| THIS CHAPTER contains 129 verses arranged in sixteen sections. They are all from Madina except for the two final verses which date from the Farewell Pilgrimage to Mecca (as does Chapter 110 on [Divine] Support). This chapter was revealed after The Table 5 and the expedition to Tabiik on the road to Damascus which occurred in A.H. 9 / 630 A.D., or two years before the Prophet's death (VI,XIII). The alternate title of Dispensation (OR Release) comes from v.1, while the main one of Repentance (which is preferred by the great commentator Ibn-Kathir) is to be found in VV. 5, 11 and 103. The battle of Hunayn which occurred in the year 8 / 630 is discussed in sections XIII & XIV. There is no invocation to this chapter since it is really a continuation of the previous one on Booty 8, and the first verse invokes God's name. It strongly advises us against associating other deities in our pure worship of God Alone or the sin of idolatry, as it is called, and against trusting treacherous neighbors. Associators should not visit mosques (III), while priests and clergy are called unnecessary since God can be approached directly; likewise God has no son (V). Charity is another theme which is discussed (VII-VIII), especially its use in missionary effort (VIII). We also read biographical details about the Prophet's suffering during his Transfer or the Hijra from Mecca to Yathrib, which was then to b called Madina (the Enlightened City'-al-Madina al-Munawwara-or the Prophet's City'). We likewise learn about his troubles in imposing a draft or military service, especially on the rich (VII) and the nomads (XI-XII) which are described in an especially vivid manner. Dissension had been stirred up by hypocritical agitators and draft dodgers who went out among the fickle desert folk, The Migrants or refugees similarly had their trouble in settling down in his new capital of Madina. | Barā'atun Mina Al-Lahi Wa Rasūlihi 'Ilá Al-Ladhīna `Āhadttum Mina Al-Mushrikīna | 009-001* Dispensation [comes] from God and His messenger for those associators with whom you have made a treaty: | بَرَاءةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ إِلَى الَّذِينَ عَاهَدتُّمْ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ |
| Fasīĥū Fī Al-'Arđi 'Arba`ata 'Ash/hurin Wa A`lamū 'Annakum Ghayru Mu`jizī Al-Lahi ۙ Wa 'Anna Al-Laha Mukhzī Al-Kāfirīna | 009-002* travel around the earth for four months, and realize that you (all) cannot escape from God. God will shame disbelievers. Treaty Rights | فَسِيحُوا فِي الأَرْضِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِي اللَّهِ ۙ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ مُخْزِي الْكَافِرِينَ |
| Wa 'Adhānun Mina Al-Lahi Wa Rasūlihi 'Ilá An-Nāsi Yawma Al-Ĥajji Al-'Akbari 'Anna Al-Laha Barī'un Mina Al-Mushrikīna ۙ Wa Rasūluhu ۚ Fa'in Tubtum Fahuwa Khayrun Lakum ۖ Wa 'In Tawallaytum Fā`lamū 'Annakum Ghayru Mu`jizī Al-Lahi ۗ Wa Bashshiri Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi`adhābin 'Alīmin | 009-003* [This is] a proclamation by God and His messenger for mankind [assembled] on the day of the greater Pilgrimage, to wit: God may dissolve treaty obligations with associators and [so may] His messenger. If you repent, then it will be better for you; while if you turn aside, know that you cannot escape from God. Announce painful torment to those who disbelieve, | وَأَذَانٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ إِلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْحَجِّ الأَكْبَرِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ بَرِيءٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ۙ وَرَسُولُه ُ ۚ فَإِنْ تُبْتُمْ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِي اللَّهِ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ |
| 'Illā Al-Ladhīna `Āhadttum Mina Al-Mushrikīna Thumma Lam Yanquşūkum Shay'āan Wa Lam Yužāhirū `Alaykum 'Aĥadāan Fa'atimmū 'Ilayhim `Ahdahum 'Ilá Muddatihim ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Yuĥibbu Al-Muttaqīna | 009-004* except for those associators with whom you have already made a treaty; provided they have not failed you in any respect nor backed up anyone against you. Fulfil any treaty [you have] with them until their period is up. God loves those who do their duty! | إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ عَاهَدتُّمْ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنقُصُوكُمْ شَيْئا ً وَلَمْ يُظَاهِرُوا عَلَيْكُمْ أَحَدا ً فَأَتِمُّوا إِلَيْهِمْ عَهْدَهُمْ إِلَى مُدَّتِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ |
| Fa'idhā Ansalakha Al-'Ash/huru Al-Ĥurumu Fāqtulū Al-Mushrikīna Ĥaythu Wajadtumūhum Wa Khudhūhum Wa Aĥşurūhum Wāq`udū Lahum Kulla Marşadin ۚ Fa'in Tābū Wa 'Aqāmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātaw Az-Zakāata Fakhallū Sabīlahum ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun | 009-005* When the hallowed months have slipped away, then fight associators wherever you may find them; take them and besiege them, and waylay them at every outpost. If they should repent, keep up prayer and pay the welfare tax, then let them go their way. God is Forgiving, Merciful. | فَإِذَا انسَلَخَ الأَشْهُرُ الْحُرُمُ فَاقْتُلُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَيْثُ وَجَدْتُمُوهُمْ وَخُذُوهُمْ وَاحْصُرُوهُمْ وَاقْعُدُوا لَهُمْ كُلَّ مَرْصَدٍ ۚ فَإِنْ تَابُوا وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ فَخَلُّوا سَبِيلَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ |
| Wa 'In 'Aĥadun Mina Al-Mushrikīna Astajāraka Fa'ajirhu Ĥattá Yasma`a Kalāma Al-Lahi Thumma 'Abligh/hu Ma'manahu ۚ Dhālika Bi'annahum Qawmun Lā Ya`lamūna | 009-006* If one of the associators should ask you for protection, then grant him asylum until he has heard God's word. Later on escort him to where he can find safety. That is because they are folk who do not know anything. (II) | وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ اسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّى يَسْمَعَ كَلاَمَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ أَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَه ُ ۚ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْم ٌ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ |
| Kayfa Yakūnu Lilmushrikīna `Ahdun `Inda Al-Lahi Wa `Inda Rasūlihi 'Illā Al-Ladhīna `Āhadtum `Inda Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi ۖ Famā Astaqāmū Lakum Fāstaqīmū Lahum ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Yuĥibbu Al-Muttaqīna | 009-007* How can there be any treaty with associators on the part of God and His messenger, except for those with whom you have ratified one at the Hallowed Mosque? So long as they act straightforwardly with you, be straightforward with them. God loves those who do their duty! | كَيْفَ يَكُونُ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ عَهْدٌ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَعِنْدَ رَسُولِهِ إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ عَاهَدْتُمْ عِنْدَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ ۖ فَمَا اسْتَقَامُوا لَكُمْ فَاسْتَقِيمُوا لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ |
| Kayfa Wa 'In Yažharū `Alaykum Lā Yarqubū Fīkum 'Illāan Wa Lā Dhimmatan ۚ Yurđūnakum Bi'afwāhihim Wa Ta'bá Qulūbuhum Wa 'Aktharuhum Fāsiqūna | 009-008* How, if they should overcome you, will they honor any pact or obligation with you? They seek to please you in whatever they say while their hearts refuse to. Most of them are immoral: | كَيْفَ وَإِنْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَيْكُمْ لاَ يَرْقُبُوا فِيكُمْ إِلاّ ً وَلاَ ذِمَّة ً ۚ يُرْضُونَكُمْ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتَأْبَى قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ |
| Ashtaraw Bi'āyāti Al-Lahi Thamanāan Qalīlāan Faşaddū `An Sabīlihi ۚ 'Innahum Sā'a Mā Kānū Ya`malūna | 009-009* they have bought up God's signs for a paltry price, and obstructed His way. How evil is what they have been doing! | اشْتَرَوْا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ ثَمَنا ً قَلِيلا ً فَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ سَاءَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
| Lā Yarqubūna Fī Mu'uminin 'Illāan Wa Lā Dhimmatan ۚ Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mu`tadūna | 009-010* They honor no pact nor any obligation with a believer; those are aggressors! | لاَ يَرْقُبُونَ فِي مُؤْمِنٍ إِلاّ ً وَلاَ ذِمَّة ً ۚ وَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْمُعْتَدُونَ |
| Fa'in Tābū Wa 'Aqāmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātaw Az-Zakāata Fa'ikhwānukum Fī Ad-Dīni ۗ Wa Nufaşşilu Al-'Āyāti Liqawmin Ya`lamūna | 009-011* Yet if they should repent, keep up prayer and pay the welfare tax, then [they may be) your brethren in religion. We spell out signs for folk who know. | فَإِنْ تَابُوا وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ ۗ وَنُفَصِّلُ الآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ |
| Wa 'In Nakathū 'Aymānahum Min Ba`di `Ahdihim Wa Ţa`anū Fī Dīnikum Faqātilū 'A'immata Al-Kufri ۙ 'Innahum Lā 'Aymāna Lahum La`allahum Yantahūna | 009-012* If they should violate their trust once they have sworn it, and insult your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief; they have no faith to make them stop. | وَإِنْ نَكَثُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ عَهْدِهِمْ وَطَعَنُوا فِي دِينِكُمْ فَقَاتِلُوا أَئِمَّةَ الْكُفْرِ ۙ إِنَّهُمْ لاَ أَيْمَانَ لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَنتَهُونَ |
| 'Alā Tuqātilūna Qawmāan Nakathū 'Aymānahum Wa Hammū Bi'ikhrāji Ar-Rasūli Wa Hum Bada'ūkum 'Awwala Marratin ۚ 'Atakhshawnahum ۚ Fa-Allāhu 'Aĥaqqu 'An Takhshawhu 'In Kuntum Mu'uminīna | 009-013* Will you not fight folk who have violated their trust and intended to exile the Messenger? They attacked you first! Are you afraid of them? You ought to be even more afraid of God if you are believers. | أَلاَ تُقَاتِلُونَ قَوْما ً نَكَثُوا أَيْمَانَهُمْ وَهَمُّوا بِإِخْرَاجِ الرَّسُولِ وَهُمْ بَدَءُوكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ أَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْ ۚ فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَخْشَوْهُ إِنْ كُنتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ |
| Qātilūhum Yu`adhdhibhumu Al-Lahu Bi'aydīkum Wa Yukhzihim Wa Yanşurkum `Alayhim Wa Yashfi Şudūra Qawmin Mu'uminīna | 009-014* Fight them, so God may punish them at your hands and disgrace them, and support you against them, and heal the breasts of believing folk, | قَاتِلُوهُمْ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللَّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ وَيُخْزِهِمْ وَيَنْصُرْكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍ مُؤْمِنِينَ |
| Wa Yudh/hib Ghayža Qulūbihim ۗ Wa Yatūbu Al-Lahu `Alá Man Yashā'u Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun | 009-015* and remove the fury from their hearts. God turns to anyone He wishes; God is Aware, Wise. | وَيُذْهِبْ غَيْظَ قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| 'Am Ĥasibtum 'An Tutrakū Wa Lammā Ya`lami Al-Lahu Al-Ladhīna Jāhadū Minkum Wa Lam Yattakhidhū Min Dūni Al-Lahi Wa Lā Rasūlihi Wa Lā Al-Mu'uminīna Walījatan Wa ۚ Allāhu Khabīrun Bimā Ta`malūna | 009-016* Or do you reckon you will be abandoned once God knows which of you have struggled, and did not adopt anyone as an ally besides God, His messenger and believers? God is Informed anything you do. Associators Should Not Visit Mosques (III) | أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَنْ تُتْرَكُوا وَلَمَّا يَعْلَمِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا مِنْكُمْ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ رَسُولِه ِِ وَلاَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلِيجَة ً ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ |
| Mā Kāna Lilmushrikīna 'An Ya`murū Masājida Al-Lahi Shāhidīna `Alá 'Anfusihim Bil-Kufri ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Ĥabiţat 'A`māluhum Wa Fī An-Nāri Hum Khālidūna | 009-017* Associators must not frequent God's mosques since they act as witnesses for their own disbelief. Those [people will find] their actions will miscarry and they will remain for ever in the Fire. | مَا كَانَ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ يَعْمُرُوا مَسَاجِدَ اللَّهِ شَاهِدِينَ عَلَى أَنفُسِهِمْ بِالْكُفْرِ ۚ أُوْلَائِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ وَفِي النَّارِ هُمْ خَالِدُونَ |
| 'Innamā Ya`muru Masājida Al-Lahi Man 'Āmana Bil-Lahi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa 'Aqāma Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātá Az-Zakāata Wa Lam Yakhsha 'Illā Al-Laha ۖ Fa`asá 'Ūlā'ika 'An Yakūnū Mina Al-Muhtadīna | 009-018* Only someone who believes in God and the Last Day, keeps up prayer, pays the welfare tax and dreads only God [Alone], shall frequent God's mosques. Perhaps those may be the ones who submit to guidance. | إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَاجِدَ اللَّهِ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَأَقَامَ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَى الزَّكَاةَ وَلَمْ يَخْشَ إِلاَّ اللَّهَ ۖ فَعَسَى أُوْلَائِكَ أَنْ يَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُهْتَدِينَ |
| 'Aja`altum Siqāyata Al-Ĥājji Wa `Imārata Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi Kaman 'Āmana Bil-Lahi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Jāhada Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi ۚ Lā Yastawūna `Inda Al-Lahi Wa ۗ Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Až-Žālimīna | 009-019* Have you made those giving pilgrims something to drink a care of the Hallowed Mosque just like someone who believes in God and the Last Day, and struggles on for God's sake? They are not equal before God; God does not guide such wrongdoing folk! | أَجَعَلْتُمْ سِقَايَةَ الْحَاجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ كَمَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَجَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ لاَ يَسْتَوُونَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ |
| Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Hājarū Wa Jāhadū Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim 'A`žamu Darajatan `Inda Al-Lahi ۚ Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Fā'izūna | 009-020* Those who believe and migrate, and struggle for God's sake with their property and person stand much higher in rank with God. Those will be triumphant! | الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَهَاجَرُوا وَجَاهَدُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِنْدَ اللَّهِ ۚ وَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ |
| Yubashshiruhum Rabbuhum Biraĥmatin Minhu Wa Riđwānin Wa Jannātin Lahum Fīhā Na`īmun Muqīmun | 009-021* Their Lord proclaims mercy and approval from Himself for them, and gardens where they will have lasting bliss | يُبَشِّرُهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنْهُ وَرِضْوَانٍ وَجَنَّات ٍ لَهُمْ فِيهَا نَعِيمٌ مُقِيم ٌ |
| Khālidīna Fīhā 'Abadāan ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha `Indahu 'Ajrun `Ažīmun | 009-022* to live in for ever and ever; with God there lies a splendid wage. The Proper Use of Property and Wealth | خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدا ً ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ~ُ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Lā Tattakhidhū 'Ābā'akum Wa 'Ikhwānakum 'Awliyā'a 'Ini Astaĥabbū Al-Kufra `Alá Al-'Īmāni ۚ Wa Man Yatawallahum Minkum Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Až-Žālimūna | 009-023* You who believe, do not take your fathers and your brothers on as sponsors if they prefer disbelief rather than faith. Anyone of you who enlists them as sponsors are wrongdoers. | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لاَ تَتَّخِذُوا آبَاءَكُمْ وَإِخْوَانَكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ إِنِ اسْتَحَبُّوا الْكُفْرَ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّهُمْ مِنْكُمْ فَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ |
| Qul 'In Kāna 'Ābā'uukum Wa 'Abnā'uukum Wa 'Ikhwānukum Wa 'Azwājukum Wa `Ashīratukum Wa 'Amwālun Aqtaraftumūhā Wa Tijāratun Takhshawna Kasādahā Wa Masākinu Tarđawnahā 'Aĥabba 'Ilaykum Mina Al-Lahi Wa Rasūlihi Wa Jihādin Fī Sabīlihi Fatarabbaşū Ĥattá Ya'tiya Al-Lahu Bi'amrihi Wa ۗ Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Al-Fāsiqīna | 009-024* SAY: "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses and your family ties, as well as the wealth you have acquired and the business you dread will fall off, plus the dwellings you are so fond of, are all dearer to you than God and His messenger, or striving for His sake, then wait around till God brings His command to pass. God does not guide such immoral folk! (IV) | قُلْ إِنْ كَانَ آبَاؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَاؤُكُمْ وَإِخْوَانُكُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُكُمْ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ وَأَمْوَالٌ اقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا وَتِجَارَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَاكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَهَا أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِه ِِ وَجِهَادٍ فِي سَبِيلِه ِِ فَتَرَبَّصُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِه ِِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفَاسِقِينَ |
| Laqad Naşarakumu Al-Lahu Fī Mawāţina Kathīratin ۙ Wa Yawma Ĥunaynin ۙ 'Idh 'A`jabatkum Kathratukum Falam Tughni `Ankum Shay'āan Wa Đāqat `Alaykumu Al-'Arđu Bimā Raĥubat Thumma Wallaytum Mudbirīna | 009-025* God has supported you on many battlefields and the day of Hunayn when our own numbers amazed you; yet it did not spare you in any way and the earth seemed cramped for you, spacious as it is. Then you fell back in retreat. | لَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ فِي مَوَاطِنَ كَثِيرَةٍ ۙ وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ ۙ إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ فَلَمْ تُغْنِ عَنْكُمْ شَيْئا ً وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ ثُمَّ وَلَّيْتُمْ مُدْبِرِينَ |
| Thumma 'Anzala Al-Lahu Sakīnatahu `Alá Rasūlihi Wa `Alá Al-Mu'uminīna Wa 'Anzala Junūdāan Lam Tarawhā Wa `Adhdhaba Al-Ladhīna Kafarū ۚ Wa Dhalika Jazā'u Al-Kāfirīna | 009-026* Next God sent His serenity down upon His messenger and on believers; He sent down armies you did not even see and punished those who disbelieved. Such is the reward for disbelievers. Lightning | ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَه ُ عَلَى رَسُولِه ِِ وَعَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَنزَلَ جُنُودا ً لَمْ تَرَوْهَا وَعَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ وَذَلِكَ جَزَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ |
| Thumma Yatūbu Al-Lahu Min Ba`di Dhālika `Alá Man Yashā'u Wa ۗ Allāhu Ghafūrun Raĥīmun | 009-027* Then later on God will turn towards anyone He wishes. God is Forgiving, Merciful. | ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ اللَّهُ مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ عَلَى مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Innamā Al-Mushrikūna Najasun Falā Yaqrabū Al-Masjida Al-Ĥarāma Ba`da `Āmihim Hādhā ۚ Wa 'In Khiftum `Aylatan Fasawfa Yughnīkumu Al-Lahu Min Fađlihi 'In Shā'a ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha `Alīmun Ĥakīmun | 009-028* You who believe, associators are nothing but filthy, so they should not approach the Hallowed Mosque after this year that they still have. If you should fear destitution, God will enrich you out of His bounty if He so wishes. God is Aware, Wise. | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ فَلاَ يَقْرَبُوا الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ بَعْدَ عَامِهِمْ هَذَا ۚ وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ عَيْلَة ً فَسَوْفَ يُغْنِيكُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ إِنْ شَاءَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Qātilū Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Bil-Lahi Wa Lā Bil-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Lā Yuĥarrimūna Mā Ĥarrama Al-Lahu Wa Rasūluhu Wa Lā Yadīnūna Dīna Al-Ĥaqqi Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Ĥattá Yu`ţū Al-Jizyata `An Yadin Wa Hum Şāghirūna | 009-029* Fight the ones among those who were given the Book who do not believe in God nor the Last Day, nor forbid whatever God and His messenger have forbidden, nor profess the True Religion, until they pay the polltax of their own accord and act submissive. God Has No Son (V) | قَاتِلُوا الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَلاَ بِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَلاَ يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُه ُ وَلاَ يَدِينُونَ دِينَ الْحَقِّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ حَتَّى يُعْطُوا الْجِزْيَةَ عَنْ يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَاغِرُونَ |
| Wa Qālati Al-Yahūdu `Uzayrun Abnu Al-Lahi Wa Qālati An-Naşārá Al-Masīĥu Abnu Al-Lahi ۖ Dhālika Qawluhum Bi'afwāhihim ۖ Yuđāhi'ūna Qawla Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Min Qablu ۚ Qātalahumu Al-Lahu ۚ 'Anná Yu'ufakūna | 009-030* Jews say: "Ezra was God's son," while Christians say: "Christ was God's son." That is what they say with their mouths, imitating what those have said who disbelieved before them. May God fight them off for what they have trumped up! | وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللَّهِ ۖ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُمْ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ ۖ يُضَاهِئُونَ قَوْلَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ ۚ قَاتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ ۚ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ |
| Attakhadhū 'Aĥbārahum Wa Ruhbānahum 'Arbābāan Min Dūni Al-Lahi Wa Al-Masīĥa Abna Maryama Wa Mā 'Umirū 'Illā Liya`budū 'Ilahāan Wāĥidāan ۖ Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa ۚ Subĥānahu `Ammā Yushrikūna | 009-031* They have adopted their scholars and monks as lords instead of God, plus Christ, the son of Mary. Yet they have been ordered to serve only God Alone; there is no deity except Him. Glory be to Him ahead of whatever they may associate [with Him]! | اتَّخَذُوا أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَانَهُمْ أَرْبَابا ً مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَالْمَسِيحَ ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلاَّ لِيَعْبُدُوا إِلَها ً وَاحِدا ً ۖ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ۚ سُبْحَانَه ُ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ |
| Yurīdūna 'An Yuţfi'ū Nūra Al-Lahi Bi'afwāhihim Wa Ya'bá Al-Lahu 'Illā 'An Yutimma Nūrahu Wa Law Kariha Al-Kāfirūna | 009-032* They want to blow out God's light with their mouths while God refuses [everything] except that His light must be perfected, no matter how disbelievers may hate it. | يُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يُطْفِئُوا نُورَ اللَّهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَيَأْبَى اللَّهُ إِلاَّ أَنْ يُتِمَّ نُورَه ُ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ |
| Huwa Al-Ladhī 'Arsala Rasūlahu Bil-Hudá Wa Dīni Al-Ĥaqqi Liyužhirahu `Alá Ad-Dīni Kullihi Wa Law Kariha Al-Mushrikūna | 009-033* He is the One Who has sent His messenger with guidance and the True Religion so He may cause it to prevail over all [other] religion, no matter how associators may hate it. Clergy are Branded | هُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَه ُ بِالْهُدَى وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَه ُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّه ِِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Inna Kathīrāan Mina Al-'Aĥbāri Wa Ar-Ruhbāni Laya'kulūna 'Amwāla An-Nāsi Bil-Bāţili Wa Yaşuddūna `An Sabīli Al-Lahi Wa ۗ Al-Ladhīna Yaknizūna Adh-Dhahaba Wa Al-Fiđđata Wa Lā Yunfiqūnahā Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Fabashshirhum Bi`adhābin 'Alīmin | 009-034* You who believe, many [Jewish] scholars and [Christian] monks do consume people's wealth to no good purpose and they obstruct God's way. Announce painful torment to those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend them for God's sake. | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّ كَثِيرا ً مِنَ الأَحْبَارِ وَالرُّهْبَانِ لَيَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ النَّاسِ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۗ وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ وَلاَ يُنفِقُونَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ |
| Yawma Yuĥmá `Alayhā Fī Nāri Jahannama Fatukwá Bihā Jibāhuhum Wa Junūbuhum Wa Žuhūruhum ۖ Hādhā Mā Kanaztum Li'nfusikum Fadhūqū Mā Kuntum Taknizūna | 009-035* Some day [these metals] will be heated up in Hell fire, so their foreheads, sides and backs may be branded with it: "This is what you have hoarded up for yourselves, so taste what you have been hoarding!" The Hijra Or Sacred Year | يَوْمَ يُحْمَى عَلَيْهَا فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكْوَى بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمْ وَجُنُوبُهُمْ وَظُهُورُهُمْ ۖ هَذَا مَا كَنَزْتُمْ لِأنفُسِكُمْ فَذُوقُوا مَا كُنتُمْ تَكْنِزُونَ |
| 'Inna `Iddata Ash-Shuhūri `Inda Al-Lahi Athnā `Ashara Shahrāan Fī Kitābi Al-Lahi Yawma Khalaqa As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđa Minhā 'Arba`atun Ĥurumun ۚ Dhālika Ad-Dīnu Al-Qayyimu ۚ Falā Tažlimū Fīhinna 'Anfusakum ۚ Wa Qātilū Al-Mushrikīna Kāffatan Kamā Yuqātilūnakum Kāffatan ۚ Wa A`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Ma`a Al-Muttaqīna | 009-036* The number of months with God is twelve: [they were] in God's book on the day He created Heaven and Earth. Out of them, four are sacred; such is the established religion. Do not harm yourselves during them, yet fight associators to a finish, just as they fight you to a finish. Know that God stands by the heedful. | إِنَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُورِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرا ً فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ مِنْهَا أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ ۚ ذَلِكَ الدِّينُ الْقَيِّمُ ۚ فَلاَ تَظْلِمُوا فِيهِنَّ أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۚ وَقَاتِلُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ كَافَّة ً كَمَا يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ كَافَّة ً ۚ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِينَ |
| 'Innamā An-Nasī'u Ziyādatun Fī Al-Kufri ۖ Yuđallu Bihi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Yuĥillūnahu `Āmāan Wa Yuĥarrimūnahu `Āmāan Liyuwāţi'ū `Iddata Mā Ĥarrama Al-Lahu Fayuĥillū Mā Ĥarrama Al-Lahu ۚ Zuyyina Lahum Sū'u 'A`mālihim Wa ۗ Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Al-Kāfirīna | 009-037* Postponing it will only [lead to] an increase in [their] disbelief. those who disbelieve are led astray by it; they permit it one year and ban it another year so they make up for any number that God has forbidden and (even) permit something God has forbidden. Their evil actions seem attractive to them, although God does not guide disbelieving folk. Draft Dodging (VI) | إِنَّمَا النَّسِيءُ زِيَادَةٌ فِي الْكُفْرِ ۖ يُضَلُّ بِهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُحِلُّونَه ُ عَاما ً وَيُحَرِّمُونَه ُ عَاما ً لِيُوَاطِئُوا عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ فَيُحِلُّوا مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ ۚ زُيِّنَ لَهُمْ سُوءُ أَعْمَالِهِمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْكَافِرِينَ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Mā Lakum 'Idhā Qīla Lakum Anfirū Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Aththāqaltum 'Ilá Al-'Arđi ۚ 'Arađītum Bil-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Mina Al-'Ākhirati ۚ Famā Matā`u Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Fī Al-'Ākhirati 'Illā Qalīlun | 009-038* You who believe, what is wrong with you when you are told: 'March off in God's cause!"? Do you feel weighted down to the ground? Are you more satisfied with worldly life than with the [prospect of the] Hereafter? The comfort of worldly life will mean so little in the Hereafter. | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَا لَكُمْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمْ انفِرُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ اثَّاقَلْتُمْ إِلَى الأَرْضِ ۚ أَرَضِيتُمْ بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مِنَ الآخِرَةِ ۚ فَمَا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا فِي الآخِرَةِ إِلاَّ قَلِيلٌ |
| 'Illā Tanfirū Yu`adhdhibkum `Adhābāan 'Alīmāan Wa Yastabdil Qawmāan Ghayrakum Wa Lā Tađurrūhu Shay'āan Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun | 009-039* Unless you march away, He will punish you with painful torment and substitute you with some other folk. You will not harm Him in any way, for God is Capable of everything! | إِلاَّ تَنفِرُوا يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَابا ً أَلِيما ً وَيَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْما ً غَيْرَكُمْ وَلاَ تَضُرُّوه ُ شَيْئا ً ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ |
| 'Illā Tanşurūhu Faqad Naşarahu Al-Lahu 'Idh 'Akhrajahu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Thāniya Athnayni 'Idh Humā Fī Al-Ghāri 'Idh Yaqūlu Lişāĥibihi Lā Taĥzan 'Inna Al-Laha Ma`anā ۖ Fa'anzala Al-Lahu Sakīnatahu `Alayhi Wa 'Ayyadahu Bijunūdin Lam Tarawhā Wa Ja`ala Kalimata Al-Ladhīna Kafarū As-Suflá ۗ Wa Kalimatu Al-Lahi Hiya Al-`Ulyā Wa ۗ Allāhu `Azīzun Ĥakīmun | 009-040* If you do not support him, well God did support him when those who disbelieved expelled him as the second of two, when they were both in the Cave, as he told his companion: "Do not worry; for God is with us." So God sent His serenity down on him and aided him with troops you did not see, and placed the word of those who disbelieved lowest, while God's word remained supreme. God is Powerful, Wise. God | إِلاَّ تَنصُرُوه ُ فَقَدْ نَصَرَهُ اللَّهُ إِذْ أَخْرَجَهُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ثَانِيَ اثْنَيْنِ إِذْ هُمَا فِي الْغَارِ إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَاحِبِهِ لاَ تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا ۖ فَأَنزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَه ُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَه ُ بِجُنُودٍ لَمْ تَرَوْهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا السُّفْلَى ۗ وَكَلِمَةُ اللَّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Anfirū Khifāfāan Wa Thiqālāan Wa Jāhidū Bi'amwālikum Wa 'Anfusikum Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi ۚ Dhālikum Khayrun Lakum 'In Kuntum Ta`lamūna | 009-041* March forth light or heavy [-armed], and strive in God's cause with your property and persons. That will be best for you if you only realize it. | انفِرُوا خِفَافا ً وَثِقَالا ً وَجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنفُسِكُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ |
| Law Kāna `Arađāan Qarībāan Wa Safarāan Qāşidāan Lāttaba`ūka Wa Lakin Ba`udat `Alayhimu Ash-Shuqqatu ۚ Wa Sayaĥlifūna Bil-Lahi Law Astaţa`nā Lakharajnā Ma`akum Yuhlikūna 'Anfusahum Wa Allāhu Ya`lamu 'Innahum Lakādhibūna | 009-042* If there had been some goods to be acquired closer by and on a shorter journey, they would have followed you; but the expedition seemed much too far for them. They will swear by God; "If we could have managed to, we would have left along with you (all)." They destroy their own souls while God knows what liars they are! (VII) | لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضا ً قَرِيبا ً وَسَفَرا ً قَاصِدا ً لاَتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَكِنْ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّقَّةُ ۚ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ لَوْ اسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ يُهْلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ |
| `Afā Al-Lahu `Anka Lima 'Adhinta Lahum Ĥattá Yatabayyana Laka Al-Ladhīna Şadaqū Wa Ta`lama Al-Kādhibīna | 009-043* May God pardon you! Why did you permit them to do so before it was explained to you which ones were truthful so you might recognize the liars? | عَفَا اللَّهُ عَنْكَ لِمَ أَذِ نتَ لَهُمْ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَتَعْلَمَ الْكَاذِبِينَ |
| Lā Yasta'dhinuka Al-Ladhīna Yu'uminūna Bil-Lahi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri 'An Yujāhidū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Bil-Muttaqīna | 009-044* Those who believe in God and the Last Day do not ask you to excuse them from striving with their property and persons. God is Aware as to who are heedful. | لاَ يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَنْ يُجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالْمُتَّقِينَ |
| 'Innamā Yasta'dhinuka Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Bil-Lahi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Artābat Qulūbuhum Fahum Fī Raybihim Yataraddadūna | 009-045* Only those who do not believe in God and the Last Day ask you to excuse them. Their hearts are in such doubt that they even waver in their doubt! Agitators | إِنَّمَا يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَارْتَابَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِي رَيْبِهِمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ |
| Wa Law 'Arādū Al-Khurūja La'a`addū Lahu `Uddatan Wa Lakin Kariha Al-Lahu Anbi`āthahum Fathabbaţahum Wa Qīla Aq`udū Ma`a Al-Qā`idīna | 009-046* If they had wanted to sally forth, they would have made some preparation for it; but God disliked their being delegated to do so, so He let them lag behind. They were told: "Sit around among the shirkers!" | وَلَوْ أَرَادُوا الْخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّوا لَه ُ عُدَّة ً وَلَكِنْ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ انْبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ وَقِيلَ اقْعُدُوا مَعَ الْقَاعِدِينَ |
| Law Kharajū Fīkum Mā Zādūkum 'Illā Khabālāan Wa La'awđa`ū Khilālakum Yabghūnakumu Al-Fitnata Wa Fīkum Sammā`ūna Lahum Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Biž-Žālimīna | 009-047* Even if they had left with you, they would only have meant more turmoil for you; they would have galloped in among you and stirred up dissension for you. Among you there were some who would listen to them. God is Aware of those who do wrong. | لَوْ خَرَجُوا فِيكُمْ مَا زَادُوكُمْ إِلاَّ خَبَالا ً وَلَأَوْضَعُوا خِلاَلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ الْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّاعُونَ لَهُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمِينَ |
| Laqadi Abtaghaw Al-Fitnata Min Qablu Wa Qallabū Laka Al-'Umūra Ĥattá Jā'a Al-Ĥaqqu Wa Žahara 'Amru Al-Lahi Wa Hum Kārihūna | 009-048* They have already sown such dissension previously and upset matters for you until Truth came along and God's command prevailed no matter how they hated it. | لَقَدِ ابْتَغَوُا الْفِتْنَةَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَقَلَّبُوا لَكَ الأُمُورَ حَتَّى جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ وَهُمْ كَارِهُونَ |
| Wa Minhum Man Yaqūlu A'dhan Lī Wa Lā Taftinnī ۚ 'Alā Fī Al-Fitnati Saqaţū ۗ Wa 'Inna Jahannama Lamuĥīţatun Bil-Kāfirīna | 009-049* Among them someone may say: "Leave me alone and do not stir me up." Have they not already fallen into dissension? Hell will engulf dis-believers! | وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ ائْذَنْ لِي وَلاَ تَفْتِنِّي ۚ أَلاَ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا ۗ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌ بِالْكَافِرِينَ |
| 'In Tuşibka Ĥasanatun Tasu'uhum ۖ Wa 'In Tuşibka Muşībatun Yaqūlū Qad 'Akhadhnā 'Amranā Min Qablu Wa Yatawallaw Wa Hum Fariĥūna | 009-050* If some fine thing happens to you, it bothers them, while misfortune happens to you, they say: 'We already took our matter in had previously." They stalk away rejoicing. | إِنْ تُصِبْكَ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ تُصِبْكَ مُصِيبَةٌ يَقُولُوا قَدْ أَخَذْنَا أَمْرَنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَيَتَوَلَّوا وَهُمْ فَرِحُونَ |
| Qul Lan Yuşībanā 'Illā Mā Kataba Al-Lahu Lanā Huwa Mawlānā ۚ Wa `Alá Al-Lahi Falyatawakkali Al-Mu'uminūna | 009-051* SAY: "Nothing will ever happen to us unless God has prescribed it." He is our Protector, and on God [Alone] should believers rely." | قُلْ لَنْ يُصِيبَنَا إِلاَّ مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوْلاَنَا ۚ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ |
| Qul Hal Tarabbaşūna Binā 'Illā 'Iĥdá Al-Ĥusnayayni ۖ Wa Naĥnu Natarabbaşu Bikum 'An Yuşībakumu Al-Lahu Bi`adhābin Min `Indihi 'Aw Bi'aydīnā ۖ Fatarabbaşū 'Innā Ma`akum Mutarabbişūna | 009-052* SAY: "Are you expecting only one of out two fine things for us, while we are expecting you to have God afflict you with torment from His very presence or at our hands? So wait around we are waiting along with you." | قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَا إِلاَّ إِحْدَى الْحُسْنَيَيْنِ ۖ وَنَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِعَذَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ أَوْ بِأَيْدِينَا ۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُتَرَبِّصُونَ |
| Qul 'Anfiqū Ţaw`āan 'Aw Karhāan Lan Yutaqabbala Minkum ۖ 'Innakum Kuntum Qawmāan Fāsiqīna | 009-053* SAY: "Spend either willingly or unwillingly, it will never be accepted from you, since you have been such immoral folk." | قُلْ أَنفِقُوا طَوْعا ً أَوْ كَرْها ً لَنْ يُتَقَبَّلَ مِنْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ قَوْما ً فَاسِقِينَ |
| Wa Mā Mana`ahum 'An Tuqbala Minhum Nafaqātuhum 'Illā 'Annahum Kafarū Bil-Lahi Wa Birasūlihi Wa Lā Ya'tūna Aş-Şalāata 'Illā Wa Hum Kusālá Wa Lā Yunfiqūna 'Illā Wa Hum Kārihūna | 009-054* The reason that prevents them from having their expenditures accepted from them is merely that they have disbelieved in God and His messenger and do not come to pray except when they are lazy, nor do they spend anything [on charity or taxes] unless they are reluctant. | وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ أَنْ تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقَاتُهُمْ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِاللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِه ِِ وَلاَ يَأْتُونَ الصَّلاَةَ إِلاَّ وَهُمْ كُسَالَى وَلاَ يُنفِقُونَ إِلاَّ وَهُمْ كَارِهُونَ |
| Falā Tu`jibka 'Amwāluhum Wa Lā 'Awlāduhum ۚ 'Innamā Yurīdu Al-Lahu Liyu`adhdhibahum Bihā Fī Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Wa Tazhaqa 'Anfusuhum Wa Hum Kāfirūna | 009-055* Do not let their wealth nor children astonish you; God only wants to punish them by means of them during worldly life and for their souls to perish while they are disbelievers. | فَلاَ تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلاَ أَوْلاَدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَافِرُونَ |
| Wa Yaĥlifūna Bil-Lahi 'Innahum Laminkum Wa Mā Hum Minkum Wa Lakinnahum Qawmun Yafraqūna | 009-056* They swear by God that they are with you while they do not stand with you, but are a folk who are easily scared off. | وَيَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَمِنْكُمْ وَمَا هُمْ مِنْكُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَفْرَقُونَ |
| Law Yajidūna Malja'an 'Aw Maghārātin 'Aw Muddakhalāan Lawallaw 'Ilayhi Wa Hum Yajmaĥūna | 009-057* If they should find some refuge or some caverns, or an entrance they could creep into, they would bolt away! | لَوْ يَجِدُونَ مَلْجَأً أَوْ مَغَارَاتٍ أَوْ مُدَّخَلا ً لَوَلَّوْا إِلَيْهِ وَهُمْ يَجْمَحُونَ |
| Wa Minhum Man Yalmizuka Fī Aş-Şadaqāti Fa'in 'U`ţū Minhā Rađū Wa 'In Lam Yu`ţaw Minhā 'Idhā Hum Yaskhaţūna | 009-058* Some of them criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charity. If they are given some of it, they are pleased, while if they are not given any, why they act resentful. | وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَلْمِزُكَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ فَإِنْ أُعْطُوا مِنْهَا رَضُوا وَإِنْ لَمْ يُعْطَوْا مِنْهَا إِذَا هُمْ يَسْخَطُونَ |
| Wa Law 'Annahum Rađū Mā 'Ātāhumu Al-Lahu Wa Rasūluhu Wa Qālū Ĥasbunā Al-Lahu Sayu'utīnā Al-Lahu Min Fađlihi Wa Rasūluhu 'Innā 'Ilá Al-Lahi Rāghibūna | 009-059* If they had only been pleased with what God and His messenger have given them, and said: 'God is our Reckoning. God and His messenger will give us something out of His bounty. We are beseeching fit] from God." Charity (cont'd) (VIII) | وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ رَضُوا مَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُه ُ وَقَالُوا حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ سَيُؤْتِينَا اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِه ِِ وَرَسُولُهُ~ُ إِنَّا إِلَى اللَّهِ رَاغِبُونَ |
| 'Innamā Aş-Şadaqātu Lilfuqarā'i Wa Al-Masākīni Wa Al-`Āmilīna `Alayhā Wa Al-Mu'uallafati Qulūbuhum Wa Fī Ar-Riqābi Wa Al-Ghārimīna Wa Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Wa Aibni As-Sabīli ۖ Farīđatan Mina Al-Lahi Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun | 009-060* Charity is [meant] only for the poor, the needy, those working at [collecting and distributing] it, those [possible converts] whose hearts are being reconciled [to yours], for freeing captives and debtors, and in [striving along] God's way, and for the wayfarer, as a duty imposed by God. God is Aware, Wise. | إِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْعَامِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَالْغَارِمِينَ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاِبْنِ السَّبِيلِ ۖ فَرِيضَة ً مِنَ اللَّهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Wa Minhumu Al-Ladhīna Yu'udhūna An-Nabīya Wa Yaqūlūna Huwa 'Udhunun ۚ Qul 'Udhunu Khayrin Lakum Yu'uminu Bil-Lahi Wa Yu'uminu Lilmu'uminīna Wa Raĥmatun Lilladhīna 'Āmanū Minkum Wa ۚ Al-Ladhīna Yu'udhūna Rasūla Al-Lahi Lahum `Adhābun 'Alīmun | 009-061* There are some (people] who annoy the Prophet by saying: "He's (all) ears!" SAY: '[He's] an ear for good for you! He believes in God and believes for the believers' sake, and is a mercy for any of you who do believe.' Those who annoy God's messenger will have painful torment. | وَمِنْهُمُ الَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ النَّبِيَّ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ أُذُنٌ ۚ قُلْ أُذُنُ خَيْرٍ لَكُمْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَيُؤْمِنُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَرَحْمَة ٌ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ |
| Yaĥlifūna Bil-Lahi Lakum Liyurđūkum Wa Allāhu Wa Rasūluhu 'Aĥaqqu 'An Yurđūhu 'In Kānū Mu'uminīna | 009-062* They swear by God for you just to please you (all). It is more correct to please God and His messenger if they are [really] believers, | يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ لَكُمْ لِيُرْضُوكُمْ وَاللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ~ُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُرْضُوهُ~ُ إِنْ كَانُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ |
| 'Alam Ya`lamū 'Annahu Man Yuĥādidi Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu Fa'anna Lahu Nāra Jahannama Khālidāan Fīhā ۚ Dhālika Al-Khizyu Al-`Ažīmu | 009-063* Do they not know that anyone who places any limits on God and His messenger will have Hell fire to remain in for ever? That will be an awful disgrace! Hypocrites | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوا أَنَّه ُ مَنْ يُحَادِدِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُ فَأَنَّ لَه ُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدا ً فِيهَا ۚ ذَلِكَ الْخِزْيُ الْعَظِيمُ |
| Yaĥdharu Al-Munāfiqūna 'An Tunazzala `Alayhim Sūratun Tunabbi'uhum Bimā Fī Qulūbihim ۚ Quli Astahzi'ū 'Inna Al-Laha Mukhrijun Mā Taĥdharūna | 009-064* Hypocrites act anxious lest a chapter be sent down for them to notify them as to what is in their hearts. SAY: 'Joke away: God will produce what you are so anxious about." | يَحْذَرُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ أَنْ تُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُورَةٌ تُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ قُلِ اسْتَهْزِئُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ مُخْرِجٌ مَا تَحْذَرُونَ |
| Wa La'in Sa'altahum Layaqūlunna 'Innamā Kunnā Nakhūđu Wa Nal`abu ۚ Qul 'Abiālllahi Wa 'Āyātihi Wa Rasūlihi Kuntum Tastahzi'ūna | 009-065* If you question them, they say: 'We have only been toying (with words) and playing around." SAY: "Have you been joking about God, and His signs and His messengers Turncoats | وَلَئِنْ سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُ ۚ قُلْ أَبِاللَّهِ وَآيَاتِه ِِ وَرَسُولِه ِِ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ |
| Lā Ta`tadhirū Qad Kafartum Ba`da 'Īmānikum ۚ 'In Na`fu `An Ţā'ifatin Minkum Nu`adhdhib Ţā'ifatan Bi'annahum Kānū Mujrimīna | 009-066* Make no excuses! You have disbelieved following your profession of faith. If We should pardon one faction of you, we will punish another faction since they have been such criminals. (IX) | لاَ تَعْتَذِرُوا قَدْ كَفَرْتُمْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ ۚ إِنْ نَعْفُ عَنْ طَائِفَةٍ مِنْكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَائِفَة ً بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ |
| Al-Munāfiqūna Wa Al-Munāfiqātu Ba`đuhum Min Ba`đin ۚ Ya'murūna Bil-Munkari Wa Yanhawna `Ani Al-Ma`rūfi Wa Yaqbiđūna 'Aydiyahum ۚ Nasū Al-Laha Fanasiyahum ۗ 'Inna Al-Munāfiqīna Humu Al-Fāsiqūna | 009-067* Hypocrites, whether men or women, resemble one another: they command wickedness, forbid decency, and clench their fists. They have forgotten God, so He has forgotten them. Hypocrites are so immoral! | الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمُنْكَرِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَقْبِضُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ ۚ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ |
| Wa`ada Al-Lahu Al-Munāfiqīna Wa Al-Munāfiqāti Wa Al-Kuffāra Nāra Jahannama Khālidīna Fīhā ۚ Hiya Ĥasbuhum ۚ Wa La`anahumu Al-Lahu ۖ Wa Lahum `Adhābun Muqīmun | 009-068* God has promised hypocrites, whether they are men or women, as well as [outright] disbelievers, Hell fire to live in for ever: it will be their reckoning. God has cursed them, and they will have constant torment. | وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتِ وَالْكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ هِيَ حَسْبُهُمْ ۚ وَلَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُقِيمٌ |
| Kālladhīna Min Qablikum Kānū 'Ashadda Minkum Qūwatan Wa 'Akthara 'Amwālāan Wa 'Awlādāan Fāstamta`ū Bikhalāqihim Fāstamta`tum Bikhalāqikum Kamā Astamta`a Al-Ladhīna Min Qablikum Bikhalāqihim Wa Khuđtum Kālladhī Khāđū ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Ĥabiţat 'A`māluhum Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Al-'Ākhirati ۖ Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Khāsirūna | 009-069* Just as those before them were firmer than you are in strength, and possessed more wealth and children, and they exploited their advantage, even so have you sought to enjoy your opportunity, just as those who came before you enjoyed their advantage. You have talked a lot just as they have talked on and on. Yet those [will find] their actions will miscarry in this world and the Hereafter; those will be the losers! | كَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ كَانُوا أَشَدَّ مِنْكُمْ قُوَّة ً وَأَكْثَرَ أَمْوَالا ً وَأَوْلاَدا ً فَاسْتَمْتَعُوا بِخَلاَقِهِمْ فَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِخَلاَقِكُمْ كَمَا اسْتَمْتَعَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ بِخَلاَقِهِمْ وَخُضْتُمْ كَالَّذِي خَاضُوا ۚ أُوْلَائِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ ۖ وَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ |
| 'Alam Ya'tihim Naba'u Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Qawmi Nūĥin Wa `Ādin Wa Thamūda Wa Qawmi 'Ibrāhīma Wa 'Aşĥābi Madyana Wa Al-Mu'utafikāti ۚ 'Atat/hum Rusuluhum Bil-Bayyināti ۖ Famā Kāna Al-Lahu Liyažlimahum Wa Lakin Kānū 'Anfusahum Yažlimūna | 009-070* Has not the story come to them about those who preceded them, Noah's folk, and Ad's and Thamiid's, and Abraham's folk and the inhabitants of Midian and the Overthrown [Towns]? Their messengers brought them clear explanations; it was not God Who injured them, but they themselves who inflicted the injury. | أَلَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ نَبَأُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَعَادٍ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوْمِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَأَصْحَابِ مَدْيَنَ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتِ ۚ أَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالبَيِّنَاتِ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَكِنْ كَانُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ |
| Wa Al-Mu'uminūna Wa Al-Mu'uminātu Ba`đuhum 'Awliyā'u Ba`đin ۚ Ya'murūna Bil-Ma`rūfi Wa Yanhawna `Ani Al-Munkari Wa Yuqīmūna Aş-Şalāata Wa Yu'utūna Az-Zakāata Wa Yuţī`ūna Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Sayarĥamuhumu Al-Lahu ۗ 'Inna Al-Laha `Azīzun Ĥakīmun | 009-071* Believers, whether men or women, must [act as] friends to one another; they should command decency and forbid wickedness, keep up prayer, and pay the welfare tax as well as obey God and His messenger. Those God will grant mercy to; God is Powerful, Wise! | وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلاَةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ وَيُطِيعُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ~ُ ۚ أُوْلَائِكَ سَيَرْحَمُهُمُ اللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Wa`ada Al-Lahu Al-Mu'uminīna Wa Al-Mu'umināti Jannātin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā Wa Masākina Ţayyibatan Fī Jannāti `Adnin ۚ Wa Riđwānun Mina Al-Lahi 'Akbaru ۚ Dhālika Huwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu | 009-072* God has promised believers, whether they are men or women, gardens through which rivers flow to live in for ever, and goodly dwellings in the gardens o Eden. Yet approval by God is test; that will be the supreme Achievement! (X) | وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَمَسَاكِنَ طَيِّبَة ً فِي جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ ۚ وَرِضْوَانٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā An-Nabīyu Jāhidi Al-Kuffāra Wa Al-Munāfiqīna Wa Aghluž `Alayhim ۚ Wa Ma'wāhum Jahannamu ۖ Wa Bi'sa Al-Maşīru | 009-073* 0 Prophet, struggle with disbelievers and hypocrites; deal harshly with them: their lodging will be Hell, and how awful is such a destination. | يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ |
| Yaĥlifūna Bil-Lahi Mā Qālū Wa Laqad Qālū Kalimata Al-Kufri Wa Kafarū Ba`da 'Islāmihim Wa Hammū Bimā Lam Yanālū ۚ Wa Mā Naqamū 'Illā 'An 'Aghnāhumu Al-Lahu Wa Rasūluhu Min Fađlihi ۚ Fa'in Yatūbū Yaku Khayrāan Lahum ۖ Wa 'In Yatawallaw Yu`adhdhibhumu Al-Lahu `Adhābāan 'Alīmāan Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Al-'Ākhirati ۚ Wa Mā Lahum Fī Al-'Arđi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Naşīrin | 009-074* They swear by God they have said nothing while they did pronounce the word of disbelief, they disbelieve after their commitment to [live in] peace; and worry over what they do not accomplish. How spitefully they act merely because God and His messenger have enriched them out of His bounty. If they should repent, it would be better for them; while if they turn back again, God will punish them with painful torment in this world and the Hereafter. They will have no sponsor nor any supporter on earth. | يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ مَا قَالُوا وَلَقَدْ قَالُوا كَلِمَةَ الْكُفْرِ وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِمْ وَهَمُّوا بِمَا لَمْ يَنَالُوا ۚ وَمَا نَقَمُوا إِلاَّ أَنْ أَغْنَاهُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُه ُ مِنْ فَضْلِه ِِ ۚ فَإِنْ يَتُوبُوا يَكُ خَيْرا ً لَهُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ يَتَوَلَّوْا يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللَّهُ عَذَابا ً أَلِيما ً فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ نَصِيرٍ |
| Wa Minhum Man `Āhada Al-Laha La'in 'Ātānā Min Fađlihi Lanaşşaddaqanna Wa Lanakūnanna Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna | 009-075* Some of them have pledged to God: "If He gives us some of His bounty, we will act charitably and be loyal." | وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ عَاهَدَ اللَّهَ لَئِنْ آتَانَا مِنْ فَضْلِه ِِ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَلَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ |
| Falammā 'Ātāhum Min Fađlihi Bakhilū Bihi Wa Tawallaw Wa Hum Mu`riđūna | 009-076* Yet whenever He has given them some of His bounty, they have acted miserably with it: they turn away and become evasive; | فَلَمَّا آتَاهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِه ِِ بَخِلُوا بِه ِِ وَتَوَلَّوا وَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ |
| Fa'a`qabahum Nifāqāan Fī Qulūbihim 'Ilá Yawmi Yalqawnahu Bimā 'Akhlafū Al-Laha Mā Wa`adūhu Wa Bimā Kānū Yakdhibūna | 009-077* so He planted hypocrisy in their hearts till the day when they will meet Him because they broke their word to God which they had promised Him and for how they had been lying. | فَأَعْقَبَهُمْ نِفَاقا ً فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ يَلْقَوْنَه ُ بِمَا أَخْلَفُوا اللَّهَ مَا وَعَدُوه ُ وَبِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ |
| 'Alam Ya`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Ya`lamu Sirrahum Wa Najwāhum Wa 'Anna Al-Laha `Allāmu Al-Ghuyūbi | 009-078* Do they not realize that God knows their secrets and their intrigue, and that God is the Knower of Unseen things? | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَاهُمْ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِ |
| Al-Ladhīna Yalmizūna Al-Muţţawwi`īna Mina Al-Mu'uminīna Fī Aş-Şadaqāti Wa Al-Ladhīna Lā Yajidūna 'Illā Juhdahum Fayaskharūna Minhum ۙ Sakhira Al-Lahu Minhum Wa Lahum `Adhābun 'Alīmun | 009-079* May God scoff at those who criticize such believers as dedicate themselves to charitable works those who do not find anything [to offer] except their own effort, so they scoff at them too. They will have painful torment. | الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يَجِدُونَ إِلاَّ جُهْدَهُمْ فَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنْهُمْ ۙ سَخِرَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ |
| Astaghfir Lahum 'Aw Lā Tastaghfir Lahum 'In Tastaghfir Lahum Sab`īna Marratan Falan Yaghfira Al-Lahu Lahum ۚ Dhālika Bi'annahum Kafarū Bil-Lahi Wa Rasūlihi Wa ۗ Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Al-Fāsiqīna | 009-080* Seek forgiveness for them or else do not seek forgiveness for them; even if you sought forgiveness for them seventy times over, God would never pardon them. That is because they disbelieve in God and His messenger. God does not guide immoral folk. Shirkers Again (XI) | اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لاَ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِنْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّة ً فَلَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ ۚ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِه ِِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْفَاسِقِينَ |
| Fariĥa Al-Mukhallafūna Bimaq`adihim Khilāfa Rasūli Al-Lahi Wa Karihū 'An Yujāhidū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Wa Qālū Lā Tanfirū Fī Al-Ĥarri ۗ Qul Nāru Jahannama 'Ashaddu Ĥarrāan ۚ Law Kānū Yafqahūna | 009-081* Those who were left behind are delighted to sit around inactive behind God's messenger, and they hate to struggle in God's way with their property and persons. They say: 'Don't march off in such heat!" SAY: 'Hell fire will be even hotter," if they could only understand. | فَرِحَ الْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلاَفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوا أَنْ يُجَاهِدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَقَالُوا لاَ تَنفِرُوا فِي الْحَرِّ ۗ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرّا ً ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَفْقَهُونَ |
| Falyađĥakū Qalīlāan Wa Līabkū Kathīrāan Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Yaksibūna | 009-082* Let them laugh a little and weep a lot as a reward for what they have been earning. | فَلْيَضْحَكُوا قَلِيلا ً وَلْيَبْكُوا كَثِيرا ً جَزَاء ً بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ |
| Fa'in Raja`aka Al-Lahu 'Ilá Ţā'ifatin Minhum Fāsta'dhanūka Lilkhurūji Faqul Lan Takhrujū Ma`iya 'Abadāan Wa Lan Tuqātilū Ma`iya `Adūwāan ۖ 'Innakum Rađītum Bil-Qu`ūdi 'Awwala Marratin Fāq`udū Ma`a Al-Khālifīna | 009-083* If God should send you back to a faction of them, a they should ask you for permission to sally forth, SAY: "You will never march forth with me, nor fight any enemy alongside me! You were satisfied to sit around inactive in the first instance, so sit around [now] with the stay-behinds." | فَإِنْ رَجَعَكَ اللَّهُ إِلَى طَائِفَةٍ مِنْهُمْ فَاسْتَأْذَنُوكَ لِلْخُرُوجِ فَقُلْ لَنْ تَخْرُجُوا مَعِيَ أَبَدا ً وَلَنْ تُقَاتِلُوا مَعِيَ عَدُوّا ً ۖ إِنَّكُمْ رَضِيتُمْ بِالْقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَاقْعُدُوا مَعَ الْخَالِفِينَ |
| Wa Lā Tuşalli `Alá 'Aĥadin Minhum Māta 'Abadāan Wa Lā Taqum `Alá Qabrihi ۖ 'Innahum Kafarū Bil-Lahi Wa Rasūlihi Wa Mātū Wa Hum Fāsiqūna | 009-084* Never pray over any of them who dies nor stand at his graveside: they have disbelieved in God and His messenger, and died while they were rebellious. | وَلاَ تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدا ً وَلاَ تَقُمْ عَلَى قَبْرِهِ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِه ِِ وَمَاتُوا وَهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ |
| Wa Lā Tu`jibka 'Amwāluhum Wa 'Awlāduhum ۚ 'Innamā Yurīdu Al-Lahu 'An Yu`adhdhibahum Bihā Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Tazhaqa 'Anfusuhum Wa Hum Kāfirūna | 009-085* Do not let their wealth and children astonish you; God only wants to punish them by means of them during this world, and let their souls perish while they are disbelievers. | وَلاَ تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَأَوْلاَدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَافِرُونَ |
| Wa 'Idhā 'Unzilat Sūratun 'An 'Āminū Bil-Lahi Wa Jāhidū Ma`a Rasūlihi Asta'dhanaka 'Ūlū Aţ-Ţawli Minhum Wa Qālū Dharnā Nakun Ma`a Al-Qā`idīna | 009-086* Whenever a chapter is sent down saying: "Believe in God and struggle alongside His messenger," influential persons among them ask you to exempt them and say [instead]: 'Let us stay with those who are just sitting around." | وَإِذَا أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَجَاهِدُوا مَعَ رَسُولِهِ اسْتَأْذَنَكَ أُوْلُوا الطَّوْلِ مِنْهُمْ وَقَالُوا ذَرْنَا نَكُنْ مَعَ الْقَاعِدِينَ |
| Rađū Bi'an Yakūnū Ma`a Al-Khawālifi Wa Ţubi`a `Alá Qulūbihim Fahum Lā Yafqahūna | 009-087* They are so pleased to be among the stay-behinds. It is stamped on their hearts so they do not understand; | رَضُوا بِأَنْ يَكُونُوا مَعَ الْخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لاَ يَفْقَهُونَ |
| Lakini Ar-Rasūlu Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Ma`ahu Jāhadū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim ۚ Wa 'Ūlā'ika Lahumu Al-Khayrātu ۖ Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mufliĥūna | 009-088* but the Messenger and those who believe along with him, do struggle with their property and persons. Those will have even better things; such will be successful! | لَكِنِ الرَّسُولُ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَه ُ جَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ وَأُوْلَائِكَ لَهُمُ الْخَيْرَاتُ ۖ وَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ |
| 'A`adda Al-Lahu Lahum Jannātin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā ۚ Dhālika Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu | 009-089* God has prepared gardens through which rivers will flow for them to live in forever; that will be the supreme Achievement! Nomads (XII) | أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ |
| Wa Jā'a Al-Mu`adhdhirūna Mina Al-'A`rābi Liyu'udhana Lahum Wa Qa`ada Al-Ladhīna Kadhabū Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu ۚ Sayuşību Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Minhum `Adhābun 'Alīmun | 009-090* Excuse-makers have come from the desert Arabs to beg off for them. Those who tell lies before God and His messenger have merely sat around (at home). Painful torment will afflict those of them who disbelieve. | وَجَاءَ الْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ لِيُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ وَقَعَدَ الَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُ ۚ سَيُصِيبُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ |
| Laysa `Alá Ađ-Đu`afā'i Wa Lā `Alá Al-Marđá Wa Lā `Alá Al-Ladhīna Lā Yajidūna Mā Yunfiqūna Ĥarajun 'Idhā Naşaĥū Lillahi Wa Rasūlihi ۚ Mā `Alá Al-Muĥsinīna Min Sabīlin Wa ۚ Allāhu Ghafūrun Raĥīmun | 009-091* Yet it will not be held against the helpless nor the sick, nor those who cannot find anything to spend [on God's cause], provided they act sincerely towards God and His messenger; there is no way [open] against those who act kindly since God is Forgiving, Merciful. | لَيْسَ عَلَى الضُّعَفَاءِ وَلاَ عَلَى الْمَرْضَى وَلاَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ لاَ يَجِدُونَ مَا يُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُوا لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِه ِِ ۚ مَا عَلَى الْمُحْسِنِينَ مِنْ سَبِيلٍ ۚ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ |
| Wa Lā `Alá Al-Ladhīna 'Idhā Mā 'Atawka Litaĥmilahum Qulta Lā 'Ajidu Mā 'Aĥmilukum `Alayhi Tawallaw Wa 'A`yunuhum Tafīđu Mina Ad-Dam`i Ĥazanāan 'Allā Yajidū Mā Yunfiqūna | 009-092* Nor [will it be held] against those whom you told, when they came for you to transport them: "I do not find any means of transporting you." They turned away, and their eyes were welling up with tears from sadness since they could not find any way to provide for their expenses. | وَلاَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ إِذَا مَا أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قُلْتَ لاَ أَجِدُ مَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ تَوَلَّوا وَأَعْيُنُهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ حَزَنا ً أَلاَّ يَجِدُوا مَا يُنفِقُونَ |
| 'Innamā As-Sabīlu `Alá Al-Ladhīna Yasta'dhinūnaka Wa Hum 'Aghniyā'u ۚ Rađū Bi'an Yakūnū Ma`a Al-Khawālifi Wa Ţaba`a Al-Lahu `Alá Qulūbihim Fahum Lā Ya`lamūna | 009-093* A way is [open] only against those who beg you to exempt them while they are rich; they are satisfied to be [numbered] among those who stay behind. God has placed a stamp on their hearts while they do not realize it. PART ELEVEN (XII cont'd) | إِنَّمَا السَّبِيلُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَكَ وَهُمْ أَغْنِيَاءُ ۚ رَضُوا بِأَنْ يَكُونُوا مَعَ الْخَوَالِفِ وَطَبَعَ اللَّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ |
| Ya`tadhirūna 'Ilaykum 'Idhā Raja`tum 'Ilayhim ۚ Qul Lā Ta`tadhirū Lan Nu'umina Lakum Qad Nabba'anā Al-Lahu Min 'Akhbārikum ۚ Wa Sayará Al-Lahu `Amalakum Wa Rasūluhu Thumma Turaddūna 'Ilá `Ālimi Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Fayunabbi'ukum Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna | 009-094* They will apologize to you when you (all) return to them. SAY: "Don't apologize; we will never believe you! God has already notified us concerning everything about you. God and His messenger will see how you act; then you will be sent back to the Knower of the Unseen and the visible, and he will notify you about whatever you have been doing." | يَعْتَذِرُونَ إِلَيْكُمْ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ قُلْ لاَ تَعْتَذِرُوا لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكُمْ قَدْ نَبَّأَنَا اللَّهُ مِنْ أَخْبَارِكُمْ ۚ وَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُه ُ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ |
| Sayaĥlifūna Bil-Lahi Lakum 'Idhā Anqalabtum 'Ilayhim Litu`riđū `Anhum ۖ Fa'a`riđū `Anhum ۖ 'Innahum Rijsun ۖ Wa Ma'wāhum Jahannamu Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Yaksibūna | 009-095* They will swear [anything] to you by God when you go back home to them, provided you will overlook them. Overlook them anyhow: they are a blight and their lodging will be Hell as a compensation for what they have been earning. | سَيَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ لَكُمْ إِذَا انقَلَبْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لِتُعْرِضُوا عَنْهُمْ ۖ فَأَعْرِضُوا عَنْهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ رِجْسٌ ۖ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ جَزَاء ً بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ |
| Yaĥlifūna Lakum Litarđaw `Anhum ۖ Fa'in Tarđaw `Anhum Fa'inna Al-Laha Lā Yarđá `Ani Al-Qawmi Al-Fāsiqīna | 009-096* They swear to you so you will (all) feel satisfied with them. Even if you should approve of them, God is still not pleased with such immoral folk. | يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْا عَنْهُمْ ۖ فَإِنْ تَرْضَوْا عَنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَرْضَى عَنِ الْقَوْمِ الْفَاسِقِينَ |
| Al-'A`rābu 'Ashaddu Kufrāan Wa Nifāqāan Wa 'Ajdaru 'Allā Ya`lamū Ĥudūda Mā 'Anzala Al-Lahu `Alá Rasūlihi Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun | 009-097* Desert Arabs are quite stubborn when it comes to disbelief and hypocrisy, and the least inclined to acknowledge the limits that God has revealed to His messenger; yet God is Aware, Wise. | الأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرا ً وَنِفَاقا ً وَأَجْدَرُ أَلاَّ يَعْلَمُوا حُدُودَ مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُولِه ِِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Wa Mina Al-'A`rābi Man Yattakhidhu Mā Yunfiqu Maghramāan Wa Yatarabbaşu Bikumu Ad-Dawā'ira ۚ `Alayhim Dā'iratu As-Saw'i Wa ۗ Allāhu Samī`un `Alīmun | 009-098* Some desert tribesmen assume that anything they spend [in taxes] is a fine, and they try to catch you in some reverses. On them will fall the worst reversed. God is Alert, Aware. | وَمِنَ الأَعْرَابِ مَنْ يَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ مَغْرَما ً وَيَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ الدَّوَائِرَ ۚ عَلَيْهِمْ دَائِرَةُ السَّوْءِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ |
| Wa Mina Al-'A`rābi Man Yu'uminu Bil-Lahi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Yattakhidhu Mā Yunfiqu Qurubātin `Inda Al-Lahi Wa Şalawāti Ar-Rasūli ۚ 'Alā 'Innahā Qurbatun Lahum ۚ Sayudkhiluhumu Al-Lahu Fī Raĥmatihi ۗ 'Inna Al-Laha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun | 009-099* Still other desert Arabs believe in God and the Last Day, and consider anything that is spent as a means of access to God and the Messengers prayers. Yet are they indeed not such an access for them? God will admit them into His mercy; God is Forgiving, Merciful! (XIII) | وَمِنَ الأَعْرَابِ مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَيَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ قُرُبَاتٍ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَصَلَوَاتِ الرَّسُولِ ۚ أَلاَ إِنَّهَا قُرْبَة ٌ لَهُمْ ۚ سَيُدْخِلُهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي رَحْمَتِهِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ |
| Wa As-Sābiqūna Al-'Awwalūna Mina Al-Muhājirīna Wa Al-'Anşāri Wa Al-Ladhīna Attaba`ūhum Bi'iĥsānin Rađiya Al-Lahu `Anhum Wa Rađū `Anhu Wa 'A`adda Lahum Jannātin Tajrī Taĥtahā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā 'Abadāan ۚ Dhālika Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu | 009-100* Pioneers comprise the first Migrants and Supporters, as well as those who have adhered to them by showing any kindness. God is pleased with them, while they are pleased with Him; He has prepared gardens through which rivers flow for them to remain in for ever. That will mean the supreme Achievement! | وَالسَّابِقُونَ الأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالأَنصَارِ وَالَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُمْ بِإِحْسَانٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي تَحْتَهَا الأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدا ً ۚ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ |
| Wa Mimman Ĥawlakum Mina Al-'A`rābi Munāfiqūna ۖ Wa Min 'Ahli Al-Madīnati ۖ Maradū `Alá An-Nifāqi Lā Ta`lamuhum ۖ Naĥnu Na`lamuhum ۚ Sanu`adhdhibuhum Marratayni Thumma Yuraddūna 'Ilá `Adhābin `Ažīmin | 009-101* Some desert Arabs around you are hypocrites as well as some of the people from Madina; they even persist in hypocrisy. You do not know them; however We know them. We shall punish them twice; then they will be handed over to terrible torment. | وَمِمَّنْ حَوْلَكُمْ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ مُنَافِقُونَ ۖ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ ۖ مَرَدُوا عَلَى النِّفَاقِ لاَ تَعْلَمُهُمْ ۖ نَحْنُ نَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ سَنُعَذِّبُهُمْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَذَابٍ عَظِيمٍ |
| Wa 'Ākharūna A`tarafū Bidhunūbihim Khalaţū `Amalāan Şāliĥāan Wa 'Ākhara Sayyi'āan `Asá Al-Lahu 'An Yatūba `Alayhim ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun | 009-102* Others have acknowledged their offences. They have mixed upon honorable action with another evil one. Perhaps God will relent towards them; for God is Forgiving, Merciful. | وَآخَرُونَ اعْتَرَفُوا بِذُنُوبِهِمْ خَلَطُوا عَمَلا ً صَالِحا ً وَآخَرَ سَيِّئا ً عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ |
| Khudh Min 'Amwālihim Şadaqatan Tuţahhiruhum Wa Tuzakkīhim Bihā Wa Şalli `Alayhim ۖ 'Inna Şalātaka Sakanun Lahum Wa ۗ Allāhu Samī`un `Alīmun | 009-103* Accept charity out of their wealth you will cleanse and purify them by means of it. Pray for them; your prayers will mean relief for them. God is Alert, Aware. | خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَة ً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِمْ بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنَّ صَلاَتَكَ سَكَن ٌ لَهُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ |
| 'Alam Ya`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Huwa Yaqbalu At-Tawbata `An `Ibādihi Wa Ya'khudhu Aş-Şadaqāti Wa 'Anna Al-Laha Huwa At-Tawwābu Ar-Raĥīmu | 009-104* Do they not know that it is God Who receives Repentance from His servants and accepts such acts of charity, and that God is the Ever-Turning, the Merciful? | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ يَقْبَلُ التَّوبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِه ِِ وَيَأْخُذُ الصَّدَقَاتِ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ |
| Wa Quli A`malū Fasayará Al-Lahu `Amalakum Wa Rasūluhu Wa Al-Mu'uminūna ۖ Wa Saturaddūna 'Ilá `Ālimi Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Fayunabbi'ukum Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna | 009-105* SAY: "Work away; God will see your labor, and so will His messenger and believers. You will be brought back to the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible, and He will notify you about how well you have been working." | وَقُلِ اعْمَلُوا فَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُه ُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۖ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ |
| Wa 'Ākharūna Murjawna Li'amri Al-Lahi 'Immā Yu`adhdhibuhum Wa 'Immā Yatūbu `Alayhim Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun | 009-106* Others are still expecting [to receive] God's command, [and to see] whether He will punish them or relent towards them. God is Aware, Wise. | وَآخَرُونَ مُرْجَوْنَ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ إِمَّا يُعَذِّبُهُمْ وَإِمَّا يَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Wa Al-Ladhīna Attakhadhū Masjidāan Đirārāan Wa Kufrāan Wa Tafrīqāan Bayna Al-Mu'uminīna Wa 'Irşādāan Liman Ĥāraba Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu Min Qablu ۚ Wa Layaĥlifunna 'In 'Aradnā 'Illā Al-Ĥusná Wa ۖ Allāhu Yash/hadu 'Innahum Lakādhibūna | 009-107* Those who adopt a mosque for [working] mischief and disbelief, as well as disunion among believers and as an outpost for anyone who has already warred on God and His messenger, will swear: "We only wanted to be kind!" God witnesses what sort of liars they are, | وَالَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مَسْجِدا ً ضِرَارا ً وَكُفْرا ً وَتَفْرِيقا ً بَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِرْصَادا ً لِمَنْ حَارَبَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۚ وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ إِنْ أَرَدْنَا إِلاَّ الْحُسْنَى ۖ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ |
| Lā Taqum Fīhi 'Abadāan ۚ Lamasjidun 'Ussisa `Alá At-Taqwá Min 'Awwali Yawmin 'Aĥaqqu 'An Taqūma Fīhi ۚ Fīhi Rijālun Yuĥibbūna 'An Yataţahharū Wa ۚ Allāhu Yuĥibbu Al-Muţţahhirīna | 009-108* Never stand in it! It is more fitting for you to stand in a mosque which has been founded on performing one's duty from the very first day in which there are men who love to be purified, God loves those who cleanse themselves. Always Build Firmly | لاَ تَقُمْ فِيهِ أَبَدا ً ۚ لَمَسْجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَى مِنْ أَوَّلِ يَوْمٍ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَقُومَ فِيه ِِ ۚ فِيه ِِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ |
| 'Afaman 'Assasa Bunyānahu `Alá Taqwá Mina Al-Lahi Wa Riđwānin Khayrun 'Am Man 'Assasa Bunyānahu `Alá Shafā Jurufin Hārin Fānhāra Bihi Fī Nāri Jahannama Wa ۗ Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Až-Žālimīna | 009-109* Is someone who founds his building on heeding and pleasing God better, or someone who founds his building along the edge of a crumbling bluff, so it crumbles along with him into Hell fire? God does not guide such wrongful folk: | أَفَمَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَه ُ عَلَى تَقْوَى مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانٍ خَيْرٌ أَمْ مَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَانَه ُ عَلَى شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍ فَانْهَارَ بِه ِِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ |
| Lā Yazālu Bunyānuhumu Al-Ladhī Banaw Rībatan Fī Qulūbihim 'Illā 'An Taqaţţa`a Qulūbuhum Wa ۗ Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun | 009-110* the building which they have built is continually in doubt within their hearts, till their hearts are torn pieces. God is Aware, Wise! The Believers' Reward (XIV) | لاَ يَزَالُ بُنْيَانُهُمُ الَّذِي بَنَوْا رِيبَة ً فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| 'Inna Al-Laha Ashtará Mina Al-Mu'uminīna 'Anfusahum Wa 'Amwālahum Bi'anna Lahumu Al-Jannata ۚ Yuqātilūna Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Fayaqtulūna Wa Yuqtalūna ۖ Wa`dāan `Alayhi Ĥaqqāan Fī At-Tawrāati Wa Al-'Injīli Wa Al-Qur'āni ۚ Wa Man 'Awfá Bi`ahdihi Mina Al-Lahi ۚ Fāstabshirū Bibay`ikumu Al-Ladhī Bāya`tum Bihi ۚ Wa Dhalika Huwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu | 009-111* God has bought up their persons and their property from believers, so they may have the Garden [instead). They fight for God's sake; they kill and are killed as a rightful promise from Him [to be found] in the Old Testament, the Gospel and the Quran. Who is more Trustworthy with His word than God? So rejoice in your bargain which you have reached with Him. That will be the supreme Achievement | إِنَّ اللَّهَ اشْتَرَى مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ الْجَنَّةَ ۚ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَيَقْتُلُونَ وَيُقْتَلُونَ ۖ وَعْدا ً عَلَيْهِ حَقّا ً فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنجِيلِ وَالْقُرْآنِ ۚ وَمَنْ أَوْفَى بِعَهْدِه ِِ مِنَ اللَّهِ ۚ فَاسْتَبْشِرُوا بِبَيْعِكُمُ الَّذِي بَايَعْتُمْ بِه ِِ ۚ وَذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ |
| At-Tā'ibūna Al-`Ābidūna Al-Ĥāmidūna As-Sā'iĥūna Ar-Rāki`ūna As-Sājidūna Al-'Āmirūna Bil-Ma`rūfi Wa An-Nāhūna `Ani Al-Munkari Wa Al-Ĥāfižūna Liĥudūdi Al-Lahi ۗ Wa Bashshiri Al-Mu'uminīna | 009-112* [for] those who repent, worship, praise [God], observe fasting, bow their heads and knees [in prayer], those who command decency, forbid wickedness, and keep within God's limits; spread such news to believers. | التَّائِبُونَ الْعَابِدُونَ الْحَامِدُونَ السَّائِحُونَ الرَّاكِعُونَ السَّاجِدُونَ الآمِرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّاهُونَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَالْحَافِظُونَ لِحُدُودِ اللَّهِ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ |
| Mā Kāna Lilnnabīyi Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'An Yastaghfirū Lilmushrikīna Wa Law Kānū 'Ūlī Qurbá Min Ba`di Mā Tabayyana Lahum 'Annahum 'Aşĥābu Al-Jaĥīmi | 009-113* It is not proper for the Prophet and those who believe to seek forgiveness for associators, even though they are close relatives, once it has been explained to them how they will become the inmates of Hades. | مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوا أُوْلِي قُرْبَى مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْجَحِيمِ |
| Wa Mā Kāna Astighfāru 'Ibrāhīma Li'abīhi 'Illā `An Maw`idatin Wa`adahā 'Īyāhu Falammā Tabayyana Lahu 'Annahu `Adūwun Lillahi Tabarra'a Minhu ۚ 'Inna 'Ibrāhīma La'awwāhun Ĥalīmun | 009-114* Abraham pleaded for forgiveness on behalf of his father only because of a promise he had made to him. When it became clear to him that he was God's enemy, he declared his innocence of him. Abraham was concerned, lenient. | وَمَا كَانَ اسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلاَّ عَنْ مَوْعِدَةٍ وَعَدَهَا إِيَّاه ُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ~ُ أَنَّه ُ عَدُوٌّ لِلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ ۚ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَأَوَّاه ٌٌ حَلِيمٌ |
| Wa Mā Kāna Al-Lahu Liyuđilla Qawmāan Ba`da 'Idh Hadāhum Ĥattá Yubayyina Lahum Mā Yattaqūna ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Bikulli Shay'in `Alīmun | 009-115* God is not apt to let any folk go astray once He has guided them to the point where He explains to them how they should do their duty. God is Aware of everything. | وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِلَّ قَوْما ً بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَاهُمْ حَتَّى يُبَيِّنَ لَهُمْ مَا يَتَّقُونَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ |
| 'Inna Al-Laha Lahu Mulku As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi ۖ Yuĥyī Wa Yumītu ۚ Wa Mā Lakum Min Dūni Al-Lahi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Naşīrin | 009-116* God holds control over Heaven and Earth. He both grants life and brings death, while you (all) have no patron nor any supporter besides Him, | إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَه ُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ۖ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ ۚ وَمَا لَكُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ نَصِيرٍ |
| Laqad Tāba Al-Lahu `Alá An-Nabīyi Wa Al-Muhājirīna Wa Al-'Anşāri Al-Ladhīna Attaba`ūhu Fī Sā`ati Al-`Usrati Min Ba`di Mā Kāda Yazīghu Qulūbu Farīqin Minhum Thumma Tāba `Alayhim ۚ 'Innahu Bihim Ra'ūfun Raĥīmun | 009-117* God has relented towards the Prophet, and the Refugees an porters who followed him in the hour of hardship, after the heart group of them had almost faltered; then He turned towards them, for He is Compassionate, Merciful, with them. | لَقَدْ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَالْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالأَنصَارِ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوه ُ فِي سَاعَةِ الْعُسْرَةِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا كَادَ يَزِيغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِيقٍ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّه ُ بِهِمْ رَءُوف ٌ رَحِيمٌ |
| Wa `Alá Ath-Thalāthati Al-Ladhīna Khullifū Ĥattá 'Idhā Đāqat `Alayhimu Al-'Arđu Bimā Raĥubat Wa Đāqat `Alayhim 'Anfusuhum Wa Žannū 'An Lā Malja'a Mina Al-Lahi 'Illā 'Ilayhi Thumma Tāba `Alayhim Liyatūbū ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Huwa At-Tawwābu Ar-Raĥīmu | 009-118* As for the three who we behind, until the earth seemed too cramped for them, spacious thou and even their souls seemed to strangle them and they thought there be no refuge from God except through Himself-, then He relented towards them so they might repent. God is Ever-Turning, Merciful. (XV) | وَعَلَى الثَّلاَثَةِ الَّذِينَ خُلِّفُوا حَتَّى إِذَا ضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَظَنُّوا أَنْ لاَ مَلْجَأَ مِنَ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَتُوبُوا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Attaqū Al-Laha Wa Kūnū Ma`a Aş-Şādiqīna | 009-119* You who believe, heed God and stand by those who are truthful. | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ |
| Mā Kāna Li'hli Al-Madīnati Wa Man Ĥawlahum Mina Al-'A`rābi 'An Yatakhallafū `An Rasūli Al-Lahi Wa Lā Yarghabū Bi'anfusihim `An Nafsihi ۚ Dhālika Bi'annahum Lā Yuşībuhum Žama'un Wa Lā Naşabun Wa Lā Makhmaşatun Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi Wa Lā Yaţa'ūna Mawţi'āan Yaghīžu Al-Kuffāra Wa Lā Yanālūna Min `Adūwin Naylāan 'Illā Kutiba Lahum Bihi `Amalun Şāliĥun ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Lā Yuđī`u 'Ajra Al-Muĥsinīna | 009-120* It is not for the people of Madina nor any desert Arabs who (live) around them, to lag behind God's messenger nor to prefer themselves ahead of himself. That is so no thirst would afflict them, nor any stress nor starvation along God's way, nor would they adopt any stand which irritate disbelievers, nor gain any acquisition from an enemy, unless some honorable action were recorded for them because of it. God does not waste the wages of those who act kindly, | مَا كَانَ لِأهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْرَابِ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ يَرْغَبُوا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ عَنْ نَفْسِه ِِ ۚ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ لاَ يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌ وَلاَ نَصَبٌ وَلاَ مَخْمَصَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ يَطَئُونَ مَوْطِئا ً يَغِيظُ الْكُفَّارَ وَلاَ يَنَالُونَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ نَيْلا ً إِلاَّ كُتِبَ لَهُمْ بِه ِِ عَمَلٌ صَالِحٌ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ |
| Wa Lā Yunfiqūna Nafaqatan Şaghīratan Wa Lā Kabīratan Wa Lā Yaqţa`ūna Wa Adīāan 'Illā Kutiba Lahum Liyajziyahumu Al-Lahu 'Aĥsana Mā Kānū Ya`malūna | 009-121* They could not provide for any outlay small or great, nor cut across a valley unless it were prescribed for them, so that God may reward them for the finest things they have been doing. | وَلاَ يُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَة ً صَغِيرَة ً وَلاَ كَبِيرَة ً وَلاَ يَقْطَعُونَ وَادِيا ً إِلاَّ كُتِبَ لَهُمْ لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
| Wa Mā Kāna Al-Mu'uminūna Liyanfirū Kāffatan ۚ Falawlā Nafara Min Kulli Firqatin Minhum Ţā'ifatun Liyatafaqqahū Fī Ad-Dīni Wa Liyundhirū Qawmahum 'Idhā Raja`ū 'Ilayhim La`allahum Yaĥdharūna | 009-122* Believers should not march forth in a body; if a squadron from each division of them should march forth, they should still instruct [others] in religion and warn their folk when they return to them so that they may take precautions. (XVI) | وَمَا كَانَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لِيَنفِرُوا كَافَّة ً ۚ فَلَوْلاَ نَفَرَ مِنْ كُلِّ فِرْقَةٍ مِنْهُمْ طَائِفَة ٌ لِيَتَفَقَّهُوا فِي الدِّينِ وَلِيُنذِرُوا قَوْمَهُمْ إِذَا رَجَعُوا إِلَيْهِمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَحْذَرُونَ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Qātilū Al-Ladhīna Yalūnakum Mina Al-Kuffāri Wa Līajidū Fīkum Ghilžatan ۚ Wa A`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Ma`a Al-Muttaqīna | 009-123* You who believe, fight any disbelievers who hem you in so they may find out how tough you are. Know that God stands by the heedful. | يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قَاتِلُوا الَّذِينَ يَلُونَكُمْ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ وَلْيَجِدُوا فِيكُمْ غِلْظَة ً ۚ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِينَ |
| Wa 'Idhā Mā 'Unzilat Sūratun Faminhum Man Yaqūlu 'Ayyukum Zādat/hu Hadhihi 'Īmānāan ۚ Fa'ammā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Fazādat/hum 'Īmānāan Wa Hum Yastabshirūna | 009-124* Whenever a chapter is sent down, some of them say: "Which of you has this increased in faith?" Well, it increases those who believe in faith and so they rejoice. | وَإِذَا مَا أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ أَيُّكُمْ زَادَتْهُ هَذِهِ إِيمَانا ً ۚ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا فَزَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانا ً وَهُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ |
| Wa 'Ammā Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Fazādat/hum Rijsāan 'Ilá Rijsihim Wa Mātū Wa Hum Kāfirūna | 009-125* As for those whose hearts contain malice, well it adds squalor to their own squalor. They will die while they are (still) disbelievers. | وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَض ٌ فَزَادَتْهُمْ رِجْسا ً إِلَى رِجْسِهِمْ وَمَاتُوا وَهُمْ كَافِرُونَ |
| 'Awalā Yarawna 'Annahum Yuftanūna Fī Kulli `Āmin Marratan 'Aw Marratayni Thumma Lā Yatūbūna Wa Lā Hum Yadhdhakkarūna | 009-126* Do they not see how they are being tested once or twice each year? Yet they neither repent nor do they remember. | أَوَلاَ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُمْ يُفْتَنُونَ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لاَ يَتُوبُونَ وَلاَ هُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ |
| Wa 'Idhā Mā 'Unzilat Sūratun Nažara Ba`đuhum 'Ilá Ba`đin Hal Yarākum Min 'Aĥadin Thumma Anşarafū ۚ Şarafa Al-Lahu Qulūbahum Bi'annahum Qawmun Lā Yafqahūna | 009-127* Whenever a chapter is sent down, some of them look at one another [as if to say]: "Is anyone watching you?" Then they slip away. God has slipped their hearts away since they are a folk who do not comprehend. | وَإِذَا مَا أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ نَظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ هَلْ يَرَاكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ ثُمَّ انصَرَفُوا ۚ صَرَفَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْم ٌ لاَ يَفْقَهُونَ |
| Laqad Jā'akum Rasūlun Min 'Anfusikum `Azīzun `Alayhi Mā `Anittum Ĥarīşun `Alaykum Bil-Mu'uminīna Ra'ūfun Raĥīmun | 009-128* A Messenger has come to you from among yourselves; he takes seriously how you have come to grief, is anxious about you, compassionate, merciful towards believers. | لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوف ٌ رَحِيم ٌ |
| Fa'in Tawallaw Faqul Ĥasbī Al-Lahu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa ۖ `Alayhi Tawakkaltu ۖ Wa Huwa Rabbu Al-`Arshi Al-`Ažīmi | 009-129* If they should turn away, then SAY: "God is enough for me! There is no deity except Him; on Him do I rely. He is the Lord of the mighty Throne!" | فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُلْ حَسْبِي اللَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ |
