Wa A n -Naj mi 'Idh ā Hawá By the star when it sets,[53.1] وَالنَّ جْ مِ إِذَا هَوَى
Mā Đalla Şāĥibukum Wa Mā Gh awá your companion (Muhammad) is neither astray, nor misguided,[53.2] مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَى
Wa Mā Yan ţiqu `Ani A l-Hawá nor does he speak out of his own desire.[53.3] وَمَا يَنْ طِقُ عَنِ ا لْهَوَى
'In Huwa 'Illā Waĥyun Yūĥá This Qur’an is but an inspired revelation.[53.4] إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ وَحْيٌ يُوحَى
`Allamahu Sh adī du A l-Quwá He is being taught by one who is mighty powerful (angel Gabriel);[53.5] عَلَّمَهُُشَدِي دُ ا لْقُوَى
Dh ū Mir ratin Fāstawá the one free from defects who became stable in the view.[53.6] ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَا سْتَوَى
Wa Huwa Bil-'Ufuqi A l-'A`lá He stood poised at the uppermost horizon,[53.7] وَهُوَ بِا لأُفُقِ ا لأَعْلَى
Th umm a Danā Fatadallá then he drew near, coming closer[53.8] ثُمّ َ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى
Fakā na Qā ba Qawsayni 'Aw 'Ad n á within the length of two bows or even closer,[53.9] فَكَا نَ قَا بَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَد ْنَى
Fa'awĥá 'Ilá `Ab dihi Mā 'Awĥá and revealed to Allah's servant (Muhammad) that what he was supposed to reveal.[53.10] فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْ دِهِِ مَا أَوْحَى
Mā Kadh aba A l-Fu'uā du Mā Ra'á His (Muhammad’s) own heart did not deny that which he saw.[53.11] مَا كَذَبَ ا لْفُؤَا دُ مَا رَأَى
'Afatumārūnahu `Alá Mā Yará How can you, O unbelievers then, question what he saw?[53.12] أَفَتُمَارُونَهُُعَلَى مَا يَرَى
Wa Laqad Ra'ā hu Nazlatan 'Ukh rá And he (Muhammad) saw him once again[53.13] وَلَقَد ْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى
`In da Sid rati A l-Mun tahá near Sidra-tul-Muntaha (the Lote-tree at the farthest end of the seven heavens, beyond which none can pass).[53.14] عِنْ دَ سِد ْرَةِ ا لْمُنْ تَهَى
`In dahā Jann atu A l-Ma'wá Near it is Janna-tul-M’awa (the rest-house of paradise).[53.15] عِنْ دَهَا جَنَّ ةُ ا لْمَأْوَى
'Idh Yagh sh á A s-Sid rata Mā Yagh sh á When that Lote-tree was covered with what covered it,[53.16] إِذْ يَغْشَى ا ل سِّد ْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَى
Mā Zāgh a A l-Başaru Wa Mā Ţagh á his eyes did not turn aside nor did they exceed the limit:[53.17] مَا زَا غَ ا لْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَى
Laqad Ra'á Min 'Ā yā ti Rabbihi A l-Kub rá and he did indeed see some of his Rabb’s greatest signs.[53.18] لَقَد ْ رَأَى مِن ْ آيَا تِ رَبِّهِ ا لْكُبْ رَى
'Afara'aytumu A l-Lā ta Wa A l-`Uzzá Have you ever seen Lمt and Uzza[53.19] أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ ا ل لاَّتَ وَالْعُزَّى
Wa Manāata A th -Th ālith ata A l-'Ukh rá and another, the third Manمt (names of Arabian idols, claimed by the pagans of Makkah to be the daughters of Allah)?[53.20] وَمَنَا ةَ ا ل ثَّالِثَةَ ا لأُخْرَى
'Alakumu A dh -Dh akaru Wa Lahu A l-'Un th á Are you to have sons, and He the daughters?[53.21] أَلَكُمُ ا ل ذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ا لأُن ثَى
Tilka 'Idh āan Qismatun Đīzá This indeed is an unfair division![53.22] تِلْكَ إِذاً قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَى
'In Hiya 'Illā 'Asmā 'un Samm aytumūhā 'An tum Wa 'Ā bā 'uukum Mā 'An zala A l-Lahu Bihā Min Sulţā nin 'In Yattabi`ū na 'Illā A ž-Žann a Wa Mā Tahwá A l-'An fusu Wa Laqad Jā 'ahum Min Rabbihimu A l-Hudá These (Lمt, Uzza and Manمt) are nothing but names which you and your forefathers have invented, for Allah has vested no authority in them. The unbelievers follow nothing but mere conjecture and the whims of their own souls, even though right guidance has already come to them from their Rabb.[53.23] إِنْ هِيَ إِلاَّ أَسْمَا ءٌ سَمَّ يْتُمُوهَا أَنْ تُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُم ْ مَا أَن زَلَ ا ل لَّهُ بِهَا مِن ْ سُلْطَا نٍ إِن ْ يَتَّبِعُو نَ إِلاَّ ا ل ظَّنّ َ وَمَا تَهْوَى ا لأَنْ فُسُ وَلَقَد ْ جَاءَهُم ْ مِن ْ رَبِّهِمُ ا لْهُدَى
'Am Lil'in sā ni Mā Tamann á Or should man have whatever he wishes?[53.24] أَمْ لِلإِن سَا نِ مَا تَمَنَّ ى
Falill ā hi A l-'Ā kh iratu Wa A l-'Ū lá Nay! To Allah belongs the hereafter and this present life.[53.25] فَلِلَّهِ ا لآخِرَةُ وَالأُ ولَى
Wa Kam Min Malakin Fī A s-Samāwā ti Lā Tugh nī Sh afā`atuhum Sh ay'ā an 'Illā Min Ba`di 'An Ya'dh ana A l-Lahu Liman Yash ā 'u Wa Yarđá How many are the angels in the heavens; yet their intercession can avail none unless Allah gives them permission in favor of whom He wants and is pleased with.[53.26] وَكَم ْ مِن ْ مَلَكٍ فِي ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ لاَ تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئاً إِلاَّ مِن ْ بَعْدِ أَن ْ يَأْذَنَ ا ل لَّهُ لِمَن ْ يَشَا ءُ وَيَرْضَى
'Inn a A l-Ladh ī na Lā Yu'uminū na Bil-'Ā kh irati Layusamm ū na A l-Malā 'ikata Tasmiyata A l-'Un th á Those who do not believe in the hereafter give the angels the female names of goddesses.[53.27] إِنّ َ ا لَّذِي نَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُو نَ بِا لآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمّ ُو نَ ا لْمَلاَئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ا لأُنْ ثَى
Wa Mā Lahum Bihi Min `Ilmin 'In Yattabi`ū na 'Illā A ž-Žann a Wa 'Inn a A ž-Žann a Lā Yugh nī Mina A l-Ĥaqqi Sh ay'ā an But they have no knowledge of it. They follow mere conjecture; and surely conjecture does not avail against the truth at all.[53.28] وَمَا لَهُم ْ بِهِِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن ْ يَتَّبِعُو نَ إِلاَّ ا ل ظَّنّ َ وَإِنّ َ ا ل ظَّنّ َ لاَ يُغْنِي مِنَ ا لْحَقِّ شَيْئاً
Fa'a`r iđ `An Man Tawallá `An Dh ikr inā Wa Lam Yur id 'Illā A l-Ĥayāata A d-Dun yā Therefore, neglect those who ignore Our warnings and seek only the life of this world.[53.29] فَأَعْر ِضْ عَن ْ مَن ْ تَوَلَّى عَن ْ ذِكْر ِنَا وَلَمْ يُر ِد ْ إِلاَّ ا لْحَيَا ةَ ا ل دُّنْ يَا
Dh ālika Mab lagh uhum Mina A l-`Ilmi 'Inn a Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani A htadá This is the sum of their knowledge. Surely your Rabb knows who have strayed from His path, and who are rightly guided.[53.30] ذَلِكَ مَبْ لَغُهُم ْ مِنَ ا لْعِلْمِ إِنّ َ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ْ ضَلَّ عَن ْ سَبِيلِهِِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ا هْتَدَى
Wa Lillahi Mā Fī A s-Samāwā ti Wa Mā Fī A l-'Arđi Liyaj ziya A l-Ladh ī na 'Asā 'ū Bimā `Amilū Wa Yaj ziya A l-Ladh ī na 'Aĥsanū Bil-Ĥusn á To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth, so that He may requite the evildoers according to their deeds, and richly reward those who do good deeds.[53.31] وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَمَا فِي ا لأَرْضِ لِيَجْ زِيَ ا لَّذِي نَ أَسَاءُ وا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْ زِيَ ا لَّذِي نَ أَحْسَنُوا بِا لْحُسْنَى
Al-Ladh ī na Yaj tanibū na Kabā 'ir a A l-'Ith mi Wa A l-Fawāĥish a 'Illā A l-Lamama 'Inn a Rabbaka Wāsi`u A l-Magh firati Huwa 'A`lamu Bikum 'Idh 'An sh a'akum Mina A l-'Arđi Wa 'Idh 'An tum 'Ajinn atun Fī Buţū ni 'Umm ahātikum Falā Tuzakkū 'An fusakum Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani A ttaqá To those who avoid the major sins and shameful deeds and are guilty of only small offense, surely for them your Rabb will have abundant forgiveness. He knew you well when He created you from earth and when you were just embryos in your mother’s wombs, therefore, do not claim piety for yourselves. He knows best who is really Godfearing pious.[53.32] ا لَّذِي نَ يَجْ تَنِبُو نَ كَبَائِر َ ا لإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلاَّ ا ل لَّمَمَ إِنّ َ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ ا لْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَن شَأَكُم ْ مِنَ ا لأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْ تُمْ أَجِنَّ ةٌ فِي بُطُو نِ أُمَّ هَاتِكُمْ فَلاَ تُزَكُّو ا أَن فُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ا تَّقَى
'Afara'ayta A l-Ladh ī Tawallá Have you seen the one who (Walïd bin Mughïrah, who was willing to embrace Islam, but upon someone’s promise to take the responsibility of getting the punishment on his behalf in lieu of certain amount of money, he) turned away.[53.33] أَفَرَأَيْتَ ا لَّذِي تَوَلَّى
Wa 'A`ţá Qalīlāan Wa 'Akdá He gave a little from the promised amount then stopped.[53.34] وَأَعْطَى قَلِيلاً وَأَكْدَى
'A`in dahu `Ilmu A l-Gh aybi Fahuwa Yará Does he possess the knowledge of the unseen that he could see reality?[53.35] أَعِنْ دَهُُعِلْمُ ا لْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَى
'Am Lam Yunabba' Bimā Fī Şuĥufi Mūsá Or has he not been notified about what was in the scrolls of Musa (Moses)[53.36] أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَى
Wa 'Ib rāhī ma A l-Ladh ī Wa Ffá and of Ibrمhïm (Abraham) who always kept his word:[53.37] وَإِبْ رَاهِي مَ ا لَّذِي وَفَّى
'Allā Tazir u Wāziratun Wizra 'Ukh rá “That no soul shall bear the burden of another,[53.38] أَلاَّ تَزِر ُوَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى
Wa 'An Laysa Lil'in sā ni 'Illā Mā Sa`á that there shall be nothing for a man except what he strives for,[53.39] وَأَن ْ لَيْسَ لِلإِن سَا نِ إِلاَّ مَا سَعَى
Wa 'Ann a Sa`yahu Sawfa Yurá that his striving shall be scrutinized,[53.40] وَأَنّ َ سَعْيَهُُسَوْفَ يُرَى
Th umm a Yuj zā hu A l-Jazā 'a A l-'Awfá that he shall be fully rewarded for it,[53.41] ثُمّ َ يُجْ زَا هُ ا لْجَزَا ءَ ا لأَوْفَى
Wa 'Ann a 'Ilá Rabbika A l-Mun tahá that to your Rabb is the final goal,[53.42] وَأَنّ َ إِلَى رَبِّكَ ا لْمُنْ تَهَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa 'Ađĥaka Wa 'Ab ká that it is He Who grants laughter and tears,[53.43] وَأَنَّ هُُهُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْ كَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa 'Amā ta Wa 'Aĥyā that it is He Who ordains death and life,[53.44] وَأَنَّ هُُهُوَ أَمَا تَ وَأَحْيَا
Wa 'Ann ahu Kh alaqa A z-Zawjayni A dh -Dh akara Wa A l-'Un th á that it is He Who has created in pairs, the male and the female,[53.45] وَأَنَّ هُُخَلَقَ ا ل زَّوْجَيْنِ ا ل ذَّكَرَ وَالأُنْ ثَى
Min Nuţ fatin 'Idh ā Tum n á from a drop of ejaculated semen,[53.46] مِن ْ نُطْ فَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَى
Wa 'Ann a `Alayhi A n -Nash 'ata A l-'Ukh rá that it rests upon Him to grant the second life (the life of hereafter),[53.47] وَأَنّ َ عَلَيْهِ ا ل نَّ شْأَةَ ا لأُخْرَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa 'Agh n á Wa 'Aq n á that it is He Who gives wealth and property,[53.48] وَأَنَّ هُُهُوَ أَغْنَى وَأَقْ نَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa Rabbu A sh -Sh i`rá that He is even the Rabb of the Sirius (dog star whom the pagans used to worship),[53.49] وَأَنَّ هُُهُوَ رَبُّ ا ل شِّعْرَى
Wa 'Ann ahu 'Ahlaka `Ādāan A l-'Ū lá and that it is He Who destroyed the people of ‘Ad,[53.50] وَأَنَّ هُ~ ُ أَهْلَكَ عَاداً ا لأُ ولَى
Wa Th amū da Famā 'Ab qá then the people of Thamüd, sparing no one,[53.51] وَثَمُو دَ فَمَا أَبْ قَى
Wa Qawma Nūĥin Min Qab lu 'Inn ahum Kānū Hum 'Ažlama Wa 'Aţ gh á and before them the people of Nüh (Noah), who were the most unjust and rebellious.[53.52] وَقَوْمَ نُو حٍ مِن ْ قَبْ لُ إِنَّ هُمْ كَا نُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْ غَى
Wa A l-Mu'utafikata 'Ahwá And also destroyed the Mu’tafikah (Overthrown Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah),[53.53] وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى
Fagh ash sh āhā Mā Gh ash sh á who were smitten by the scourge that smote them."[53.54] فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّى
Fabi'ayyi 'Ā lā 'i Rabbika Tatamārá Then which of your Rabb’s blessings would you doubt?[53.55] فَبِأَيِّ آلاَءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَى
Hādh ā Nadh ī r un Mina A n -Nudh ur i A l-'Ū lá This Warner (Muhammad) is just like the earlier warners.[53.56] هَذَا نَذِي رٌ مِنَ ا ل نُّ ذُر ِ ا لأُ ولَى
'Azifati A l-'Ā zifah u The ever approaching (the Day of Judgment) is drawing near;[53.57] أَزِفَتِ ا لآزِفَةُ
Laysa Lahā Min Dū ni A l-Lahi Kāsh ifah un none but Allah can disclose it.[53.58] لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن ْ دُو نِ ا ل لَّهِ كَا شِفَةٌ
'Afamin Hādh ā A l-Ĥadīth i Ta`jabū na Do you then wonder at this revelation,[53.59] أَفَمِنْ هَذَا ا لْحَدِي ثِ تَعْجَبُو نَ
Wa Tađĥakū na Wa Lā Tab kū na and laugh instead of weeping?[53.60] وَتَضْحَكُو نَ وَلاَ تَبْ كُو نَ
Wa 'An tum Sāmidū na Rather you are wasting your time,[53.61] وَأَنْ تُمْ سَامِدُو نَ
Fāsjudū Lillahi Wa A `budū prostrate yourselves before Allah and worship Him while you can![53.62] فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا
