078.001 Whereof do they question one another ?
عَمّ َ يَتَسَا ءَلُونَ
`Ani A n -Naba'i A l-`Ažī mi (An -Naba': 2).
078.002 (It is) of the awful tidings,
عَنِ ا ل نَّ بَإِ ا لْعَظِ يمِ
Al-Ladh ī Hum Fī hi Mukh talifū na (An -Naba': 3).
078.003 Concerning which they are in disagreement.
ا لَّذِي هُمْ فِي هِ مُخْ تَلِفُونَ
Kallā Saya`lamū na (An -Naba': 4).
078.004 Nay, but they will come to know!
كَلاَّ سَيَعْلَمُونَ
Th umm a Kallā Saya`lamū na (An -Naba': 5).
078.005 Nay, again, but they will come to know!
ثُمَّ كَلاَّ سَيَعْلَمُونَ
'Alam Naj `ali A l-'Arđa Mihādāan (An -Naba': 6).
078.006 Have We not made the earth an expanse,
أَلَمْ نَجْ عَلِ ا لأَرْضَ مِهَاداً
Wa A l-Jibā la 'Awtādāan (An -Naba': 7).
078.007 And the high hills bulwarks ?
وَالْجِبَا لَ أَوْتَاداً
Wa Kh alaq nākum 'Azwājāan (An -Naba': 8).
078.008 And We have created you in pairs,
وَخَ لَقْ نَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجاً
Wa Ja`alnā Nawmakum Subātāan (An -Naba': 9).
078.009 And have appointed your sleep for repose,
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتاً
Wa Ja`alnā A l-Lay la Libāsāan (An -Naba': 10).
078.010 And have appointed the night as a cloak,
وَجَعَلْنَا ا ل لَّيْ لَ لِبَاساً
Wa Ja`alnā A n -Nahā ra Ma`āsh āan (An -Naba': 11).
078.011 And have appointed the day for livelihood.
وَجَعَلْنَا ا ل نَّ هَا رَ مَعَاشاً
Wa Banaynā Fawq akum Sab `āan Sh idādāan (An -Naba': 12).
078.012 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَ كُمْ سَبْ عاً شِدَاداً
Wa Ja`alnā Sirā jāan Wa Hhājāan (An -Naba': 13).
078.013 And have appointed a dazzling lamp,
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَ اجاً وَهَّاجاً
Wa 'An zalnā Mina A l-Mu`ş ir ā ti Mā 'an Th ajjājāan (An -Naba': 14).
078.014 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water,
وَأَن زَلْنَا مِنَ ا لْمُعْصِ رَ ا تِ مَا ءً ثَجَّاجاً
Linukh r ija Bihi Ĥabbāan Wa Nabātāan (An -Naba': 15).
078.015 Thereby to produce grain and plant,
لِنُخْ رِ جَ بِهِ حَبّاً وَنَبَاتاً
Wa Jann ā tin 'Alfāfāan (An -Naba': 16).
078.016 And gardens of thick foliage.
وَجَنّ َا تٍ أَلْفَافاً
'Inn a Yaw ma A l-Faş li Kā na Mīq ātāan (An -Naba': 17).
078.017 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
إِنّ َ يَوْ مَ ا لْفَصْ لِ كَا نَ مِيقَ اتاً
Yaw ma Yun fakh u Fī A ş -Ş ū r i Fata'tū na 'Afwājāan (An -Naba': 18).
078.018 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes,
يَوْ مَ يُن فَخُ فِي ا ل صُّ و رِ فَتَأْتُو نَ أَفْوَاجاً
Wa Futiĥati A s-Samā 'u Fakānat 'Ab wābāan (An -Naba': 19).
078.019 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,
وَفُتِحَتِ ا ل سَّمَا ءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْ وَاباً
Wa Suyyira ti A l-Jibā lu Fakānat Sarā bāan (An -Naba': 20).
078.020 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.
وَسُيِّرَ تِ ا لْجِبَا لُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَ اباً
'Inn a Jahann ama Kānat Mir ş ādāan (An -Naba': 21).
078.021 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush,
إِنّ َ جَهَنَّ مَ كَانَتْ مِر ْصَ اداً
Lilţ ţ āgh ī na Ma'ā bāan (An -Naba': 22).
078.022 A home for the rebellious.
لِلْطَّ اغِ ي نَ مَآباً
Lābith ī na Fīhā 'Aĥq ābāan (An -Naba': 23).
078.023 They will abide therein for ages.
لاَبِثِي نَ فِيهَا أَحْقَ اباً
Lā Yadh ūq ū na Fīhā Bardāan Wa Lā Sh arā bāan (An -Naba': 24).
078.024 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink
لاَ يَذُوقُ و نَ فِيهَا بَرْداً وَلاَ شَرَ اباً
'Illā Ĥamīmāan Wa Gh assāq āan (An -Naba': 25).
078.025 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold:
إِلاَّ حَمِيماً وَغَ سَّاق اً
Jazā 'an Wifāq āan (An -Naba': 26).
078.026 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds).
جَزَا ءً وِفَاق اً
'Inn ahum Kānū Lā Yarjū na Ĥisābāan (An -Naba': 27).
078.027 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;
إِنَّ هُمْ كَانُوا لاَ يَرْجُو نَ حِسَاباً
Wa Kadh dh abū Bi'ā yātinā Kidh dh ābāan (An -Naba': 28).
078.028 They called Our revelations false with strong denial.
وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّاباً
Wa Kulla Sh ay 'in 'Aĥş aynā hu Kitābāan (An -Naba': 29).
078.029 Everything have We recorded in a Book.
وَكُلَّ شَيْ ءٍ أَحْصَ يْنَا هُ كِتَاباً
Fadh ūq ū Falan Nazīdakum 'Illā `Adh ābāan (An -Naba': 30).
078.030 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.
فَذُوقُ وا فَلَن ْ نَزِيدَكُمْ إِلاَّ عَذَاباً
'Inn a Lilmuttaq ī na Mafāzāan (An -Naba': 31).
078.031 Lo! for the duteous is achievement -
إِنّ َ لِلْمُتَّقِ ي نَ مَفَازاً
Ĥadā 'iq a Wa 'A`nābāan (An -Naba': 32).
078.032 Gardens enclosed and vineyards,
حَدَا ئِقَ وَأَعْنَاباً
Wa Kawā`iba 'Atrā bāan (An -Naba': 33).
078.033 And maidens for companions,
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَ اباً
Wa Ka'sāan Dihāq āan (An -Naba': 34).
078.034 And a full cup.
وَكَأْساً دِهَاق اً
Lā Yasma`ū na Fīhā Lagh wan Wa Lā Kidh dh ābāan (An -Naba': 35).
078.035 There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying -
لاَ يَسْمَعُو نَ فِيهَا لَغْ واً وَلاَ كِذَّاباً
Jazā 'an Min Ra bbika `Aţ ā 'an Ĥisābāan (An -Naba': 36).
078.036 Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment -
جَزَا ءً مِن ْ رَ بِّكَ عَطَ ا ءً حِسَاباً
Ra bbi A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā A r-Ra ĥmani ۖ Lā Yam likū na Minhu Kh iţ ābāan (An -Naba': 37).
078.037 Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.
رَ بِّ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ا ل رَّ حْمَنِ ۖ لاَ يَمْلِكُو نَ مِنْ هُ خِ طَ اباً
Yaw ma Yaq ū mu A r-Rū ĥu Wa A l-Malā 'ikatu Ş affāan ۖ Lā Yatakallamū na 'Illā Man 'Adh ina Lahu A r-Ra ĥmā nu Wa Q ā la Ş awābāan (An -Naba': 38).
078.038 On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.
يَوْ مَ يَقُ و مُ ا ل رُّو حُ وَا لْمَلاَئِكَةُ صَ فّاً ۖ لاَ يَتَكَلَّمُو نَ إِلاَّ مَن ْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ا ل رَّ حْمَنُ وَقَ ا لَ صَ وَاباً
Dh ālika A l-Yaw mu A l-Ĥaq q u ۖ Faman Sh ā 'a A ttakh adh a 'Ilá Ra bbihi Ma'ā bāan (An -Naba': 39).
078.039 That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.
ذَلِكَ ا لْيَوْ مُ ا لْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن ْ شَا ءَ ا تَّخَ ذَ إِلَى رَ بِّهِ مَآباً
'Inn ā 'An dh arnākum `Adh ābāan Q ar ībāan Yaw ma Yan žuru A l-Mar'u Mā Q addamat Yadā hu Wa Yaq ū lu A l-Kāfir u Yā Laytanī Kun tu Turā bāan (An -Naba': 40).
078.040 Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!"
إِنَّ ا أَن ذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَاباً قَ رِ يباً يَوْ مَ يَن ظُ رُ ا لْمَرْءُ مَا قَ دَّمَتْ يَدَا هُ وَيَقُ و لُ ا لْكَافِر ُيَالَيْتَنِي كُن تُ تُرَ اباً
