122* Later on his Lord chose him, and He relented towards him and guided [him]. ثُمّ َ ا ج ْتَبَا ه ُ رَ بُّه ُ فَتَا بَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَى Q ā la A hbiţ ā Minhā Jamī`āan ۖ Ba`đukum Liba`đin `Adū wun ۖ Fa'imm ā Ya'tiyann akum Minn ī Hud áan Famani A ttaba`a Hudā ya Falā Yađillu Wa Lā Yash q á 020-123* He said: "Clear out of here, both of you together! Some of you [will become] enemies of others. Should guidance ever come to you from Me, no one who follows My guidance shall ever stray away nor regret it; ق َا لَ ا هْبِطَ ا مِنْهَا جَمِيعا ً ۖ بَعْضُ كُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ فَإِمّ َا يَأْتِيَنّ َكُم ْ مِنّ ِي هُدى ً فَمَنِ ا تَّبَعَ هُدَا يَ فَلاَ يَضِ لُّ وَلاَ يَشْقَ ى Wa Man 'A`ra đa `An Dh ikr ī Fa'inn a Lahu Ma`īsh atan Đ an kāan Wa Naĥsh uru hu Yawma A l-Q iyāmati 'A`m á 020-124* while anyone who fails to remember Me will have a meager living and We shall summon him as a blind person on Resurrection Day . وَمَنْ أَعْرَ ضَ عَن ْ ذِكْر ِي فَإِنّ َ لَه ُ مَعِيشَة ً ضَ ن كا ً وَنَحْشُرُه ُ يَوْمَ ا لْقِ يَامَةِ أَعْمَى Q ā la Ra b bi Lima Ĥash artanī 'A`m á Wa Q ad Kun tu Baş īrā an 020-125* He will say: "My Lord, why have you summoned me as a blind person when was I sighted?" ق َا لَ رَ بِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِي أَعْمَى وَقَ د ْ كُن تُ بَصِ يرا ً Q ā la Kadh ālika 'Atatka 'Ā yātunā Fanasītahā ۖ Wa Kadh alika A l-Yawma Tun sá 020-126* He will say: "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; that is why you have been forgotten today."' ق َا لَ كَذَلِكَ أَتَتْكَ آيَاتُنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا ۖ وَكَذَلِكَ ا لْيَوْمَ تُن سَى Wa Kadh alika Naj zī Man 'Asra fa Wa Lam Yu'umin Bi'ā yā ti Ra b bihi ۚ Wa La`adh ā bu A l-'Ā kh ira ti 'Ash ad du Wa 'Ab q á 020-127* Thus We reward anyone who overdoes things and does not believe in his Lord's signs. Torment in the Hereafter will be even more severe and everlasting. وَكَذَلِكَ نَج ْزِي مَنْ أَسْرَ فَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِن ْ بِآيَا تِ رَ بِّه ِ ِ ۚ وَلَعَذَا بُ ا لآخِ رَ ةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَب ْقَ ى 'Afalam Yahdi Lahum Kam 'Ahlaknā Q ab lahum Mina A l-Q urū ni Yam sh ū na Fī Masākinihim ۗ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yā tin Li'wlī A n -Nuhá 020-128* Did it not guide them [to see] how many generations We had wiped out before them whose dwellings they walk around in? In that are signs for persons who are wary. (VIII) أَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَ ب ْلَهُم ْ مِنَ ا لْقُ رُو نِ يَمْشُو نَ فِي مَسَاكِنِهِمْ ۗ إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَا تٍ لِأوْلِي ا ل نّ ُهَى Wa Lawlā Kalimatun Sabaq at Min Ra b bika Lakā na Lizāmāan Wa 'Ajalun Musamm áan 020-129* If word had not already gone ahead from your Lord, it would have been made compulsory and a deadline set. Times for Prayer وَلَوْلاَ كَلِمَة ٌ سَبَقَ تْ مِن ْ رَ بِّكَ لَكَا نَ لِزَاما ً وَأَجَلٌ مُسَمّ ى ً Fāş bir `Alá Mā Yaq ūlū na Wa Sab biĥ Biĥam di Ra b bika Q ab la Ţ ulū `i A sh -Sh am si Wa Q ab la Gh urūbihā ۖ Wa Min 'Ā nā 'i A l-Layli Fasab biĥ Wa 'Aţ rā fa A n -Nahā r i La`allaka Tarđá 020-130* So be patient about anything they may say and hymn your Lord's praise before the sun's rise and before its setting, and in the small hours of the night. Hymn it as well at the ends of the day so that you may meet approval. فَا صْ بِرْ عَلَى مَا يَقُ ولُو نَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَ بِّكَ قَ ب ْلَ طُ لُو عِ ا ل شَّمْسِ وَقَ ب ْلَ غُ رُوبِهَا ۖ وَمِن ْ آنَا ءِ ا ل لَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْ وَأَط ْرَا فَ ا ل نّ َهَا ر ِ لَعَلَّكَ تَرْضَ ى Wa Lā Tamud dann a `Aynayka 'Ilá Mā Matta`nā Bihi 'Azwājāan Minhum Zahra ta A l-Ĥayāati A d -Dun yā Linaftinahum Fī hi ۚ Wa R izq u Ra b bika Kh ayru n Wa 'Ab q á 020-131* Do not strain your eyes towards what We let some types of them enjoy, the blossoming of worldly life, so We may test them by means of it. Your Lord's provision is better and more lasting. Family Worship وَلاَ تَمُدَّنّ َ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَى مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجا ً مِنْهُمْ زَهْرَ ةَ ا لْحَيَا ةِ ا ل دُّن يَا لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِي ه ِ ِ ۚ وَر ِزْقُ رَ بِّكَ خَ يْرٌ وَأَب ْقَ ى Wa 'Mur 'Ahlaka Biş -Ş alāati Wa A ş ţ abir `Alayhā ۖ Lā Nas'aluka R izq āan ۖ Naĥnu Narzuq uka Wa ۗ A l-`Āq ibatu Lilttaq wá 020-132* Order your household to pray and to discipline themselves by means of it. We do not ask you for any provision; yet We will provide for you, and the outcome rests on doing your duty. وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِا ل صّ َلاَةِ وَا صْ طَ بِرْ عَلَيْهَا ۖ لاَ نَسْأَلُكَ ر ِزْق ا ً ۖ نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُ كَ ۗ وَا لْعَاقِ بَةُ لِلتَّق ْوَى Wa Q ālū Lawlā Ya'tīnā Bi'ā yatin Min Ra b bihi ۚ 'Awalam Ta'tihim Bayyinatu Mā Fī A ş -Ş uĥufi A l-'Ū lá 020-133* They say: "If he would only bring us some sign from his Lord!" Has not evidence already reached them about what was in the early scriptures? وَقَ الُوا لَوْلاَ يَأْتِينَا بِآيَةٍ مِن ْ رَ بِّهِ ۚ أَوَلَمْ تَأْتِهِم ْ بَيِّنَةُ مَا فِي ا ل صّ ُحُفِ ا لأُ ولَى Wa Law 'Ann ā 'Ahlaknāhum Bi`adh ā bin Min Q ab lihi Laq ālū Ra b banā Lawlā 'Arsalta 'Ilaynā Ra sūlāan Fanattabi`a 'Ā yātika Min Q ab li 'An Nadh illa Wa Nakh zá 020-134* If We were to wipe them out ahead of time with torment, they would say: "Our Lord, if You had only sent us a messenger, we would have followed Your signs before we were humbled and disgraced." وَلَوْ أَنّ َا أَهْلَكْنَاهُم ْ بِعَذَا بٍ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلِه ِ ِ لَقَ الُوا رَ بَّنَا لَوْلاَ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَ سُولا ً فَنَتَّبِعَ آيَاتِكَ مِن ْ قَ ب ْلِ أَن ْ نَذِلَّ وَنَخْ زَى Q ul Kullun Mutara b biş un Fatara b baş ū ۖ Fasata`lamū na Man 'Aş ĥā bu A ş -Ş irā ţ i A s-Sawī yi Wa Mani A htad á 020-135* SAY: "Everyone lives in expectation, so be on the lookout! You will know who are [your] companions along the Level Road and who has been guided. PART SEVENTEEN قُ لْ كُلٌّ مُتَرَ بِّص ٌ فَتَرَ بَّصُ وا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُو نَ مَنْ أَصْ حَا بُ ا ل صّ ِرَا طِ ا ل سَّوِيِّ وَمَنِ ا هْتَدَى Next Sūrah
