Nūn ۚ Wa Al-Qalami Wa Mā Yasţurūna (Al-Qalam: 1).

Noon. By the pen, and by what they inscribe.

نُون ۚ وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ |
| Mā 'Anta Bini`mati Rabbika Bimajnūnin (Al-Qalam: 2).
|
By the grace of your Lord, you are not insane.
068002 |
مَا أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ |
| Wa 'Inna Laka La'ajrāan Ghayra Mamnūnin (Al-Qalam: 3).
|
In fact, you will have a reward that will never end.
068003 |
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْراً غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ |
| Wa 'Innaka La`alá Khuluqin `Ažīmin (Al-Qalam: 4).
|
And you are of a great moral character.
068004 |
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ |
| Fasatubşiru Wa Yubşirūna (Al-Qalam: 5).
|
You will see, and they will see.
068005 |
فَسَتُبْصِرُوَيُبْصِرُونَ |
| Bi'ayyyikumu Al-Maftūnu (Al-Qalam: 6).
|
Which of you is the afflicted.
068006 |
بِأَيّيِكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ |
| 'Inna Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bil-Muhtadīna (Al-Qalam: 7).
|
Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His path, and He knows best the well-guided.
068007 |
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ |
| Falā Tuţi`i Al-Mukadhdhibīna (Al-Qalam: 8).
|
So do not obey the deniers.
068008 |
فَلاَ تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| Waddū Law Tud/hinu Fayud/hinūna (Al-Qalam: 9).
|
They would like you to compromise, so they would compromise.
068009 |
وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ |
| Wa Lā Tuţi` Kulla Ĥallāfin Mahīnin (Al-Qalam: 10).
|
And do not obey any vile swearer.
068010 |
وَلاَ تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلاَّفٍ مَهِينٍ |
| Hammāzin Mashshā'in Binamīmin (Al-Qalam: 11).
|
Backbiter, spreader of slander.
068011 |
هَمَّازٍ مَشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ |
| Mannā`in Lilkhayri Mu`tadin 'Athīmin (Al-Qalam: 12).
|
Preventer of good, transgressor, sinner.
068012 |
مَنَّاعٍ لِلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ |
| `Utullin Ba`da Dhālika Zanīmin (Al-Qalam: 13).
|
Rude and fake besides.
068013 |
عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِيمٍ |
| 'An Kāna Dhā Mālin Wa Banīna (Al-Qalam: 14).
|
Just because he has money and children.
068014 |
أَنْ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ |
| 'Idhā Tutlá `Alayhi 'Āyātunā Qāla 'Asāţīru Al-'Awwalīna (Al-Qalam: 15).
|
When Our Verses are recited to him, he says, "Myths of the ancients!"
068015 |
إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُالأَوَّلِينَ |
| Sanasimuhu `Alá Al-Khurţūmi (Al-Qalam: 16).
|
We will brand him on the muzzle.
068016 |
سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ |
| 'Innā Balawnāhum Kamā Balawnā 'Aşĥāba Al-Jannati 'Idh 'Aqsamū Layaşrimunnahā Muşbiĥīna (Al-Qalam: 17).
|
We tested them, as We tested the owners of the garden, when they vowed to harvest it in the morning.
068017 |
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ |
| Wa Lā Yastathnūna (Al-Qalam: 18).
|
Without any reservation.
068018 |
وَلاَ يَسْتَثْنُونَ |
| Faţāfa `Alayhā Ţā'ifun Min Rabbika Wa Hum Nā'imūna (Al-Qalam: 19).
|
But a calamity from your Lord went around it while they slept.
068019 |
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ |
| Fa'aşbaĥat Kālşşarīmi (Al-Qalam: 20).
|
And in the morning it was as if picked.
068020 |
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ |
| Fatanādaw Muşbiĥīna (Al-Qalam: 21).
|
In the morning, they called to one another.
068021 |
فَتَنَادَوا مُصْبِحِينَ |
| 'Ani Aghdū `Alá Ĥarthikum 'In Kuntum Şārimīna (Al-Qalam: 22).
|
"Go early to your plantation, if you are going to harvest."
068022 |
أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَى حَرْثِكُمْ إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَارِمِينَ |
| Fānţalaqū Wa Hum Yatakhāfatūna (Al-Qalam: 23).
|
So off they went, murmuring to one another.
068023 |
فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ |
| 'An Lā Yadkhulannahā Al-Yawma `Alaykum Miskīnun (Al-Qalam: 24).
|
"No poor person is to enter it upon you today."
068024 |
أَنْ لاَ يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِينٌ |
| Waghadawā `Alá Ĥardin Qādirīna (Al-Qalam: 25).
|
And early they went, resolved in intent.
068025 |
وَغَدَوْا عَلَى حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ |
| Falammā Ra'awhā Qālū 'Innā Lađāllūna (Al-Qalam: 26).
|
But when they saw it, they said, "We were wrong.
068026 |
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ |
| Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna (Al-Qalam: 27).
|
We are now deprived."
068027 |
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ |
| Qāla 'Awsaţuhum 'Alam 'Aqul Lakum Lawlā Tusabbiĥūna (Al-Qalam: 28).
|
The most reasonable of them said, "Did I not say to you, "کif only you would glorify?'"
068028 |
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ لَوْلاَ تُسَبِّحُونَ |
| Qālū Subĥāna Rabbinā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna (Al-Qalam: 29).
|
They said, "Glory to our Lord"”We were indeed in the wrong."
068029 |
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ |
| Fa'aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatalāwamūna (Al-Qalam: 30).
|
Then they turned to one another, blaming one another.
068030 |
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَلاَوَمُونَ |
| Qālū Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Ţāghīna (Al-Qalam: 31).
|
They said, "Woe to us"”we were indeed domineering.
068031 |
قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ |
| `Asá Rabbunā 'An Yubdilanā Khayrāan Minhā 'Innā 'Ilá Rabbinā Rāghibūna (Al-Qalam: 32).
|
Perhaps our Lord will give us a better substitute for it. We are turning to our Lord."
068032 |
عَسَى رَبُّنَا أَنْ يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْراً مِنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ |
| Kadhālika Al-`Adhābu ۖ Wa La`adhābu Al-'Ākhirati 'Akbaru ۚ Law Kānū Ya`lamūna (Al-Qalam: 33).
|
Such is the punishment; but the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.
068033 |
كَذَلِكَ الْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ |
| 'Inna Lilmuttaqīna `Inda Rabbihim Jannāti An-Na`īmi (Al-Qalam: 34).
|
For the righteous are Gardens of Delight with their Lord.
068034 |
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ |
| 'Afanaj`alu Al-Muslimīna Kālmujrimīna (Al-Qalam: 35).
|
Shall We treat the Muslims like the villains?
068035 |
أَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالْمُجْرِمِينَ |
| Mā Lakum Kayfa Taĥkumūna (Al-Qalam: 36).
|
What is the matter with you? How do you judge?
068036 |
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ |
| 'Am Lakum Kitābun Fīhi Tadrusūna (Al-Qalam: 37).
|
Or do you have a scripture in which you study.
068037 |
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ |
| 'Inna Lakum Fīhi Lamā Takhayyarūna (Al-Qalam: 38).
|
Wherein there is whatever you choose?
068038 |
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ |
| 'Am Lakum 'Aymānun `Alaynā Bālighatun 'Ilá Yawmi Al-Qiyāmati ۙ 'Inna Lakum Lamā Taĥkumūna (Al-Qalam: 39).
|
Or do you have oaths from Us, binding until the Day of Resurrection, that you will have whatever you demand?
068039 |
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَانٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَةٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ |
| Salhum 'Ayyuhum Bidhālika Za`īmun (Al-Qalam: 40).
|
Ask them, which of them will guarantee that.
068040 |
سَلْهُم أَيُّهُمْ بِذَلِكَ زَعِيمٌ |
| 'Am Lahum Shurakā'u Falya'tū Bishurakā'ihim 'In Kānū Şādiqīna (Al-Qalam: 41).
|
Or do they have partners? Then let them produce their partners, if they are truthful.
068041 |
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ |
| Yawma Yukshafu `An Sāqin Wa Yud`awna 'Ilá As-Sujūdi Falā Yastaţī`ūna (Al-Qalam: 42).
|
On the Day when the Shin will be exposed, and they will be called to bow down, but they will be unable.
068042 |
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ |
| Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun ۖ Wa Qad Kānū Yud`awna 'Ilá As-Sujūdi Wa Hum Sālimūna (Al-Qalam: 43).
|
Their eyes subdued, shame will cover them. They were invited to bow down when they were sound.
068043 |
خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ |
| Fadharnī Wa Man Yukadhdhibu Bihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi ۖ Sanastadrijuhum Min Ĥaythu Lā Ya`lamūna (Al-Qalam: 44).
|
So leave Me to those who reject this discourse; We will proceed against them gradually, from where they do not know.
068044 |
فَذَرْنِي وَمَنْ يُكَذِّبُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ |
| Wa 'Umlī Lahum ۚ 'Inna Kaydī Matīnun (Al-Qalam: 45).
|
And I will give them respite. My plan is firm.
068045 |
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ |
| 'Am Tas'aluhum 'Ajrāan Fahum Min Maghramin Muthqalūna (Al-Qalam: 46).
|
Or do you ask them for a fee, so they are burdened with debt?
068046 |
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْراً فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَمٍ مُثْقَلُونَ |
| 'Am `Indahumu Al-Ghaybu Fahum Yaktubūna (Al-Qalam: 47).
|
Or do they know the future, and so they write it down?
068047 |
أَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ |
| Fāşbir Liĥukmi Rabbika Wa Lā Takun Kaşāĥibi Al-Ĥūti 'Idh Nādá Wa Huwa Makžūmun (Al-Qalam: 48).
|
So wait patiently for the Decision of your Lord, and do not be like the Fellow of the Fish who cried out in despair.
068048 |
فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلاَ تَكُنْ كَصَاحِبِ الْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَى وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ |
| Lawlā 'An Tadārakahu Ni`matun Min Rabbihi Lanubidha Bil-`Arā'i Wa Huwa Madhmūmun (Al-Qalam: 49).
|
Were it not for his Lord's favor that reached him, he would have been thrown into the wilderness, fully despised.
068049 |
لَوْلاَ أَنْ تَدَارَكَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ |
| Fājtabāhu Rabbuhu Faja`alahu Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna (Al-Qalam: 50).
|
But his Lord chose him, and made him one of the righteous.
068050 |
فَاجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَجَعَلَهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ |
| Wa 'In Yakādu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Layuzliqūnaka Bi'abşārihim Lammā Sami`ū Adh-Dhikra Wa Yaqūlūna 'Innahu Lamajnūnun (Al-Qalam: 51).
|
Those who disbelieve almost stab you with their glances when they hear the message, and say, "He is crazy!"
068051 |
وَإِنْ يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُ لَمَجْنُونٌ |
| Wa Mā Huwa 'Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna (Al-Qalam: 52).
|
But it is no less than a reminder to all the Worlds.

وَمَا هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ |
