Lā 'Uqsimu Bihadhā Al-Baladi (Al-Balad: 1).

090.001 I do call to witness this City;-
|
لاَ أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ |
| Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadhā Al-Baladi (Al-Balad: 2).
|
090.002 And thou art a freeman of this City;-
|
وَأَنْتَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ |
| Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada (Al-Balad: 3).
|
090.003 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;-
|
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ |
| Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Fī Kabadin (Al-Balad: 4).
|
090.004 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle.
|
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ |
| 'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun (Al-Balad: 5).
|
090.005 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him?
|
أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ |
| Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan (Al-Balad: 6).
|
090.006 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance!
|
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالاً لُبَداً |
| 'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun (Al-Balad: 7).
|
090.007 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him?
|
أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ |
| 'Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni (Al-Balad: 8).
|
090.008 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?-
|
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُ عَيْنَيْنِ |
| Wa Lisānāan Wa Shafatayni (Al-Balad: 9).
|
090.009 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?-
|
وَلِسَاناً وَشَفَتَيْنِ |
| Wa Hadaynāhu An-Najdayni (Al-Balad: 10).
|
090.010 And shown him the two highways?
|
وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ |
| Falā Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha (Al-Balad: 11).
|
090.011 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep.
|
فَلاَ اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ |
| Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Al-`Aqabahu (Al-Balad: 12).
|
090.012 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?-
|
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ |
| Fakku Raqabahin (Al-Balad: 13).
|
090.013 (It is:) freeing the bondman;
|
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ |
| 'Aw 'Iţ`āmun Fī Yawmin Dhī Masghabahin (Al-Balad: 14).
|
090.014 Or the giving of food in a day of privation
|
أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ |
| Yatīmāan Dhā Maqrabahin (Al-Balad: 15).
|
090.015 To the orphan with claims of relationship,
|
يَتِيماً ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ |
| 'Aw Miskīnāan Dhā Matrabahin (Al-Balad: 16).
|
090.016 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust.
|
أَوْ مِسْكِيناً ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ |
| Thumma Kāna Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Tawāşawā Biş-Şabri Wa Tawāşawā Bil-Marĥamahi (Al-Balad: 17).
|
090.017 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion.
|
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ |
| 'Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanati (Al-Balad: 18).
|
090.018 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand.
|
أُوْلَائِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ |
| Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi (Al-Balad: 19).
|
090.019 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand.
|
وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ |
| `Alayhim Nārun Mu'uşadahun (Al-Balad: 20).
|
090.020 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round).
|
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤصَدَةٌ |
