| Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa | 096.001 Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- | اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ |
| Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin | 096.002 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: | خَلَقَ الإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَق ٍ |
| Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu | 096.003 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- | اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكْرَمُ |
| Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami | 096.004 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- | الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ |
| `Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam | 096.005 Taught man that which he knew not. | عَلَّمَ الإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ |
| Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá | 096.006 Day, but man doth transgress all bounds, | كَلاَّ إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَى |
| 'An Ra'āhu Astaghná | 096.007 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. | أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى |
| 'Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á | 096.008 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). | إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى |
| 'Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá | 096.009 Seest thou one who forbids- | أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى |
| `Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá | 096.010 A votary when he (turns) to pray? | عَبْدا ً إِذَا صَلَّى |
| 'Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá | 096.011 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- | أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى |
| 'Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá | 096.012 Or enjoins Righteousness? | أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى |
| 'Ara'ayta 'In Kadhdhaba Wa Tawallá | 096.013 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? | أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى |
| 'Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Al-Laha Yará | 096.014 Knoweth he not that God doth see? | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى |
| Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`ā Bin-Nāşiyahi | 096.015 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- | كَلاَّ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَه ِِ لَنَسْفَعَا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ |
| Nāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'ahin | 096.016 A lying, sinful forelock! | نَاصِيَة ٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَة ٍ |
| Falyad`u Nādiyah | 096.017 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): | فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَه |
| Sanad`u Az-Zabāniyaha | 096.018 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! | سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ |
| Kallā Lā Tuţi`hu Wa Asjud Wāqtarib | 096.019 Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to God)! | كَلاَّ لاَ تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ |
