Şād Wa A l-Qur'ā ni Dh ī A dh -Dh ikr i Sمd.[38.1] صَاد وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي ا ل ذِّكْر ِ
Bali A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Fī `Izzatin Wa Sh iqā q in And by the Qur’an which is full of admonition! Surely the unbelievers are in sheer arrogance and perverseness.[38.2] بَلِ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَا ق ٍ
Kam 'Ahlaknā Min Qab lihim Min Qarnin Fanādaw Walā ta Ĥī na Manāşin How many generations have We destroyed before them? When their doom approached, they all cried out for mercy, but it was no longer the time to be saved.[38.3] كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن ْ قَبْ لِهِم ْ مِن ْ قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوْا وَلاَتَ حِي نَ مَنَا صٍ
Wa `Ajibū 'An Jā 'ahum Mun dh ir un Minhum Wa Qā la A l-Kāfirū na Hādh ā Sāĥir un Kadh dh ā b un They wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves, and the disbelievers say: “He is a sorcerer telling lies![38.4] وَعَجِبُو ا أَن ْ جَاءَهُم ْ مُنْ ذِرٌ مِنْهُمْ وَقَا لَ ا لْكَافِرُو نَ هَذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّا ب ٌ
'Aja`ala A l-'Ā lihata 'Ilahāan Wāĥidāan 'Inn a Hādh ā Lash ay'un `Ujā b un Does he claim that there is only One God in place of all other gods? Surely this is a strange thing.”[38.5] أَجَعَلَ ا لآلِهَةَ إِلَهاً وَاحِداً إِنّ َ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَا ب ٌ
Wa A n ţalaqa A l-Mala'u Minhum 'Ani A m sh ū Wa A şbirū `Alá 'Ā lihatikum 'Inn a Hādh ā Lash ay'un Yurā d u Their leaders go about saying: “Pay no heed, stand firm in the service of your gods; this slogan of One God is designed against you.[38.6] وَان طَلَقَ ا لْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ ا مْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَى آلِهَتِكُمْ إِنّ َ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَا د ُ
Mā Sami`nā Bihadh ā Fī A l-Millati A l-'Ā kh irati 'In Hādh ā 'Illā A kh tilā q un We have not heard such a thing from anyone of the people of latter days (Jews and Christians): it is nothing but a fabrication.[38.7] مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي ا لْمِلَّةِ ا لآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ ا خْتِلاَق ٌ
'A'uun zila `Alayhi A dh -Dh ikru Min Bayninā Bal Hum Fī Sh akkin Min Dh ikr ī Bal Lamm ā Yadh ūqū `Adh ā b i Is he the only fit person among us to whom the admonition is revealed?” But in fact they doubt My admonition, for they have not yet tasted My punishment.[38.8] أَؤُن زِلَ عَلَيْهِ ا ل ذِّكْرُ مِن ْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِن ْ ذِكْر ِي بَل ْ لَمَّ ا يَذُوقُوا عَذَا ب ِ
'Am `In dahum Kh azā 'inu Raĥmati Rabbika A l-`Azī zi A l-Wahhā b i Do they have the treasures of the mercy of your Rabb, the All-Mighty, the Munificent One.[38.9] أَمْ عِنْ دَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ ا لْعَزِي زِ ا لْوَهَّا ب ِ
'Am Lahum Mulku A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā Falyartaqū Fī A l-'Asbā b i Or do they have sovereignty over the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them? If so, let them ascend by any means to be in a position of dictating to Allah according to their wishes.[38.10] أَمْ لَهُم ْ مُلْكُ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي ا لأَسْبَا ب ِ
Jun dun Mā Hunālika Mahzū mun Mina A l-'Aĥzā b i Their faction is no more than an army who will be beaten right here.[38.11] جُن دٌ مَا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُو مٌ مِنَ ا لأَحْزَا ب ِ
Kadh dh abat Qab lahum Qawmu Nūĥin Wa `Ā dun Wa Fir `awnu Dh ū A l-'Awtā d i Before them the people of Nüh, `Ad and Fir'on, the man of stakes, denied their Rasools,[38.12] كَذَّبَتْ قَبْ لَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُو حٍ وَعَا دٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو ا لأَوْتَا د ِ
Wa Th amū du Wa Qawmu Lūţin Wa 'Aşĥā bu A l-'Aykati 'Ū lā 'ika A l-'Aĥzā b u So did Thamüd, the people of Lüt and those of Aiykah (the people of Median) - all divided themselves into factions;[38.13] وَثَمُو دُ وَقَوْمُ لُو طٍ وَأَصْحَا بُ ا لأَيْكَةِ أُ وْلَائِكَ ا لأَحْزَا ب ُ
'In Kullun 'Illā Kadh dh aba A r-Rusula Faĥaqqa `Iqā b i all charged their Rasools liars, so just was my torment of annihilating them.[38.14] إِن ْ كُلٌّ إِلاَّ كَذَّبَ ا ل رُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَا ب ِ
Wa Mā Yan žuru Hā 'uulā ' 'Illā Şayĥatan Wāĥidatan Mā Lahā Min Fawā q in These people also await nothing but a single mighty Blast - the one which none may retard.[38.15] وَمَا يَن ظُرُ هَاؤُلاَء إِلاَّ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَا لَهَا مِن ْ فَوَا ق ٍ
Wa Qālū Rabbanā `Ajjil Lanā Qiţţanā Qab la Yawmi A l-Ĥisā b i They say: “Our Rabb, hasten our doom for us before the Day of Reckoning.”[38.16] وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّل ْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْ لَ يَوْمِ ا لْحِسَا ب ِ
A şbir `Alá Mā Yaqūlū na Wa A dh kur `Ab danā Dāwū da Dh ā A l-'Aydi 'Inn ahu 'Awwā b un O Prophet, have patience at what they say, and remember Our servant Dawُُd, the man of strength, who was frequent in turning to Allah for guidance.[38.17] ا صْبِرْ عَلَى مَا يَقُولُو نَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْ دَنَا دَاوُو دَ ذَا ا لأَيْدِ إِنَّ هُ~ ُ أَوَّا ب ٌ
'Inn ā Sakh kh arnā A l-Jibā la Ma`ahu Yusabbiĥna Bil-`Ash ī yi Wa A l-'Ish rā q i We made the mountains join him in Our praises at evening and the sunrise.[38.18] إِنَّ ا سَخَّرْنَا ا لْجِبَا لَ مَعَهُُيُسَبِّحْنَ بِا لْعَشِيِّ وَالإِشْرَا ق ِ
Wa A ţ -Ţayra Maĥsh ūratan Kullun Lahu 'Awwā b un And the birds, too, with all their flocks, join in singing with him.[38.19] وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً كُلّ ٌ لَهُ~ ُ أَوَّا ب ٌ
Wa Sh adad nā Mulkahu Wa 'Ā taynā hu A l-Ĥikmata Wa Faşla A l-Kh iţā b i We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.[38.20] وَشَدَد ْنَا مُلْكَهُُوَآتَيْنَا هُ ا لْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ ا لْخِطَا ب ِ
Wa Hal 'Atā ka Naba'u A l-Kh aşmi 'Idh Tasawwarū A l-Miĥrā b a Have you heard the story of the two litigants who made an entry into his private chamber through climbing over the wall?[38.21] وَهَلْ أَتَا كَ نَبَأُ ا لْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا ا لْمِحْرَا ب َ
'Idh Dakh alū `Alá Dāwū da Fafazi`a Minhum Qālū Lā Takh af Kh aşmā ni Bagh á Ba`đunā `Alá Ba`đin Fāĥkum Baynanā Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Lā Tush ţiţ Wa A hdinā 'Ilá Sawā 'i A ş-Şirā ţi When they entered in upon Dawُُd and he became terrified. They said: “Have no fear, we are two litigants, one of whom has wronged the other. Judge rightly between us and do not be unjust, and guide us to the Right Way.[38.22] إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَى دَاوُو دَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ قَالُ وا لاَ تَخَفْ خَصْمَا نِ بَغَى بَعْضُنَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ فَا حْكُم ْ بَيْنَنَا بِا لْحَقِّ وَلاَ تُشْطِط ْ وَاهْدِنَا إِلَى سَوَا ءِ ا ل صِّرَا ط ِ
'Inn a Hādh ā 'Akh ī Lahu Tis`un Wa Tis`ū na Na`jatan Wa Liya Na`jatun Wāĥidatun Faqā la 'Akfilnīhā Wa `Azzanī Fī A l-Kh iţā b i This man is my brother; he has ninety nine ewes while I have only one ewe. Yet he says: 'Turn her over to me' and he has the means to prevail against me in what he says.”[38.23] إِنّ َ هَذَا أَخِي لَهُُتِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُو نَ نَعْجَةً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَا لَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي ا لْخِطَا ب ِ
Qā la Laqad Žalamaka Bisu'uā li Na`jatika 'Ilá Ni`ājihi Wa 'Inn a Kath īrāan Mina A l-Kh ulaţā 'i Layab gh ī Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin 'Illā A l-Ladh ī na 'Ā manū Wa `Amilū A ş-Şāliĥā ti Wa Qalī lun Mā Hum Wa Žann a Dāwū du 'Ann amā Fatann ā hu Fāstagh fara Rabbahu Wa Kh arra Rāki`āan Wa 'Anā b a Dawُُd said: “He has certainly wronged you in seeking to add your ewe to his flock: in fact many partners are unjust to one another; except those who believe and do good deeds, and they are few indeed.” - While he said this, Dawُُd realized that We had tested him. (Dawُُd had shown desire to one of his officers to divorce his wife so that he could marry her even though he already hd 99 wives) So he sought forgiveness of his Rabb and fell down on his knees and turned to Allah in repentance.[38.24] قَا لَ لَقَد ْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَا لِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَى نِعَاجِهِِ وَإِنّ َ كَثِيراً مِنَ ا لْخُلَطَا ءِ لَيَبْ غِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ إِلاَّ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ا ل صَّالِحَا تِ وَقَلِي لٌ مَا هُمْ وَظَنّ َ دَاوُو دُ أَنَّ مَا فَتَنّ َا هُُفَا سْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُُوَخَرَّ رَاكِعاً وَأَنَا ب َ
Fagh afarnā Lahu Dh ālika Wa 'Inn a Lahu `In danā Lazulfá Wa Ĥusna Ma'ā b in So We forgave his error. He will enjoy a place of nearness with Us and an excellent abode![38.25] فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُُذَلِكَ وَإِنّ َ لَهُُعِنْ دَنَا لَزُلْفَى وَحُسْنَ مَآب ٍ
Yā Dāwū du 'Inn ā Ja`alnā ka Kh alīfatan Fī A l-'Arđi Fāĥkum Bayna A n -Nā si Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Lā Tattabi`i A l-Hawá Fayuđillaka `An Sabī li A l-Lahi 'Inn a A l-Ladh ī na Yađillū na `An Sabī li A l-Lahi Lahum `Adh ā bun Sh adī dun Bimā Nasū Yawma A l-Ĥisā b i We said: “O Dawُُd! We have made you a vicegerent in the earth, so rule among the people with justice and do not follow your own desires lest they mislead you from the Way of Allah. As for those who go astray from the Way of Allah, they shall surely have a severe punishment because of forgetting the Day of Reckoning.[38.26] يَادَاوُو دُ إِنَّ ا جَعَلْنَا كَ خَلِيفَةً فِي ا لأَرْضِ فَا حْكُم ْ بَيْنَ ا ل نّ َا سِ بِا لْحَقِّ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعِ ا لْهَوَى فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن ْ سَبِي لِ ا ل لَّهِ إِنّ َ ا لَّذِي نَ يَضِلُّو نَ عَن ْ سَبِي لِ ا ل لَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَا بٌ شَدِي دٌ بِمَا نَسُوا يَوْمَ ا لْحِسَا ب ِ
Wa Mā Kh alaq nā A s-Samā 'a Wa A l-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Bāţilāan Dh ālika Žann u A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Fawaylun Lilladh ī na Kafarū Mina A n -Nā r i We have not created the heaven and the earth and all that lies between them in vain. That is the fancy of the unbelievers. Such disbelievers should be aware of the hellfire.[38.27] وَمَا خَلَقْ نَا ا ل سَّمَا ءَ وَالأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلاً ذَلِكَ ظَنّ ُ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا فَوَيْل ٌ لِلَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ ا ل نّ َا ر ِ
'Am Naj `alu A l-Ladh ī na 'Ā manū Wa `Amilū A ş-Şāliĥā ti Kālmufsidī na Fī A l-'Arđi 'Am Naj `alu A l-Muttaqī na Kālfujjā r i Should We treat those who believe and do good deeds like those who create mischief in the earth? Should We treat the righteous like the sinners?[38.28] أَمْ نَجْ عَلُ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ا ل صَّالِحَا تِ كَا لْمُفْسِدِي نَ فِي ا لأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْ عَلُ ا لْمُتَّقِي نَ كَا لْفُجَّا ر ِ
Kitā bun 'An zalnā hu 'Ilayka Mubārakun Liyaddabbarū 'Ā yātihi Wa Liyatadh akkara 'Ū lū A l-'Albā b i This Book (Al-Qur’an) which We have sent down to you (O Muhammad) is highly blessed, so that they may ponder upon its verses and the men of understanding may learn a lesson from it.[38.29] كِتَا بٌ أَن زَلْنَا هُ~ ُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَك ٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُو ا آيَاتِهِِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُ وْلُوا ا لأَلْبَا ب ِ
Wa Wahab nā Lidāwū da Sulaymā na Ni`ma A l-`Ab du 'Inn ahu 'Awwā b un To Dawُُd We gave Sulaimمn (Solomon), an excellent devotee! Who was frequent in returning to Us.[38.30] وَوَهَبْ نَا لِدَاوُو دَ سُلَيْمَا نَ نِعْمَ ا لْعَبْ دُ إِنَّ هُ~ ُ أَوَّا ب ٌ
'Idh `Ur iđa `Alayhi Bil-`Ash ī yi A ş-Şāfinā tu A l-Jiyā d u Worthy of mention is the incident when, one evening, excellent-bred steeds to be used in Jihمd, were presented before him;[38.31] إِذْ عُر ِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِا لْعَشِيِّ ا ل صَّافِنَا تُ ا لْجِيَا د ُ
Faqā la 'Inn ī 'Aĥbab tu Ĥubba A l-Kh ayr i `An Dh ikr i Rabbī Ĥattá Tawārat Bil-Ĥijā b i and he said: “Surely I have adopted the love of these good things with a view to glorify my Rabb.” In testing race of the steeds, when they disappeared from sight,[38.32] فَقَا لَ إِنِّ ي أَحْبَبْ تُ حُبَّ ا لْخَيْر ِ عَن ْ ذِكْر ِ رَبِّي حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ بِا لْحِجَا ب ِ
Ruddūhā `Alayya Faţafiqa Masĥāan Bis-Sū qi Wa A l-'A`nā q i he commanded: “Bring them back to me.” Then he began to pass his hand over their legs and necks with affection.[38.33] رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحاً بِا ل سُّو قِ وَالأَعْنَا ق ِ
Wa Laqad Fatann ā Sulaymā na Wa 'Alqaynā `Alá Kursīyihi Jasadāan Th umm a 'Anā b a Behold, We also put Sulaimمn to test and placed a mere body on his throne, then he turned to Us in repentance,[38.34] وَلَقَد ْ فَتَنَّ ا سُلَيْمَا نَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَى كُرْسِيِّهِِ جَسَداً ثُمّ َ أَنَا ب َ
Qā la Rabbi A gh fir Lī Wa Hab Lī Mulkāan Lā Yan bagh ī Li'ĥadin Min Ba`dī 'Inn aka 'An ta A l-Wahhā b u and said “O my Rabb! Forgive me and grant me a kingdom similar to which may not be given to anyone after me. Surely You are the real Giver.”[38.35] قَا لَ رَبِّ ا غْفِرْ لِي وَهَب ْ لِي مُلْكاً لاَ يَنْ بَغِي لِأحَدٍ مِن ْ بَعْدِي إِنَّ كَ أَنْ تَ ا لْوَهَّا ب ُ
Fasakh kh arnā Lahu A r-R ī ĥa Taj r ī Bi'am r ihi Rukh ā 'an Ĥayth u 'Aşā b a We accepted his prayer and subjected the wind to his power, which blew gently in whichever direction he wanted;[38.36] فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ ا ل رِّي حَ تَجْ ر ِي بِأَمْر ِهِِ رُخَا ءً حَيْثُ أَصَا ب َ
Wa A sh -Sh ayāţī na Kulla Bann ā 'in Wa Gh awwāşin and the shaitمns (Jinns) including all kinds of builders, divers[38.37] وَالشَّيَاطِي نَ كُلَّ بَنّ َا ءٍ وَغَوَّا صٍ
Wa 'Ā kh ar ī na Muqarranī na Fī A l-'Aşfā d i and others fettered in chains.[38.38] وَآخَر ِي نَ مُقَرَّنِي نَ فِي ا لأَصْفَا د ِ
Hādh ā `Aţā 'uunā Fām nun 'Aw 'Am sik Bigh ayr i Ĥisā b in We said to him: “This is Our gift: you may give or withhold to whomever you want, without any accountability.”[38.39] هَذَا عَطَاؤُنَا فَا مْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْر ِ حِسَا ب ٍ
Wa 'Inn a Lahu `In danā Lazulfá Wa Ĥusna Ma'ā b in Surely he has a place of nearness to Us and will have an excellent place of final abode.[38.40] وَإِنّ َ لَهُُعِنْ دَنَا لَزُلْفَى وَحُسْنَ مَآب ٍ
Wa A dh kur `Ab danā 'Ayyū ba 'Idh Nādá Rabbahu 'Ann ī Massanī A sh -Sh ayţā nu Binuşbin Wa `Adh ā b in Mention Our devotee Ayüb (Job), when he called upon his Rabb saying: “Shaitمn has afflicted me with distress and suffering,"[38.41] وَاذْكُرْ عَبْ دَنَا أَيُّو بَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ~ ُ أَنِّ ي مَسَّنِي ا ل شَّيْطَا نُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَا ب ٍ
A rkuđ Bir ij lika Hādh ā Mugh tasalun Bār idun Wa Sh arā b un and We asked him: “Strike your foot on the ground. A cool spring will gush forth. Wash and drink to refresh yourself."[38.42] ا رْكُضْ بِر ِجْ لِكَ هَذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَار ِدٌ وَشَرَا ب ٌ
Wa Wahab nā Lahu 'Ahlahu Wa Mith lahum Ma`ahum Raĥmatan Minn ā Wa Dh ikrá Li'wlī A l-'Albā b i And We restored to him his family and many more with them as a grace from Ourselves and a reminder for the people of understanding.[38.43] وَوَهَبْ نَا لَهُ~ ُ أَهْلَهُُوَمِثْلَهُم ْ مَعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِنَّ ا وَذِكْرَى لِأوْلِي ا لأَلْبَا ب ِ
Wa Kh udh Biyadika Đigh th āan Fāđr ib Bihi Wa Lā Taĥnath 'Inn ā Wa Jad nā hu Şābirāan Ni`ma A l-`Ab du 'Inn ahu 'Awwā b un Then, to fulfill his oath of giving his wife one hundred strikes which he made during his sickness, We said: “Take a bunch of twigs and strike with it and do not break your oath.” Certainly We found him full of patience. He was an excellent devotee, who turned to Us over and over again.[38.44] وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثاً فَا ضْر ِب ْ بِهِِ وَلاَ تَحْنَثْ إِنَّ ا وَجَد ْنَا هُُصَابِراً نِعْمَ ا لْعَبْ دُ إِنَّ هُ~ ُ أَوَّا ب ٌ
Wa A dh kur `Ibādanā 'Ib rāhī ma Wa 'Isĥā qa Wa Ya`qū ba 'Ū lī A l-'Aydī Wa A l-'Ab şā r i And mention Our devotees Ibrمhïm (Abraham), Ishمq (Isaac) and Ya'qoob (Jacob): men of power and vision.[38.45] وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إبْ رَاهِي مَ وَإِسْحَا قَ وَيَعْقُو بَ أُ وْلِي ا لأَيْدِي وَالأَبْ صَا ر ِ
'Inn ā 'Akh laşnāhum Bikh ālişatin Dh ikrá A d-Dā r i Surely We chose them for their special quality of keeping in mind the abode of hereafter.[38.46] إِنَّ ا أَخْلَصْنَاهُم ْ بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى ا ل دَّا ر ِ
Wa 'Inn ahum `In danā Lamina A l-Muşţafayna A l-'Akh yā r i Certainly they are with Us; among the best chosen.[38.47] وَإِنَّ هُمْ عِنْ دَنَا لَمِنَ ا لْمُصْطَفَيْنَ ا لأَخْيَا ر ِ
Wa A dh kur 'Ismā`ī la Wa A l-Yasa`a Wa Dh ā A l-Kifli Wa Kullun Mina A l-'Akh yā r i Also mention Isma‘il, Al-Yas'م (Elisha) and Zul-Kifl; all of them were among the best.[38.48] وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِي لَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا ا لْكِفْلِ وَكُلٌّ مِنَ ا لأَخْيَا ر ِ
Hādh ā Dh ikrun Wa 'Inn a Lilmuttaqī na Laĥusna Ma'ā b in This Qur’an is but a reminder. Surely the righteous shall return to an excellent resort.[38.49] هَذَا ذِكْرٌ وَإِنّ َ لِلْمُتَّقِي نَ لَحُسْنَ مَآب ٍ
Jann ā ti `Ad nin Mufattaĥatan Lahumu A l-'Ab wā b u The Gardens of Eden, whose gates shall be wide open to receive them.[38.50] جَنّ َا تِ عَد ْنٍ مُفَتَّحَة ً لَهُمُ ا لأَبْ وَا ب ُ
Muttaki'ī na Fīhā Yad `ū na Fīhā Bifākihatin Kath īratin Wa Sh arā b in They shall recline there, calling for abundant fruit and delicious drinks;[38.51] مُتَّكِئِي نَ فِيهَا يَد ْعُو نَ فِيهَا بِفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَا ب ٍ
Wa `In dahum Qāşirā tu A ţ -Ţarfi 'Atrā b un and beside them there shall be bashful virgin companions of equal age.[38.52] وَعِنْ دَهُمْ قَاصِرَا تُ ا ل طَّرْفِ أَتْرَا ب ٌ
Hādh ā Mā Tū`adū na Liyawmi A l-Ĥisā b i These are the things which you are being promised on the Day of Reckoning;[38.53] هَذَا مَا تُوعَدُو نَ لِيَوْمِ ا لْحِسَا ب ِ
'Inn a Hādh ā Lar izqunā Mā Lahu Min Nafā d in this will be Our provision which will never finish.[38.54] إِنّ َ هَذَا لَر ِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُُمِن ْ نَفَا د ٍ
Hādh ā Wa 'Inn a Lilţţāgh ī na Lash arra Ma'ā b in Such will be the reward for the righteous. But for the rebellious there will be an evil resort[38.55] هَذَا وَإِنّ َ لِلطَّاغِي نَ لَشَرَّ مَآب ٍ
Jahann ama Yaşlawnahā Fabi'sa A l-Mihā d u - hell, that is! In which they will burn - the worst abode.[38.56] جَهَنَّ مَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ ا لْمِهَا د ُ
Hādh ā Falyadh ūqū hu Ĥamī mun Wa Gh assā q un Such will it be the reward for the wrongdoers. So they will taste scalding water, festering blood (pus)[38.57] هَذَا فَلْيَذُوقُو هُُحَمِي مٌ وَغَسَّا ق ٌ
Wa 'Ā kh aru Min Sh aklihi 'Azwā j un and other things of the same sort.[38.58] وَآخَرُ مِن ْ شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَا ج ٌ
Hādh ā Fawjun Muq taĥimun Ma`akum Lā Marĥabāan Bihim 'Inn ahum Şālū A n -Nā r i It will be said to the ringleaders: “Here are your troops being thrown headlong with you. They are not welcomed here; for they are going to burn in the hellfire.[38.59] هَذَا فَوْجٌ مُقْ تَحِمٌ مَعَكُمْ لاَ مَرْحَباً بِهِمْ إِنَّ هُمْ صَالُ وا ا ل نّ َا ر ِ
Qālū Bal 'An tum Lā Marĥabāan Bikum 'An tum Qaddam tumū hu Lanā Fabi'sa A l-Qarā ru The followers shall say to their misguided leaders: “But you! There is no welcome for you either! It was you who have brought us to this end. Such an evil abode."[38.60] قَالُوا بَلْ أَنْ تُمْ لاَ مَرْحَباً بِكُمْ أَنْ تُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُو هُُلَنَا فَبِئْسَ ا لْقَرَا رُ
Qālū Rabbanā Man Qaddama Lanā Hādh ā Fazid /hu `Adh ābāan Đi`fāan Fī A n -Nā r i Then they will pray: “Our Rabb, inflict on those who brought this fate upon us double punishment in the fire."[38.61] قَالُوا رَبَّنَا مَن ْ قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَذَا فَزِد ْهُ عَذَاباً ضِعْفاً فِي ا ل نّ َا ر ِ
Wa Qālū Mā Lanā Lā Nará R ijālāan Kunn ā Na`udduhum Mina A l-'Ash rār Then they will say to one another: “But why do we not see those whom we deemed wicked[38.62] وَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا لاَ نَرَى ر ِجَالاً كُنَّ ا نَعُدُّهُم ْ مِنَ ا لأَشْرَار
'Ā ttakh adh nāhum Sikh r īyāan 'Am Zāgh at `Anhumu A l-'Ab şā ru and whom we used to ridicule? Or has our eyesight failed to notice them?”[38.63] أَا تَّخَذْنَاهُمْ سِخْر ِيّاً أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ ا لأَبْ صَا رُ
'Inn a Dh ālika Laĥaqqun Takh āşumu 'Ahli A n -Nā r i Surely, this is the very truth: the people in the hellfire will argue just like that.[38.64] إِنّ َ ذَلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ ا ل نّ َا ر ِ
Qul 'Inn amā 'Anā Mun dh ir un Wa Mā Min 'Ilahin 'Illā A l-Lahu A l-Wāĥidu A l-Qahhā ru O Prophet, tell them: “My mission is only as a Warner; there is no divinity except Allah, the One, the Irresistible,[38.65] قُلْ إِنَّ مَا أَنَا مُن ذِرٌ وَمَا مِن ْ إِلَهٍ~ ٍ إِلاَّ ا ل لَّهُ ا لْوَاحِدُ ا لْقَهَّا رُ
Rabbu A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā A l-`Azī zu A l-Gh affā ru the Rabb of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, the Almighty, the Forgiver.”[38.66] رَبُّ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ا لْعَزِي زُ ا لْغَفَّا رُ
Qul Huwa Naba'un `Ažī mun Say: “This is a supreme message:[38.67] قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِي مٌ
'An tum `Anhu Mu`r iđū na yet you pay no heed to it.”[38.68] أَنْ تُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْر ِضُو نَ
Mā Kā na Liya Min `Ilmin Bil-Mala'i A l-'A`lá 'Idh Yakh taşimū na Also say: “I have no knowledge of that time when the exalted chiefs disputed among themselves.[38.69] مَا كَا نَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِا لْمَلَإِ ا لأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُو نَ
'In Yūĥá 'Ilayya 'Illā 'Ann amā 'Anā Nadh ī r un Mubī nun I am informed about all this through a revelation because I am assigned the mission of a plain Warner.”[38.70] إِن ْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلاَّ أَنَّ مَا أَنَا نَذِي رٌ مُبِي نٌ
'Idh Qā la Rabbuka Lilmalā 'ikati 'Inn ī Kh āliqun Bash arāan Min Ţī nin
Behold when your Rabb said to the angels: “I am about to create a man from
clay:[38.71] إِذْ قَا لَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّ ي خَالِقٌ بَشَراً مِن ْ طِي نٍ
Fa'idh ā Sawwaytuhu Wa Nafakh tu Fī hi Min Rūĥī Faqa`ū Lahu Sājidī na
then when I have fashioned him and breathed of My spirit into him, kneel
down and prostrate yourselves before him."[38.72] فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُُوَنَفَخْتُ فِي هِِ مِن ْ رُوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُُسَاجِدِي نَ
Fasajada A l-Malā 'ikatu Kulluhum 'Aj ma`ū na
Accordingly all the angels prostrated themselves,[38.73] فَسَجَدَ ا لْمَلاَئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْ مَعُو نَ
'Illā 'Ib lī sa A stakbara Wa Kā na Mina A l-Kāfir ī na
except Iblees; he acted arrogantly and became one of the
disbelievers.[38.74] إِلاَّ إِبْ لِي سَ ا سْتَكْبَرَ وَكَا نَ مِنَ ا لْكَافِر ِي نَ
Qā la Yā 'Ib lī su Mā Mana`aka 'An Tasjuda Limā Kh alaq tu Biyadayya 'Ā stakbarta 'Am Kun ta Mina A l-`Ālī na
Allah said: “O Iblees! What prevented you from prostrating yourself to the
one whom I have created with My own hands? Are you too arrogant, or do you
think that you are one of the exalted ones?”[38.75] قَا لَ يَاإِبْ لِي سُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن ْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْ تُ بِيَدَيَّ أَ اسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُن تَ مِنَ ا لْعَالِي نَ
Qā la 'Anā Kh ayrun Minhu Kh alaq tanī Min Nā r in Wa Kh alaq tahu Min Ţī nin
Iblees said: “I am better than him: You created me from fire and created him
from clay."[38.76] قَا لَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ خَلَقْ تَنِي مِن ْ نَا رٍ وَخَلَقْ تَهُُمِن ْ طِي نٍ
Qā la Fākh ruj Minhā Fa'inn aka Rajī mun
Allah said: “Get out of here: for you are accursed,[38.77] قَا لَ فَا خْرُج ْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّ كَ رَجِي مٌ
Wa 'Inn a `Alayka La`natī 'Ilá Yawmi A d-Dī ni
and My curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgment."[38.78] وَإِنّ َ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَى يَوْمِ ا ل دِّي نِ
Qā la Rabbi Fa'an žir nī 'Ilá Yawmi Yub `ath ū na
Iblees said: “O Rabb! Then give me respite till the Day of
Resurrection."[38.79] قَا لَ رَبِّ فَأَن ظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْ عَثُو نَ
Qā la Fa'inn aka Mina A l-Mun žar ī na
Allah said: “Well, you are given respite[38.80] قَا لَ فَإِنَّ كَ مِنَ ا لْمُن ظَر ِي نَ
'Ilá Yawmi A l-Waq ti A l-Ma`lū mi
till the Day of Appointed Time."[38.81] إِلَى يَوْمِ ا لْوَقْ تِ ا لْمَعْلُو مِ
Qā la Fabi`izzatika La'ugh wiyann ahum 'Aj ma`ī na
Iblees said: “I swear by Your Honor, I will mislead them all[38.82] قَا لَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّ هُمْ أَجْ مَعِي نَ
'Illā `Ibādaka Minhumu A l-Mukh laşī na
except your chosen sincere devotees among them.”[38.83] إِلاَّ عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ا لْمُخْلَصِي نَ
Qā la Fālĥaqqu Wa A l-Ĥaqqa 'Aqū lu (All?h) said: The Truth is, and the Truth I say, (Sad 38:84) قَا لَ فَا لْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُو لُ
La'am la'ann a Jahann ama Min ka Wa Mimm an Tabi`aka Minhum 'Aj ma`ī na
that I will fill hell with you and all of those who follow you among
them."[38.85] لَأَمْلَأَنّ َ جَهَنَّ مَ مِنْ كَ وَمِمَّ ن ْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْ مَعِي نَ
Qul Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Aj r in Wa Mā 'Anā Mina A l-Mutakallifī na
O Prophet, tell them: “I do not ask you any recompense for conveying this
Message, nor do I pretend to be what I am not.[38.86] قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْ رٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ ا لْمُتَكَلِّفِي نَ
'In Huwa 'Illā Dh ikrun Lil`ālamī na
This Qur'an is nothing but a Reminder to all the Worlds;[38.87] إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِي نَ
Wa Lata`lamunn a Naba'ahu Ba`da Ĥī nin
and before long, you will certainly know its truth."[38.88] وَلَتَعْلَمُنّ َ نَبَأَهُُبَعْدَ حِي نٍ
