'Idhā Waqa`ati Al-Wāqi`ahu  | When the inevitable event will come to pass[56.1] | إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ |
Laysa Liwaq`atihā Kādhibahun  | - no one will be able to deny its coming to pass[56.2] | لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ |
Khāfiđatun Rāfi`ahun  | - then some shall be abased and some exalted.[56.3] | خَافِضَة ٌ رَافِعَةٌ |
'Idhā Rujjati Al-'Arđu Rajjāan  | The earth shall be shaken with severe shaking[56.4] | إِذَا رُجَّتِ الأَرْضُ رَجّاً |
Wa Bussati Al-Jibālu Bassāan  | and the mountains shall be made to crumble with awful crumbling[56.5] | وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسّاً |
Fakānat Habā'an Munbaththāan  | and become like scattered dust.[56.6] | فَكَانَتْ هَبَا مُنْبَثّاً |
Wa Kuntum 'Azwājāan Thalāthahan  | Then you shall be divided into three groups:[56.7] | وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجاً ثَلاَثَةً |
Fa'aşĥābu Al-Maymanati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi  | those on the right hand - how blessed shall be the people of the right hand;[56.8] | فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi  | those on the left hand - how damned shall be the people of the left hand;[56.9] | وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ |
Wa As-Sābiqūna As-Sābiqūna  | and foremost shall be the foremost.[56.10] | وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ |
'Ūlā'ika Al-Muqarrabūna  | They will be nearest to Allah,[56.11] | أُوْلَائِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ |
Fī Jannāti An-Na`īmi  | in the gardens of bliss.[56.12] | فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ |
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna  | Most of them will be from the former[56.13] | ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Wa Qalīlun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna  | and a few from the later generations.[56.14] | وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ |
`Alá Sururin Mawđūnahin  | They shall have the jewelled couches,[56.15] | عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ |
Muttaki'īna `Alayhā Mutaqābilīna  | reclining on them facing each other,[56.16] | مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ |
Yaţūfu `Alayhim Wildānun Mukhalladūna  | and there shall wait on them the eternal youths[56.17] | يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ |
Bi'akwābin Wa 'Abārīqa Wa Ka'sin Min Ma`īnin  | with goblets, shining beakers and cups of pure wine,[56.18] | بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ |
Lā Yuşadda`ūna `Anhā Wa Lā Yunzifūna  | - which will neither pain their heads nor take away their senses.[56.19] | لاَ يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلاَ يُنزِفُونَ |
Wa Fākihatin Mimmā Yatakhayyarūna  | They shall have fruits of their own choice[56.20] | وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ |
Wa Laĥmi Ţayrin Mimmā Yashtahūna  | and flesh of fowls that they may desire,[56.21] | وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ |
Wa Ĥūrun `Īnun  | and dark eyed Hüris (damsels),[56.22] | وَحُورٌ عِينٌ |
Ka'amthāli Al-Lu'ulu'ui Al-Maknūni  | as lovely as well guarded pearls[56.23] | كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ |
Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna  | as a reward for their good deeds that they had done.[56.24] | جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
Lā Yasma`ūna Fīhā Laghwan Wa Lā Ta'thīmāan  | There they shall not hear any vain talk nor sinful words,[56.25] | لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْواً وَلاَ تَأْثِيماً |
'Illā Qīlāan Salāmāan Salāmāan  | but only the greetings of “Peace be upon you! Peace be upon you!”[56.26] | إِلاَّ قِيلاً سَلاَماً سَلاَماً |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni  | Those of the right hand - happy shall be those on the right hand![56.27] | وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ |
Fī Sidrin Makhđūdin  | They shall be among the thornless lote trees,[56.28] | فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْضُودٍ |
Wa Ţalĥin Manđūdin  | clusters of bananas,[56.29] | وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ |
Wa Žillin Mamdūdin  | extended thick shades,[56.30] | وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ |
Wa Mā'in Maskūbin  | constantly flowing water,[56.31] | وَمَاءٍ مَسْكُوبٍ |
Wa Fākihatin Kathīrahin  | abundant fruits[56.32] | وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ |
Lā Maqţū`atin Wa Lā Mamnū`ahin  | of unforbidden never ending supply,[56.33] | لاَ مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلاَ مَمْنُوعَةٍ |
Wa Furushin Marfū`ahin  | and will be reclining on high raised couches.[56.34] | وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَةٍ |
'Innā 'Ansha'nāhunna 'Inshā'an  | We shall create their wives of special creation[56.35] | إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاءً |
Faja`alnāhunna 'Abkārāan  | and make them virgins[56.36] | فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَاراً |
`Urubāan 'Atrābāan  | beloved by nature, equal in age,[56.37] | عُرُباً أَتْرَاباً |
Li'aşĥābi Al-Yamīni  | for those of the right hand.[56.38] | لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna  | Many of them will be from the former[56.39] | ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Wa Thullatun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna  | and many from the later generations.[56.40] | وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli Mā 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli  | As for those of the left hand - how unfortunate will be the people of the left hand![56.41] | وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ |
Fī Samūmin Wa Ĥamīmin  | They will be in the midst of scorching winds and in boiling water:[56.42] | فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ |
Wa Žillin Min Yaĥmūmin  | in the shade of a pitch-black smoke,[56.43] | وَظِلٍّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ |
Lā Bāridin Wa Lā Karīmin  | neither cool nor refreshing.[56.44] | لاَ بَارِدٍ وَلاَ كَرِيمٍ |
'Innahum Kānū Qabla Dhālika Mutrafīna  | For they lived in comfort before meeting this fate.[56.45] | إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ |
Wa Kānū Yuşirrūna `Alá Al-Ĥinthi Al-`Ažīmi  | They persisted in heinous sins[56.46] | وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ |
Wa Kānū Yaqūlūna 'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamab`ūthūna  | and used to say: “When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised to life again?[56.47] | وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباً وَعِظَاماً أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ |
'Awa 'Ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūna  | And our forefathers, too?”[56.48] | أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الأَوَّلُونَ |
Qul 'Inna Al-'Awwalīna Wa Al-'Ākhirīna  | Tell them: “Surely those of old and those of present age[56.49] | قُلْ إِنَّ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ |
Lamajmū`ūna 'Ilá Mīqāti Yawmin Ma`lūmin  | shall certainly be brought together on an appointed time of a known Day.[56.50] | لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ |
Thumma 'Innakum 'Ayyuhā Ađ-Đāllūna Al-Mukadhdhibūna  | Then, “O the mistaken rejecters,[56.51] | ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ |
La'ākilūna Min Shajarin Min Zaqqūmin  | you shall eat of the Zaqqum tree,[56.52] | لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِنْ زَقُّومٍ |
Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūna  | and fill your bellies with it;[56.53] | فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ |
Fashāribūna `Alayhi Mina Al-Ĥamīmi  | and drink on top of it scalding water;[56.54] | فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ |
Fashāribūna Shurba Al-Hīmi  | yet you shall drink it like a thirsty camel."[56.55] | فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ |
Hādhā Nuzuluhum Yawma Ad-Dīni  | Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Reckoning.[56.56] | هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ |
Naĥnu Khalaqnākum Falawlā Tuşaddiqūna  | We have created you: will you not then testify about Our power of creation?[56.57] | نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلاَ تُصَدِّقُونَ |
'Afara'aytum Mā Tumnūna  | Have you ever considered the semen you discharge:[56.58] | أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ |
'A'antum Takhluqūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Al-Khāliqūna  | Is it you who create the child from it, or are We the Creator?[56.59] | أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ~ُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ |
Naĥnu Qaddarnā Baynakumu Al-Mawta Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna  | It is We Who have ordained death among you and We are not helpless[56.60] | نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ |
`Alá 'An Nubaddila 'Amthālakum Wa Nunshi'akum Fī Mā Lā Ta`lamūna  | in replacing you by others like yourselves or transforming you into beings that you do not know.[56.61] | عَلَى أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ |
Wa Laqad `Alimtumu An-Nash'ata Al-'Ūlá Falawlā Tadhkkarūna  | You already know well your first creation, why then do you not take heed?[56.62] | وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الأُولَى فَلَوْلاَ تَذكَّرُونَ |
'Afara'aytum Mā Taĥruthūna  | Have you ever considered the seed that you sow in the ground?[56.63] | أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ |
'A'antum Tazra`ūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Az-Zāri`ūna  | Is it you who cause it to grow or are We the grower?[56.64] | أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ~ُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ |
Law Nashā'u Laja`alnāhu Ĥuţāmāan Fažalaltum Tafakkahūna  | If it be Our Will, We could crumble your harvest into chaff, and you would then be left lamenting:[56.65] | لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُُحُطَاماً فَظَلَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ |
'Innā Lamughramūna  | “We are indeed left laden with debts,[56.66] | إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ |
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna  | indeed we have been deprived from the fruits of our labor!”[56.67] | بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ |
'Afara'aytumu Al-Mā'a Al-Ladhī Tashrabūna  | Have you ever considered the water which you drink?[56.68] | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ |
'A'antum 'Anzaltumūhu Mina Al-Muzni 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munzilūna  | Is it you who send it down from the clouds or are We the sender?[56.69] | أَأَنْتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُُمِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ |
Law Nashā'u Ja`alnāhu 'Ujājāan Falawlā Tashkurūna  | If it be Our Will, We could turn it salty. Why then do you not give thanks?[56.70] | لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ~ُ أُجَاجاً فَلَوْلاَ تَشْكُرُونَ |
'Afara'aytumu An-Nāra Allatī Tūrūna  | Have you ever considered the fire that you kindle?[56.71] | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ |
'A'antum 'Ansha'tum Shajaratahā 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munshi'ūna  | Is it you who grow the tree which feeds the fire or are We the grower?[56.72] | أَأَنْتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِئُونَ |
Naĥnu Ja`alnāhā Tadhkiratan Wa Matā`āan Lilmuqwīna  | We have made it a reminder for man as to what would be the life without it, and a provision of life for the travellers of desert.[56.73] | نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعاً لِلْمُقْوِينَ |
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi  | So glorify the name of your Rabb, Who is the Greatest.[56.74] | فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ |
Falā 'Uqsimu Bimawāqi`i An-Nujūmi  | I swear by the setting of the stars,[56.75] | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ |
Wa 'Innahu Laqasamun Law Ta`lamūna `Ažīmun  | and it is indeed a mighty oath if you but knew it,[56.76] | وَإِنَّهُُلَقَسَم ٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ |
'Innahu Laqur'ānun Karīmun  | that this is indeed a Glorious Qur’an,[56.77] | إِنَّهُُلَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ |
Fī Kitābin Maknūnin  | inscribed in a well-guarded Book,[56.78] | فِي كِتَابٍ مَكْنُونٍ |
Lā Yamassuhu 'Illā Al-Muţahharūna  | which none can touch except the purified (angels):[56.79] | لاَ يَمَسُّهُ~ُ إِلاَّ الْمُطَهَّرُونَ |
Tanzīlun Min Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna  | a revelation from the Rabb of the worlds.[56.80] | تَنزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ |
'Afabihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi 'Antum Mud/hinūna  | Would you scorn a scripture such as this[56.81] | أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ |
Wa Taj`alūna Rizqakum 'Annakum Tukadhdhibūna  | and make it’s denying a means of your livelihood?[56.82] | وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ |
Falawlā 'Idhā Balaghati Al-Ĥulqūma  | Why is it not then that when you see a dying person’s soul come up to his throat[56.83] | فَلَوْلاَ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ |
Wa 'Antum Ĥīna'idhin Tanžurūna  | while you are helplessly watching[56.84] | وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ |
Wa Naĥnu 'Aqrabu 'Ilayhi Minkum Wa Lakin Lā Tubşirūna  | - and at that time We are nearer to him than you, although you cannot see Us.[56.85] | وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلَكِنْ لاَ تُبْصِرُونَ |
Falawlā 'In Kuntum Ghayra Madīnīna  | Then why do you not - if you claim you are not subject to reckoning[56.86] | فَلَوْلاَ إِنْ كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ |
Tarji`ūnahā 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna  | - restore to the dying person his soul? Answer this, if what you say be true![56.87] | تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |
Fa'ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Muqarrabīna  | Then if the dying person is one of those near to Us,[56.88] | فَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ |
Farawĥun Wa Rayĥānun Wa Jannatu Na`īmin  | for him there is comfort and bounty, and a garden of bliss.[56.89] | فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ |
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni  | And if he be one of the right hand,[56.90] | وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Fasalāmun Laka Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni  | he is greeted with salutation: “Peace be upon you,” from those of the right hand.[56.91] | فَسَلاَم ٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Mukadhdhibīna Ađ-Đāllīna  | And if he is one of the mistaken rejecters,[56.92] | وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ |
Fanuzulun Min Ĥamīmin  | he is welcomed with scalding water,[56.93] | فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ |
Wa Taşliyatu Jaĥīmin  | and burning in hellfire.[56.94] | وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ |
'Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Ĥaqqu Al-Yaqīni  | Surely this is an absolute truth.[56.95] | إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ |
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi  | Therefore, glorify the name of your Rabb, Who is the Greatest.[56.96] | فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ |
