| THESE 43 Verses arranged in six sections are mostly late Meccan, although some date from Madina. The chapter was revealed after Muhammad 47 and before The Mercy-giving 55. It has A.L.M.R. for its initials, almost like the second, third and twenty-ninth to thirty-second chapters. The law of consequences is stated here, and in section III we are told who will go to Heaven and who to Hell. We are warned against other failings that may lead us astray. | 'Alif-Lām-Mīm-Rā Tilka 'Āyātu Al-Kitābi Wa Al-Ladhī ۚ 'Unzila 'Ilayka Min ۗ Rabbika Al-Ĥaqqu Wa Lakinna 'Akthara An-Nāsi Lā Yu'uminūna | 013-001* A. L. M. R. These are verses from the Book; what has been sent down to you by your Lord is the Truth, even though most men do not believe so. | أَلِف-لَام-مِيم-رَا تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَالَّذِي ۚ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ ۗ رَبِّكَ الْحَقُّ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ |
| Al-Lahu Al-Ladhī Rafa`a As-Samāwāti Bighayri `Amadin Tarawnahā ۖ Thumma Astawá `Alá Al-`Arshi ۖ Wa Sakhkhara Ash-Shamsa Wa Al-Qamara ۖ Kullun Yajrī Li'jalin Musammáan ۚ Yudabbiru Al-'Amra Yufaşşilu Al-'Āyāti La`allakum Biliqā'i Rabbikum Tūqinūna | 013-002* God is the One Who has raised up the Heavens without any support you can see. Then He mounted on the Throne and regulated the sun and moon; each runs along on a specific course. He directs the matter; He manifests signs so that you may be convinced about meeting your Lord. | اللَّهُ الَّذِي رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ يَجْرِي لِأجَلٍ مُسَمّى ً ۚ يُدَبِّرُ الأَمْرَ يُفَصِّلُ الآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّكُمْ تُوقِنُونَ |
| Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Madda Al-'Arđa Wa Ja`ala Fīhā Rawāsiya Wa 'Anhārāan ۖ Wa Min Kulli Ath-Thamarāti Ja`ala Fīhā Zawjayni Athnayni ۖ Yughshī Al-Layla An-Nahāra ۚ 'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyātin Liqawmin Yatafakkarūna | 013-003* He is the One Who has spread the earth out and placed headlands and rivers on it, and has placed two pairs for every kind of fruit on it. He wraps daylight up in night. In that are signs for folk who meditate. | وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارا ً ۖ وَمِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ جَعَلَ فِيهَا زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ ۖ يُغْشِي اللَّيْلَ النَّهَارَ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ |
| Wa Fī Al-'Arđi Qiţa`un Mutajāwirātun Wa Jannātun Min 'A`nābin Wa Zar`un Wa Nakhīlun Şinwānun Wa Ghayru Şinwānin Yusqá Bimā'in Wāĥidin Wa Nufađđilu Ba`đahā `Alá Ba`đin Fī Al-'Ukuli ۚ 'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyātin Liqawmin Ya`qilūna | 013-004* On the earth are neighboring tracts, and vineyards, cultivated fields and datepalms, [growing] in clumps and all alone, watered from a single source. We make some of them excel others in food value. In that are signs for folk who use their reason. | وَفِي الأَرْضِ قِطَعٌ مُتَجَاوِرَاتٌ وَجَنَّاتٌ مِنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَزَرْعٌ وَنَخِيلٌ صِنْوَانٌ وَغَيْرُ صِنْوَانٍ يُسْقَى بِمَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي الأُكُلِ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ |
| Wa 'In Ta`jab Fa`ajabun Qawluhum 'A'idhā Kunnā Turābāan 'A'innā Lafī Khalqin Jadīdin ۗ 'Ūlā'ika Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Birabbihim ۖ Wa 'Ūlā'ika Al-'Aghlālu Fī 'A`nāqihim ۖ Wa 'Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu An-Nāri ۖ Hum Fīhā Khālidūna | 013-005* If you should feel astonished, then how much more astonishing is their statement: "When we have become dust, shall we [end up] in some fresh creation?" Those are the ones who disbelieve in their Lord; such (persons) will have fetters [placed] around their necks and those will become inmates of the Fire, to live there for ever. | وَإِنْ تَعْجَبْ فَعَجَبٌ قَوْلُهُمْ أَئِذَا كُنَّا تُرَابا ً أَئِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۗ أُوْلَائِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُوْلَائِكَ الأَغْلاَلُ فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ وَأُوْلَائِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ |
| Wa Yasta`jilūnaka Bis-Sayyi'ati Qabla Al-Ĥasanati Wa Qad Khalat Min Qablihimu Al-Mathulātu ۗ Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Ladhū Maghfiratin Lilnnāsi `Alá Žulmihim ۖ Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lashadīdu Al-`Iqābi | 013-006* They want to hasten you on to commit evil rather than [to perform] a fine deed. Examples have already been set before them. Your Lord possesses forgiveness for mankind, no matter how wrong they are; though your Lord still is Stern with punishment. | وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمُ الْمَثُلاَتُ ۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ |
| Wa Yaqūlu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Lawlā 'Unzila `Alayhi 'Āyatun Min Rabbihi ۗ 'Innamā 'Anta Mundhirun ۖ Wa Likulli Qawmin Hādin | 013-007* Those who disbelieve say: "If only a sign were sent down from his Lord!" Yet you are only a warner; each folk has a guide. God the All-Knowing (II) | وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلاَ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ ۗ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ |
| Al-Lahu Ya`lamu Mā Taĥmilu Kullu 'Unthá Wa Mā Taghīđu Al-'Arĥāmu Wa Mā Tazdādu ۖ Wa Kullu Shay'in `Indahu Bimiqdārin | 013-008* God knows what every female bears, and how some wombs may miscarry or else may wait too long. Everything has its measure with Him; | اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَحْمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَى وَمَا تَغِيضُ الأَرْحَامُ وَمَا تَزْدَادُ ۖ وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عِنْدَه ُ بِمِقْدَارٍ |
| `Ālimu Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Al-Kabīru Al-Muta`ālī | 013-009* Knowing the Unseen and the Visible, [He is] the Great, the Exalted! | عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ الْكَبِيرُ الْمُتَعَالِي |
| Sawā'un Minkum Man 'Asarra Al-Qawla Wa Man Jahara Bihi Wa Man Huwa Mustakhfin Bil-Layli Wa Sāribun Bin-Nahāri | 013-010* It is all the same for you whether one of you is secretive about what he says or speaks out about it, and whether one keeps to himself night and struts around by day: | سَوَاءٌ مِنْكُمْ مَنْ أَسَرَّ الْقَوْلَ وَمَنْ جَهَرَ بِه ِِ وَمَنْ هُوَ مُسْتَخْف ٍ بِاللَّيْلِ وَسَارِب ٌ بِالنَّهَارِ |
| Lahu Mu`aqqibātun Min Bayni Yadayhi Wa Min Khalfihi Yaĥfažūnahu Min 'Amri Al-Lahi ۗ 'Inna Al-Laha Lā Yughayyiru Mā Biqawmin Ĥattá Yughayyirū Mā Bi'anfusihim ۗ Wa 'Idhā 'Arāda Al-Lahu Biqawmin Sū'āan Falā Maradda Lahu ۚ Wa Mā Lahum Min Dūnihi Min Wa A- | 013-011* he has [angels] checking from both before him and behind him; they guard him at God's command. God does not change what any people may have until they change whatever they themselves have. Whenever God wants something bad [to happen] to any people, there is no way to avert it nor have they any patron except for Him. | لَه ُ مُعَقِّبَاتٌ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِه ِِ يَحْفَظُونَه ُ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ سُوءا ً فَلاَ مَرَدَّ لَه ُ ۚ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِه ِِ مِنْ وَالٍ |
| Huwa Al-Ladhī Yurīkumu Al-Barqa Khawfāan Wa Ţama`āan Wa Yunshi'u As-Saĥāba Ath-Thiqāla | 013-012* He is the 0ne Who shows you lightning to inspire both fear and expectation. He whips up the heavy clouds. | هُوَ الَّذِي يُرِيكُمُ الْبَرْقَ خَوْفا ً وَطَمَعا ً وَيُنْشِئُ السَّحَابَ الثِّقَالَ |
| Wa Yusabbiĥu Ar-Ra`du Biĥamdihi Wa Al-Malā'ikatu Min Khīfatihi Wa Yursilu Aş-Şawā`iqa Fayuşību Bihā Man Yashā'u Wa Hum Yujādilūna Fī Al-Lahi Wa Huwa Shadīdu Al-Miĥāli | 013-013* Thunder hymns His praise while angels stand in awe of Him. He sends down thunderbolts and strikes anyone He wishes with them. Yet they argue on and on about God while He is Stern in strategy. The Object of Prayer; Association is Futile | وَيُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِه ِِ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِه ِِ وَيُرْسِلُ الصَّوَاعِقَ فَيُصِيبُ بِهَا مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَهُمْ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي اللَّهِ وَهُوَ شَدِيدُ الْمِحَالِ |
| Lahu Da`watu Al-Ĥaqqi Wa ۖ Al-Ladhīna Yad`ūna Min Dūnihi Lā Yastajībūna Lahum Bishay'in 'Illā Kabāsiţi Kaffayhi 'Ilá Al-Mā'i Liyablugha Fāhu Wa Mā Huwa Bibālighihi ۚ Wa Mā Du`ā'u Al-Kāfirīna 'Illā Fī Đalālin | 013-014* To Him should go the appeal for Truth; those they appeal to instead of Him will never respond to them in any way, except as someone does who stretches out his palms for water, so it may reach his mouth since he himself can never reach it. An appeal by disbelievers merely goes astray. BOW DOWN HERE | لَه ُ دَعْوَةُ الْحَقِّ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِهِ لاَ يَسْتَجِيبُونَ لَهُمْ بِشَيْءٍ إِلاَّ كَبَاسِطِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى الْمَاءِ لِيَبْلُغَ فَاه ُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَالِغِه ِِ ۚ وَمَا دُعَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ إِلاَّ فِي ضَلاَلٍ |
| Wa Lillahi Yasjudu Man Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Ţaw`āan Wa Karhāan Wa Žilāluhum Bil-Ghudūwi Wa Al-'Āşāli | 013-015* Whoever is in Heaven and Earth bows down on their knees before God obediently or grudgingly, just as their shadows do so in the morning and the evening. | وَلِلَّهِ يَسْجُدُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ طَوْعا ً وَكَرْها ً وَظِلاَلُهُمْ بِالْغُدُوِّ وَالآصَالِ |
| Qul Man Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Quli Al-Lahu ۚ Qul 'Afāttakhadhtum Min Dūnihi 'Awliyā'a Lā Yamlikūna Li'nfusihim Naf`āan Wa Lā Đarrāan ۚ Qul Hal Yastawī Al-'A`má Wa Al-Başīru 'Am Hal Tastawī Až-Žulumātu Wa An-Nūr ۗ 'Am Ja`alū Lillahi Shurakā'a Khalaqū Kakhalqihi Fatashābaha Al-Khalqu `Alayhim ۚ Quli Al-Lahu Khāliqu Kulli Shay'in Wa Huwa Al-Wāĥidu Al-Qahhāru | 013-016* SAY: 'Who is Lord of Heaven and Earth?" SAY: "God [Alone]." SAY: "Yet have you adopted patrons besides Him who control no benefit nor any harm by themselves?" SAY: "Are the blind and the sighted person equal? Or is darkness equal to light? Or have they given God associates whom they have created just as He creates, so that all creation seems just the same to them?" God Alone SAY: "God is the Creator of everything; He exists Alone, the Irresistible. Foam in Floods | قُلْ مَنْ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ قُلِ اللَّهُ ۚ قُلْ أَفَاتَّخَذْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ لاَ يَمْلِكُونَ لِأنفُسِهِمْ نَفْعا ً وَلاَ ضَرّا ً ۚ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الأَعْمَى وَالْبَصِيرُ أَمْ هَلْ تَسْتَوِي الظُّلُمَاتُ وَالنُّور ۗ أَمْ جَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ خَلَقُوا كَخَلْقِه ِِ فَتَشَابَهَ الْخَلْقُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ خَالِقُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ |
| 'Anzala Mina As-Samā'i Mā'an Fasālat 'Awdiyatun Biqadarihā Fāĥtamala As-Saylu Zabadāan Rābīāan ۚ Wa Mimmā Yūqidūna `Alayhi Fī An-Nāri Abtighā'a Ĥilyatin 'Aw Matā`in Zabadun Mithluhu ۚ Kadhālika Yađribu Al-Lahu Al-Ĥaqqa Wa Al-Bāţila ۚ Fa'ammā Az-Zabadu Fayadh/habu Jufā'an ۖ Wa 'Ammā Mā Yanfa`u An-Nāsa Fayamkuthu Fī Al-'Arđi ۚ Kadhālika Yađribu Al-Lahu Al-'Amthāla | 013-017* He sends down water from the sky so that river valleys flow according to how much there is. The torrent carries along swelling foam, foam just like what comes out of fire they have kindled to smelt jewelry or some equipment with. Even so God knocks Truth and falsehood together [to compare them]. As for the foam, the scum will go away; while whatever benefits mankind lingers on in the earth, Thus God compares things with one another. | أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاء ً فَسَالَتْ أَوْدِيَةٌ بِقَدَرِهَا فَاحْتَمَلَ السَّيْلُ زَبَدا ً رَابِيا ً ۚ وَمِمَّا يُوقِدُونَ عَلَيْهِ فِي النَّارِ ابْتِغَاءَ حِلْيَةٍ أَوْ مَتَاعٍ زَبَدٌ مِثْلُه ُ ۚ كَذَلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْحَقَّ وَالْبَاطِلَ ۚ فَأَمَّا الزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَاء ً ۖ وَأَمَّا مَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِي الأَرْضِ ۚ كَذَلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الأَمْثَالَ |
| Lilladhīna Astajābū Lirabbihimu Al-Ĥusná Wa ۚ Al-Ladhīna Lam Yastajībū Lahu Law 'Anna Lahum Mā Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Wa Mithlahu Ma`ahu Lāftadaw Bihi ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Lahum Sū'u Al-Ĥisābi Wa Ma'wāhum Jahannamu ۖ Wa Bi'sa Al-Mihādu | 013-018* Those who respond to their Lord will have the finest [reward] while those who do not respond to Him, even if they had everything on earth and the like of it besides, would never redeem themselves with it. Those will have he worst reckoning; their refuge will be Hell and how awful a resting place it is! (III) | لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُوا لِرَبِّهِمُ الْحُسْنَى ۚ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَه ُ لَوْ أَنَّ لَهُمْ مَا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعا ً وَمِثْلَه ُ مَعَهُ لاَفْتَدَوْا بِهِ ۚ أُوْلَائِكَ لَهُمْ سُوءُ الْحِسَابِ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ |
| 'Afaman Ya`lamu 'Annamā 'Unzila 'Ilayka Min Rabbika Al-Ĥaqqu Kaman Huwa 'A`má ۚ 'Innamā Yatadhakkaru 'Ūlū Al-'Albābi | 013-019* Is someone who knows how whatever has been sent down to you from your Lord is the Truth, like someone who is blind? Who Will Go to Heaven Only prudent persons bear it in mind, | أَفَمَنْ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ الْحَقُّ كَمَنْ هُوَ أَعْمَى ۚ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُوْلُوا الأَلْبَابِ |
| Al-Ladhīna Yūfūna Bi`ahdi Al-Lahi Wa Lā Yanquđūna Al-Mīthāqa | 013-020* those who fulfil God's agreement and do not break the covenant, | الَّذِينَ يُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ يَنقُضُونَ الْمِيثَاقَ |
| Wa Al-Ladhīna Yaşilūna Mā 'Amara Al-Lahu Bihi 'An Yūşala Wa Yakhshawna Rabbahum Wa Yakhāfūna Sū'a Al-Ĥisābi | 013-021* who transmit anything God has ordered to be transmitted, and dread their Lord and fear the worst reckoning, | وَالَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَنْ يُوصَلَ وَيَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوءَ الْحِسَابِ |
| Wa Al-Ladhīna Şabarū Abtighā'a Wajhi Rabbihim Wa 'Aqāmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Anfaqū Mimmā Razaqnāhum Sirrāan Wa `Alāniyatan Wa Yadra'ūna Bil-Ĥasanati As-Sayyi'ata 'Ūlā'ika Lahum `Uqbá Ad-Dāri | 013-022* who persevere in seeking their Lord's countenance and keep up prayer and spend whatever We have provided them with both secretly and publicly, and ward off evil with good; those will have the compensation of the [final] Home, | وَالَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلاَةَ وَأَنفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرّا ً وَعَلاَنِيَة ً وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ أُوْلَائِكَ لَهُمْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ |
| Jannātu `Adnin Yadkhulūnahā Wa Man Şalaĥa Min 'Ābā'ihim Wa 'Azwājihim Wa Dhurrīyātihim Wa ۖ Al-Malā'ikatu Yadkhulūna `Alayhim Min Kulli Bābin | 013-023* gardens of Eden which they will enter, as well as anyone who has acted honorably among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring. Angels will come in on them by every gate: | جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ يَدْخُلُونَهَا وَمَنْ صَلَحَ مِنْ آبَائِهِمْ وَأَزْوَاجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ ۖ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةُ يَدْخُلُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ كُلِّ بَابٍ |
| Salāmun `Alaykum Bimā Şabartum ۚ Fani`ma `Uqbá Ad-Dāri | 013-024* "Peace be upon you because you have acted so patiently!" How blissful will the compensation of the Home be! Who Will Go to Hell | سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِمَا صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ |
| Wa Al-Ladhīna Yanquđūna `Ahda Al-Lahi Min Ba`di Mīthāqihi Wa Yaqţa`ūna Mā 'Amara Al-Lahu Bihi 'An Yūşala Wa Yufsidūna Fī Al-'Arđi ۙ 'Ūlā'ika Lahumu Al-La`natu Wa Lahum Sū'u Ad-Dāri | 013-025* Those who have broken God's agreement after having pledged it, and intercepted what God has commanded to be transmitted, and acted depraved on earth will have the Curse and theirs will be the worst home! | وَالَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِه ِِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَنْ يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ ۙ أُوْلَائِكَ لَهُمُ اللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوءُ الدَّارِ |
| Al-Lahu Yabsuţu Ar-Rizqa Liman Yashā'u Wa Yaqdiru ۚ Wa Fariĥū Bil-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Wa Mā Al-Ĥayāatu Ad-Dunyā Fī Al-'Ākhirati 'Illā Matā`un | 013-026* God extends and measures out sustenance for anyone He wishes, while they are happy with worldly life. Yet what is worldly life compared with the Hereafter except as something to be enjoyed [as it passes]? (IV) | اللَّهُ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ وَفَرِحُوا بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا فِي الآخِرَةِ إِلاَّ مَتَاعٌ |
| Wa Yaqūlu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Lawlā 'Unzila `Alayhi 'Āyatun Min Rabbihi ۗ Qul 'Inna Al-Laha Yuđillu Man Yashā'u Wa Yahdī 'Ilayhi Man 'Anāba | 013-027* Those who disbelieve say: "If only a sign were sent down to him from his Lord!" SAY:"God lets anyone He wishes go astray, and guides to Himself anyone who feels concerned- | وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلاَ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّه ِِ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي إِلَيْهِ مَنْ أَنَابَ |
| Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Taţma'innu Qulūbuhum Bidhikri Al-Lahi ۗ 'Alā Bidhikri Al-Lahi Taţma'innu Al-Qulūbu | 013-028* the ones who believe and whose hearts feel tranquil through remembering God- "Surely hearts feel tranquil whenever God is mentioned!" -- | الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ أَلاَ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ |
| Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Ţūbá Lahum Wa Ĥusnu Ma'ābin | 013-029* Those who believe and perform honorable deeds will find gladness and the finest journey's end. | الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ طُوبَى لَهُمْ وَحُسْنُ مَآبٍ |
| Kadhālika 'Arsalnāka Fī 'Ummatin Qad Khalat Min Qablihā 'Umamun Litatluwa `Alayhimu Al-Ladhī 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayka Wa Hum Yakfurūna Bir-Raĥmani ۚ Qul Huwa Rabbī Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa `Alayhi Tawakkaltu Wa 'Ilayhi Matābi | 013-030* Thus We have sent you to a nation-nations have passed away long before it-so you may recite to them what We have inspired you with even though they disbelieve in the Mercy-giving! SAY: "He is my Lord: there is no god except Him. On Him do I rely and towards Him [goes] my repentance." | كَذَلِكَ أَرْسَلْنَاكَ فِي أُمَّةٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهَا أُمَم ٌ لِتَتْلُوَ عَلَيْهِمُ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ بِالرَّحْمَنِ ۚ قُلْ هُوَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ مَتَابِ |
| Wa Law 'Anna Qur'ānāan Suyyirat Bihi Al-Jibālu 'Aw Quţţi`at Bihi Al-'Arđu 'Aw Kullima Bihi Al-Mawtá ۗ Bal Lillahi Al-'Amru Jamī`āan ۗ 'Afalam Yay'asi Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'An Law Yashā'u Al-Lahu Lahadá An-Nāsa Jamī`āan ۗ Wa Lā Yazālu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Tuşībuhum Bimā Şana`ū Qāri`atun 'Aw Taĥullu Qarībāan Min Dārihim Ĥattá Ya'tiya Wa`du Al-Lahi ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Lā Yukhlifu Al-Mī`āda | 013-031* If there were only some Quran by which the mountains would travel away or the earth would crack open, or the dead would speak out! Rather command is wholly God's. Do not those who believe despair, because God might have guided all mankind had He so wished? Disaster will continually afflict those who disbelieve because of what they produce, or it will settle down close to their home until God's promise comes true. God does not break any appointment. (V) | وَلَوْ أَنَّ قُرْآنا ً سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ الْجِبَالُ أَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ الأَرْضُ أَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ الْمَوْتَى ۗ بَلْ لِلَّهِ الأَمْرُ جَمِيعا ً ۗ أَفَلَمْ يَيْئَسِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ لَوْ يَشَاءُ اللَّهُ لَهَدَى النَّاسَ جَمِيعا ً ۗ وَلاَ يَزَالُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا تُصِيبُهُمْ بِمَا صَنَعُوا قَارِعَةٌ أَوْ تَحُلُّ قَرِيبا ً مِنْ دَارِهِمْ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ وَعْدُ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ |
| Wa Laqadi Astuhzi'a Birusulin Min Qablika Fa'amlaytu Lilladhīna Kafarū Thumma 'Akhadhtuhum ۖ Fakayfa Kāna `Iqābi | 013-032* Messengers have been ridiculed before you (came), and I have been indulgent with those who disbelieve; then I seized them. What was My punishment like? | وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَأَمْلَيْتُ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ |
| 'Afaman Huwa Qā'imun `Alá Kulli Nafsin Bimā Kasabat ۗ Wa Ja`alū Lillahi Shurakā'a Qul Sammūhum ۚ 'Am Tunabbi'ūnahu Bimā Lā Ya`lamu Fī Al-'Arđi 'Am Bižāhirin Mina Al-Qawli ۗ Bal Zuyyina Lilladhīna Kafarū Makruhum Wa Şuddū `Ani As-Sabīli ۗ Wa Man Yuđlili Al-Lahu Famā Lahu Min Hādin | 013-033* Who is there standing over every soul [checking up] on whatever it has earned, while they give God associates? SAY: "Name them! Or will you inform Him about something on earth He does not know, or is it just a display of words?" Rather those who disbelieve feel their scheme is attractive while they are diverted from the Path. Anyone whom God lets go astray will have no guide. | أَفَمَنْ هُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى كُلِّ نَفْس ٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۗ وَجَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ قُلْ سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ أَمْ تُنَبِّئُونَه ُ بِمَا لاَ يَعْلَمُ فِي الأَرْضِ أَمْ بِظَاهِرٍ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ ۗ بَلْ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مَكْرُهُمْ وَصُدُّوا عَنِ السَّبِيلِ ۗ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَمَا لَه ُ مِنْ هَادٍ |
| Lahum `Adhābun Fī Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā ۖ Wa La`adhābu Al-'Ākhirati 'Ashaqqu ۖ Wa Mā Lahum Mina Al-Lahi Min Wāqin | 013-034* Theirs will be torment during worldly life, while torment in the Hereafter will be even more heartrending. They will have no one to shield them from God. The Garden | لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الآخِرَةِ أَشَقُّ ۖ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَاقٍ |
| Mathalu Al-Jannati Allatī Wu`ida Al-Muttaqūna ۖ Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru ۖ 'Ukuluhā Dā'imun Wa Žilluhā ۚ Tilka `Uqbá Al-Ladhīna Attaqaw ۖ Wa `Uqbá Al-Kāfirīna An-Nāru | 013-035* [Here] is what the Garden which the heedful are promised will be like: rivers will flow through it; its food and its shade shall be perpetual. Such is the compensation for those who have done their duty, while the outcome for disbelievers will be the Fire. People of the Book | مَثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ ۖ أُكُلُهَا دَائِمٌ وَظِلُّهَا ۚ تِلْكَ عُقْبَى الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوا ۖ وَعُقْبَى الْكَافِرِينَ النَّارُ |
| Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Ātaynāhumu Al-Kitāba Yafraĥūna Bimā 'Unzila 'Ilayka ۖ Wa Mina Al-'Aĥzābi Man Yunkiru Ba`đahu ۚ Qul 'Innamā 'Umirtu 'An 'A`buda Al-Laha Wa Lā 'Ushrika Bihi ۚ 'Ilayhi 'Ad`ū Wa 'Ilayhi Ma'ābi | 013-036* Those whom We have given the Book to are happy with what has been sent down to you; yet among the factions there are some who disregard part Of it. SAY: "I am only ordered to serve God [Alone] and not associate anything with Him. To Him do I appeal and towards Him will be my retreat." | وَالَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَمِنَ الأَحْزَابِ مَنْ يُنكِرُ بَعْضَه ُ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ وَلاَ أُشْرِكَ بِهِ ۚ إِلَيْهِ أَدْعُو وَإِلَيْهِ مَآبِ |
| Wa Kadhalika 'Anzalnāhu Ĥukmāan `Arabīyāan ۚ Wa La'ini Attaba`ta 'Ahwā'ahum Ba`damā Jā'aka Mina Al-`Ilmi Mā Laka Mina Al-Lahi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Wāqin | 013-037* Thus We have sent it down for Arab discretion. If you followed their whims after the sort of knowledge which has come to you, you would have no protector nor any shield against God. (VI) | وَكَذَلِكَ أَنزَلْنَاه ُ حُكْما ً عَرَبِيّا ً ۚ وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ بَعْدَمَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ وَاقٍ |
| Wa Laqad 'Arsalnā Rusulāan Min Qablika Wa Ja`alnā Lahum 'Azwājāan Wa Dhurrīyatan ۚ Wa Mā Kāna Lirasūlin 'An Ya'tiya Bi'āyatin 'Illā Bi'idhni Al-Lahi ۗ Likulli 'Ajalin Kitābun | 013-038* We have sent messengers before you [came], and granted them spouses and offspring. No messenger would have brought any sign except with God's permission. For each period there is something written (down). | وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلا ً مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجا ً وَذُرِّيَّة ً ۚ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ |
| Yamĥū Al-Lahu Mā Yashā'u Wa Yuthbitu ۖ Wa `Indahu 'Ummu Al-Kitābi | 013-039* God erases and consolidates whatever He wishes; He retains the Mother of the Book. | يَمْحُوا اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ وَعِنْدَهُ~ُ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ |
| Wa 'In Mā Nuriyannaka Ba`đa Al-Ladhī Na`iduhum 'Aw Natawaffayannaka Fa'innamā `Alayka Al-Balāghu Wa `Alaynā Al-Ĥisābu | 013-040* Whether We merely show you part of what We have promised them or cause you to pass away, you merely have to proclaim it, while We must reckon. | وَإِنْ مَا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِي نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلاَغُ وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ |
| 'Awalam Yaraw 'Annā Na'tī Al-'Arđa Nanquşuhā Min 'Aţrāfihā Wa ۚ Allāhu Yaĥkumu Lā Mu`aqqiba Liĥukmihi ۚ Wa Huwa Sarī`u Al-Ĥisābi | 013-041* Have they not seen how We come to clip the land off at its borders? God decides; there is no way to reverse His decision. He is Swift in reckoning! | أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا نَأْتِي الأَرْضَ نَنْقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ لاَ مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكْمِه ِِ ۚ وَهُوَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ |
| Wa Qad Makara Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Falillāhi Al-Makru Jamī`āan ۖ Ya`lamu Mā Taksibu Kullu Nafsin ۗ Wa Saya`lamu Al-Kuffāru Liman `Uqbá Ad-Dāri | 013-042* Those before them have plotted, even though God [controls] all plotting; He knows what every soul is earning. Disbelievers shall know who has compensation in the Home. | وَقَدْ مَكَرَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَلِلَّهِ الْمَكْرُ جَمِيعا ً ۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ الْكُفَّارُ لِمَنْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ |
| Wa Yaqūlu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Lasta Mursalāan ۚ Qul Kafá Bil-Lahi Shahīdāan Baynī Wa Baynakum Wa Man `Indahu `Ilmu Al-Kitābi | 013-043* Those who disbelieve say: "You are no emissary." SAY: "God suffices as a Witness between me and you (all), as well as anyone who has knowledge about the Book." | وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَسْتَ مُرْسَلا ً ۚ قُلْ كَفَى بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدا ً بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَمَنْ عِنْدَه ُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ |
